Thanks for uploading File:Pyrilla protuberans.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Sorry for taking so much time. I found it here, and am not sure about the copyright status. If the copyright is an issue then please delete it.

This is a recent, copyrighted article without no sign of a free license. Sadly I don't see many chances here. Felix QW (talk) 20:29, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If so, pls delete it. Uploader1234567890 (talk) 02:19, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I took screenshots like the screenshots shown on pages like tosena melanoptera and closely related species within that genus. I do not know the licence. If you wish I could give you the links to both this the pyrilla protuberans one, and if the licence is not acceptable then pls remove them.
Note: It was not Pyrops famous but instead fumosus, and the autocorrect made it “famous”.
Pls delete pyrops fumosus original description.png and rename Pyrops famous.png as Pyrops fumosus.png in case the licence is acceptable. I will give the links Uploader1234567890 (talk) 05:19, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

pls delete if copyright status is not acceptable. Uploader1234567890 (talk) 08:14, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The protologue is part of an article by en:Charles Fuller Baker (died 1927) published in the Philippines in 1925 (while the photographs are by somebody else, their copyright lapsed 50 years after publication). So clearly public domain in both the US and the Philippines. If you upload the file again and let me know, I would be happy to take care of the licensing for you. These are all from works of authors who died more than at least 70 to 100 years ago. The links to where I found them:
https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/page/595184#page/158/mode/1up Tabs 5, which the link goes to and tab 6

I added the requisite information to those files, so they should be safe from deletion now. In future, do try to add the appropriate public domain rationale straight at upload to avoid such a situation. And one extra note - the author of illustrations is often not the author of the article, but is seperately credited on the illustration plate. You can always ask me if anything is unclear! Felix QW (talk) 20:26, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. How can I know whether a file is protected by copyright? Uploader1234567890 (talk) 02:23, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Abzeronow gave you the gist of it here; Is there anything in particular that isn't clear to you? Felix QW (talk) 09:04, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Then why are the screenshots from baker (American author) 1925 (before 1929) deleted? Uploader1234567890 (talk) 14:47, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Simply because they did not have the right tag stating that they are public domain and for what reason. If you reupload them, I'd be happy to sort that out for you and then they won't get deleted! Felix QW (talk) 14:49, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I will do so in a minute if you say it is ok to do so Uploader1234567890 (talk) 14:52, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please do, and just drop me a note when you've done so. Felix QW (talk) 14:55, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your quick responses. I will tell you about it. Uploader1234567890 (talk) 14:56, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done! The key things to add were the license tags at the bottom, in this case {{PD-US-expired}} and {{PD-Philippines}}. Felix QW (talk) 15:21, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot! Uploader1234567890 (talk) 15:23, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Always happy to help! I am currently working on illustrating plant genera without pictures on the English Wikipedia, so I am very happy to see someone doing such work for entomology articles! Felix QW (talk) 15:27, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot. Anyways, despite being skilled in Fulgoridae, I am yet only some more than 11 years old in age. Uploader1234567890 (talk) 16:00, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
