User talk:Shaqspeare
Thank you for providing images to the commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on the commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly.
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a Copyright tag - images without a appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate Categories, so it can be found by others.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki.
It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more Information, have a look at Commons:Licensing, Commons:criteria for inclusion and the Community Portal. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the village pump. Thank you. -- Joolz 20:14, 25 May 2005 (UTC)
Deutsch
[edit]Hi, there are a few resources for German and polish speakers - Commons:Lizenzvorlagen for the copyright instructions in German; Commons:Bar for the Polish village pump (discussion/help page), Commons:Forum for the German village pump. If you're using the image on wikipedia there's no requirement to put the licence information under the image on the article page, the licence information on the image description page is enough (unless the license tells you otherwise) - I hope I've been of some help -- Joolz 16:59, 26 May 2005 (UTC)
Postmoderne Architektur
Re: Image:860-880 Lake Shore Drive.jpg
[edit]Hi! You appear to be confusing copyright and licences. I have licenced the above image to wikimedia under the cc-by-sa licence. I am in a position to grant such a licence because I am the copyright holder for that image. One of the terms of this licence is that the copyright holder be attributed--hence my adding "© Jeremy Atherton, 2006" to the description. JeremyA 23:19, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. Yes I do live in Chicago. JeremyA 16:12, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
I went out to IIT in March and took this photo of the Koolhaas McCormick Tribune Campus Center. At that time it was still winter and the campus looked very bare and the light was cold and harsh so I decided to wait to take pictures of the Mies buildings. I am out of town the next couple of weekends, but I will try to go back soon and take some more photographs. JeremyA 18:39, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
Crown Hall
[edit]Hi! I took a trip to IIT today. Due to the layout of the area it is really difficult to get good photographs of Crown Hall, especially as there is some construction nearby meaning that they have blocked off the place that I wanted to stand. Anyway, I have uploaded Image:Crown Hall 060514.jpg and Image:Crown Hall Entrance 060514.jpg--see what you think.
I will probably go back in a few months to see if I can get a better angle one the construction is complete. JeremyA 00:22, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
- A symmetrical photo of Crown Hall may be impossible due to trees and the proximity of nearby buildings. There is a spot that I think will give a better view but it was temporarily fenced off. Rather than going to look for other stuff on campus I tried to get a better picture of the Rem Koolhaas builing, but I couldn't get anything that I was happy with. When I go back I will look for the chapel and boiler house. There is a picture of the IBM building on the English wikipedia here. I have some pictures of it too, but none significantly better than that one--they are building the Trump Tower next to it at the moment, so most of my pictures have cranes in them (as you can see on the pictures that I added to the Trump Tower page). JeremyA 00:38, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
- There is also the Kluczynski Federal Building, which I will try to photograph soon. JeremyA 01:13, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Nominating images for deletion
[edit]Hi Shaqspeare, just a quick note. Please don't nominate images for deletion unless they can't be handled by nominating them for speedy deletion (obvious copyvios, screenshots, album covers), or marking as no source/no license (these can be speedy deleted after 7 days). COM:DEL is extremely long and very slow and if we can just keep essential images that REQUIRE debate there, then it will be a tiny bit better.
You can install some "quick links" to nominate images for no source/no license/deletion: see MediaWiki talk:Quick-delete.js, try it out and see if it works.

Commons-l subscription
[edit]Hello Shaqspeare,
as per Commons talk:Administrators, I am asking all admins to subscribe to commons-l, a mailing list for Wikimedia Commons policy and project discussion. Since many admins are only on Commons infrequently, this is a good way to alert people about important happenings. The mailing list is nominally multilingual, but predominantly English.
If you are already subscribed to commons-l, I apologize for bothering you, and you are free to ignore this message. If you don't want to use your regular e-mail account, feel free to leave me a message, and I can send you a GMail invite. Traffic on the mailing list is relatively low, and we do not expect admins to read all messages to the list, but it would be nice if you could check on it at least every few weeks. Thanks for your time,--Eloquence 23:11, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
Deletion
[edit]If you delete a picture,...
- please check it's history
- please check it's talk page
- please delete it's talk page.
I undeleted Image:Anja Juliette Laval.jpg and Image:Anja Juliette Laval 2.jpg again. --Avatar 19:50, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Admin news
[edit]Hello,
If you consent for statistics to be published about your actions as an administrator, please sign here: Commons:Administrator permission for statistics. (I expect that most people will not have a problem with it unless you are especially concerned with privacy.)
Also, please be aware that we now have a Commons:Administrators' noticeboard. Please put it on your watchlist, if you haven't already!
cheers, pfctdayelise (translate?) 05:33, 7 September 2006 (UTC) P.S.: Pardon if this is a repeat (bot debugging...)
Administrative notice
[edit]Hi. This message is sent out to you because you are an administrator on Commons, and you made little use (or no use) of the admin tools lately: less than 5 times in the last five months.
Commons has a new policy on admin activity, Commons:Administrators/De-adminship, taken into use on June 13, 2007 (after a poll among users). According to that policy, admins who use their tools infrequently will be asked whether they still need their adminship, and if they do not respond or require them the removal of the tools will be requested.
If you feel you still need your admin tools, please sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section within 30 days from the date this message was sent out. However, if you then don't make 5 admin actions in the following 5 months, you will lose the adminship without any notice.
This is not a comment on the considerable help you have given to the project in the past but reflects the wish of the community to see active administrators and to ensure that possible security breaches are minimized.
Image Tagging Image:Fm_CoA.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Fm_CoA.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Prośba
[edit]Witam serdecznie.

Modern movement has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |
