User talk:Sebastian80~commonswiki
Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 17:10, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

Licensing
|
Please, there is again something wrong with this file:
- ok The file is taken from http://creationwiki.org/File:Naja_Nigricollis.jpg, thats correct. Sethmichels435 uploaded it there.
- not ok: License: The file is not published under a free license at that wiki, thats simply not true. You say it is published under a "All rights waived" Cc-zero license, thats not confirmed by the source. Sethmichaels435 not waived any rights
- not ok: Author: Sethmichaels in fact cant waive any rights because he not has any rights on the file. He uploaded it to creationwiki, but that not makes Sethmichels435 the author (as you now say here)
- not ok: checking for copyright holder and original source: In fact Sethmichaels not claims any copyright or authorship over the image, he clearly indicates that he just copied the file from Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Naja_Nigricollis.jpg. That file was deleted from Wikipedia due to lack of licensing.
Via a different source you reimport deleted content to the project with false attribution and a claim of free licensing. Please work more carefully. I not love to delete your uploads, but damn, I must delete it and thats what I will do now. All legal information is wrong, its unlicensed and in violation of our policies. --Martin H. Thanks for uploading File:Equatrorial-spitting-cobra 001.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |

File:D.polylepis strike.JPG has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Chinese cobra was not copyright violation
[edit]Martin, I don't know why this file: Cobra_with_tongue_from_rob_ferguson_Naja_atra_(Chinese_cobra).jpg was deleted. It was uploaded by the person who took the actual photo. It's his own work. His name is Rob Ferguson and you can contact him here. I asked him for permission and he made his own account and uploaded the photo himself. Bastian (talk) 16:04, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Sebastian80. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Sebastian80~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
Community Liaison, Wikimedia Foundation
