This is a faithful photographic reproduction of a two-dimensional, public domain work of art. The work of art itself is in the public domain for the following reason:
The official position taken by the Wikimedia Foundation is that "faithful reproductions of two-dimensional public domain works of art are public domain".
This photographic reproduction is therefore also considered to be in the public domain in the United States. In other jurisdictions, re-use of this content may be restricted; see Reuse of PD-Art photographs for details. |

Charles VI of France
[edit]Hi Sailko, this is a small question regarding your imports of the Dialogues de Pierre Salmon (it was in 2009). These files are of exceptional importance because they are the very rare representations of King Charles VI of France during his lifetime. In addition, your cropping is used later in a considerable number of books and documentaries dedicated to this sovereign. To be able to upload these drawings, you had probably had access to the works located in the Bibliothèque de Genève and the Bibliothèque nationale de France. Knowing that the cropped version has a dimension of 848 × 1048 pixels, is it possible that the day you go back to these establishments (if you have the possibility), you can download a more complete version (this for example) with a much better resolution? If this materializes, it would be a great advance on the iconography of one of our most controversial kings (because I'm myself French, and it shows on my mediocre level in English). In any case, good continuation and I really like your work here and on the Wikipedia in Italian. --Ellicrum {bablute [...]} 23:28, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
- Hi User:Ellicrum! Thanks for your nice words. I just uploaded the image scanning from my text book, and I have no better image to upload. Good continuation to you too!! --Sailko (talk) 14:10, 9 February 2019 (UTC)
Articolo
-- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 16:39, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
- Pure qui, guarda: la categoria è Museo civico archeologico (Bologna), ma poi le sottocategorie sono Collections of the Archeological Museum of Bologna (che per carità è giusto, in questo caso il the ci vuole, ma è incoerente con la categoria madre, o è tutto Museo civico archeologico o è tutto Archeological (a parte che è Archaeological :-) ) Museum of Bologna :-) -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 16:45, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
Palazzo Piccolomini Bellanti in Pian e de' Mantellini, Siena
[edit]Buona sera.

--Antonella (talk) 14:57, 17 February 2019 (UTC)
Puoi darmi una mano, per favore? Grazie in ogni caso. --Antonella (talk) 22:50, 17 February 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, I saw one of your photos of a bust of Democritus File:Filosofo detto democrito, da villa dei papiri, peristilio quadrato.JPG. Because it was to dark, I made a new image changing the lighting on Photoshop. But when I was uploading it, I chose the original by mistake and now I can't change it. It was't my intention doing that, I'm really sorry. --Alvaro Marques Hijazo (talk) 00:42, 19 February 2019 (UTC)

Medals and coins
[edit]Hi ! Sorry for my mistake. The category tree of Commons is not good, with lot of categories with medals listed as subcategories from coins, such as Category:Medals by century or Category:Ancient Roman medals.
Mi rimetto a te. Nemo 16:34, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

Interior of Chiesa dei Gesuiti (Venice) - left nave - The Martyrdom of St Lawrence - Titian.jpg vs Tiziano, martirio di san lorenzo, 1588, 03.jpg
[edit]Replacing a file labeled with a more unsafe file with false colors may be considered vandal. I hope we will not get angry for that. If you want you can come in VI to support your point of view. Regards --Archaeodontosaurus (talk) 17:40, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
- User:Archaeodontosaurus I love your files, but this one has really a bad coulour rendering, and it is burned in the lower part. Mine is less reatuched, and the colour more realistic. There is just too much blue in your file, and you can easily cheack that from the other professional images of the painting in the category (WGA and Yorck). Titian in that part of his life used warm colours, that doesn't match with your file. I do not understand when you say "unsafe file". I just thought my file was better, once in a while, I think you should not be so impulsive to immediately revert everything. This can also be considered vandalism. You should have discussed first and maybe ask for somebody else's neutral opinion before. --Sailko (talk) 18:06, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
- About the Valued images: you uploaded about 7000 nice images, and you found the time to make galleries all around and request Quality status for each of them. I uploaded 230000, and I barely have the time to retouch and upload them, but this does not mean all my images are worse than yours, just because I decided to use my time to do something else than proposing each of them. If I propose 10 per day I would probably finish in more than 60 years. So please do not use your "VI status" like a licence to overcome any other new image. --Sailko (talk) 18:24, 3 April 2019 (UTC)
- Hi, We have the same ideal with some differences on how to apprehend it, we are not enemies at all. You asked me one day how we could progress, I am convinced that we must do less, but better. If I propose to come in VI is because it is a discipline that imposes a control with a vote of the community. It's time that is not lost.

--Ruthven (msg) 13:13, 7 April 2019 (UTC)

Caricamento foto in Commons
Grazie. --Teseo (✉) 07:21, 26 May 2019 (UTC)
Ciao --Sailko (talk) 18:43, 26 May 2019 (UTC)

File:Jan hendrick weissembruch, bassa marea a zeeland, scheveningen, 1900 ca.jpg and recent photos
[edit]Dear Sailko,
Thank you for your photographs! I notice that you put only your own name in the Author field, not the artist (which you put in the file name, without capitals I think). * Could you please for the sake of the database and lookup ease mention the artist in the author field? (For instance using the {{Creator:..}} template? A photographer of an existing work of art is not a creator, if the representation has no original properties.) Thank you, greetings from the Netherlands, Hansmuller (talk) 11:05, 2 June 2019 (UTC)
- User:Hansmuller hello. I am sorry, I upload thousands of images and if the upload wizards deosn't allow me to do that directly, I cannot make it manual for each image. This is a problem I already know, that many users noticed, and that nobody seems able to fix. It would be enough if the Wizard would fill the field "Photographer" instead of "Author" for self-published works. I tried to request some modifcation in phabricator, but it was just a frustrating experience, so I am not going to make any other request there, sorry. If you want to try you have all my support. I neverthless think that it's quite obvious from the category and the filename that I'm not a painter or a sculptor, I am just the photographer. Cheers. --Sailko (talk) 11:12, 2 June 2019 (UTC)
- Dear Sailko, thanks for your answer. I use the elegant Pattypan (or formerly GlamWikiToolset) and uploaded some 280.000 images where i could differentiate between for example artist and photographer (as in the fields in Template Artwork that you used for Jan Hendrik Weissenbruch, for instance) and more. (When we nevertheless use UploadWizard, we can still easily indicate explicitly description, artist (in Author) and photographer (in Source, say {{own}}).) By the way, titles in Italian will not be understood by many readers. Please give it a try as you are a prolific user, thanks, Hansmuller (talk) 11:36, 2 June 2019 (UTC)
- User:Hansmuller, I already tried Pattypan and it is not good for me. It is a lot of extra copy and paste, and it is not versatile enough when I upload at the same time cityscapes, architecture or artworks. But most important I mostly upload from my job, and here I cannot download, I can only use online resources. Writing filenames already takes me hours and hours (plus many hours to shot, many many many many hours to manually retouch each image and finally upload), I think I do enough. Maybe one day upload wizard will be smart enought to understand automatically all the infos I already provide. I see there are many users who improve my files with templates and extra categories, I appreciate but it's not the job I like to do. About the Italian language, as I arrived to Commons the only available art photos were from the Yorck Project, with captation in German only. So If Commons accepted that, I thought they should also accept my Italian filenames, and that's it. As I can see from the stats there is no other people in the world, besides me, who uploaded more that 200k self-made and self-retouched images here, and whenever I asked for some help, making the Wizard more efficient and useful for what I do, nobody ever cared, and it was very frustrating as I had to discuss with people who maybe uploaded 200 files in their life. So I'm sorry but I am not going to do more because of faults in the uploading system. I just had some extra time I'd rather make better use of the images into the Wikimedia projects, and possibly get more valued/quality image status. --Sailko (talk) 11:51, 2 June 2019 (UTC)

Hello Sailko, are you sure that "your" paintings are from Giovan? - They are "2 Giovan(ni) Battista Paggi": 1. un pittore manierista italiano: Category:Giovanni Battista Paggi - e un architetto barocco italiano: [Category:Giovan Battista Paggi]. - I think the paintings are from Giovanni, not Giovan. - P.S. Can you begin in your private files with your private category:Photographs by User:Sailko ??? [I know you love it, but I hate it to find category:Photographs by User:Sailko between the others]. I think worldwide we write (and add categories) from top to bottom. Adelfrank (talk) 14:22, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
- Hello Adelfrank! Thanks for all the fixes you are doing on files! Please remeber that before 1800s there was no registry office for names, so a LOT of graphic variation were possible and very common. The name Giovanni Battista (from John the Baptist) could be written "Giovan Battista", "Giambattista", "Gianbattista", "Gian Battista", "Battista", "Gio Batta" and many many more, but it is always the same name. In books and captations I can show you many examples of graphic variation on the same person's name. As regards Commons I think we have a standard to mostly use the fully extended names, like "Giovanni Battista", in categories, but we have to be a little flexible, as files can use one of the possible variants. By the way, about "Paggi" I have to be mnore careful in which category it ends. Maybe those categories need a further check, we may decide to divinde into "Giovanni Battista Paggi (architect)" and "Giovanni Battista Paggi (painter)". Thank you 👍 --Sailko (talk) 14:39, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
- As regards the cats position it does not depend on me, but from Upload Wizard and HotCat. It is not my fault sorry! You can see if a bot can help you to move it to the end. Chiusure a richiesta
{{SD|G7}}
e vedrai che saranno cancellate al volo! --Ruthven (msg) 07:04, 3 July 2019 (UTC)

Vecchietta
:-) --Phyrexian ɸ 02:21, 27 September 2019 (UTC)
-- 3knolls (talk) 16:04, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
- 3knolls esattamente così ;) --Sailko (talk) 16:07, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
file Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld
[edit]Hi, there is a typo in the name of your file: You wrote "Caroesfeld" (stanza dell'ariosto (orlando furioso), 1822-27, angelica, ferraù e rinaldo 01.jpg) instead of "Carolsfeld". Could you possibly rename it? Best regards, --Hodsha (talk) 16:18, 8 October 2019 (UTC)
- Done Hodsha --Sailko (talk) 18:13, 8 October 2019 (UTC)
Dipinti nella chiesa di San Martino
[edit]Ciao Sailko.
Grazie mille. Un caro abbraccio. --DenghiùComm (talk) 17:12, 13 October 2019 (UTC)
- DenghiùComm Grazie della segnalazione, ho sistemato ;) --Sailko (talk) 17:38, 13 October 2019 (UTC)
- Grazie mille ! Sei stato velocissimo ! --DenghiùComm (talk) 18:14, 13 October 2019 (UTC)
Important message for file movers
[edit]A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
Welcome, Dear Patroller!
[edit]
Hi Sailko,
You now have the Patroller right and may call yourself a patroller! Please take a moment to read the updated Commons:Patrol to learn how Patrolling works and how we use it to fight vandalism.
As you know already, the patrolling functionality is enabled for all edits, not just for new-page creations. This enables us to keep track of, for example, edits made by anonymous users here on Commons.
We could use your help at the Counter Vandalism Unit. For example by patrolling an Anonymous-edits checklist and checking a day-part.
If you have any questions please leave a message on the CVU talkpage or ask for help on IRC in #wikimedia-commons.

Alexiad
[edit]Hi, if this is a photo of an Alexiad manuscript I’d like to use it in the English Wikipedia Alexiad article. However, the description parameter only gives the name of the museum. Would you mind updating it to make it clear what it is. Many thanks. DeCausa (talk) 11:06, 11 December 2019 (UTC)
- DeCausa I descript the images in the filename :) --Sailko (talk) 11:24, 11 December 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks. I’ve added in a link to the Biblioteca Laurenzia online catalogue entry for the item just to make it clear on the source for en.wp users. Hope you don’t mind. DeCausa (talk) 13:03, 11 December 2019 (UTC)
