Your modifications of licenses of images
[edit]Hi.
It seems you don’t fully understand how the licenses work on the images because I can see you continue to change these licenses on several images.
The license of the object represented is one thing and the license of the image representing that same object is an other one, which may not be the same. So, while an antique artwork representing Marcus Aurelius is in the public domain (as you modify the pages with this subject), the photographs representing that artwork are not in the public domain and you are not allowed to modify the license under which these photographs were published by their authors.
I invite you to read the pages of aids regarding the licenses here on Wikimedia Commons.
Best regards. Sting (talk) 15:42, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
PS: to clarify, the license on a page is the one of the image, not the license of the object depicted which is not informed here on Wikimedia Commons. Sting (talk)
- Sting, I think both the copyright release of the author and a license according to the date the object was created are both relevant. If either one is not right, the image can't be public domain. Векочел (talk) 21:58, 7 February 2019 (UTC)
- I’m sorry, but what you are doing is not correct: you add a license refering to the object depicted on the page of the image (of that object) which was created very recently, so which cannot be under a “PD-OLD” license. Furthermore, you are adding a public domain license (without indicating the license you’re adding refers to the sole object) beside a license with restriction (like a Creative Commons one), which is incompatible.
- The objects depicted are in public domain. If there are restrictions on these objects they will be indicated in the license of the image.
- As I already wrote, the licenses on the information pages here apply to the images, not the subject. Sting (talk) 00:29, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
- It might not be completely necessary, but adding dates for the object ensures that there is no dispute over its public domain status. Векочел (talk) 03:43, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
File:His Majesty Sultan Hitham Bin Tarik Bin Taymor Al Said.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

File:Mohammed bin Salman December 2021.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |
