I see that you blocked this user yesterday for abusing multiple accounts. Do you happen to know what the other accounts are called, or did you just act based on the user's section headers on Meta? I noticed that the user has uploaded lots of copyright violations locally to the English and Italian Wikipedias, and the other account(s) should also be checked for this unless someone already has checked those accounts. --Stefan4 (talk) 14:00, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi Russavia. Dozens of your uploads have syntax errors. Could you please fix them? --Leyo 00:36, 30 October 2013

Russavia, your attempts at fixing have not been successful so far. Example: File:Sunrise At Manly (7806219130).jpg --Sitacuisses (talk) 09:54, 30 October 2013

Thanks, yep noticed that when I did the regex change, not sure exactly why it is doing this, but will get the 100 or so files done in the next day or so. Thanks for notifying. russavia (talk) 09:59, 30 October 2013

Categories

Hello. Loving your plane photos, lots of them are available which is great. Can I please ask in future could you please just add the location of the aircraft and the registration for the categories? That would be amazing if you could. Although their are only two categories these actually cover a lot of categories anyway such as Airbus or Boeing :) Also just be careful with the location category as there are now sub categories for them as well such as Category:Monarch Airlines aircraft at Manchester Airport.

Thanks and keep up your amazing work! :) --MKY661 (talk) 01:50, 16 November 2013 (UTC)

File:Zboralski-anthony-art07.jpeg

Hi to warm Australia! Author of by me downloaded picture: File:Zboralski-anthony-art07.jpeg changed his mind and made restriction: "only for non-commercial use". Under this circumstances we have to remove this file, sorry. Anyway we got another picture of Mr Anthony Zboralski, so it is no problem. Thank for help and sorry for inconveniences. A plush toy for you

Give him a hug
I can't help it, he insisted and I had to put him on your talk page:-) or he said he would vandalize Commons while you are sleeping. So here he is – an innocent teddy bear that wants to keep you company while you are editing. Seleucidis (talk) 09:57, 16 November 2013 (UTC)
  • Thanks, he's cute, but also he reminded me of this. :) russavia (talk) 09:03, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
Oh, this young man on the video made an idiot out of himself. Maybe I could even laugh about it, but after searching for at least half an hour to find probably the most beautiful teddy bear of the whole Commons for you to make you a nice surprise, somehow I did not laugh at it, I couldn't, to be honest I was feeling like crying. Sorry. Seleucidis (talk) 11:18, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

By the way. I have noticed that category sex toys [2] is included in category toys (for children) [3]. Can you remove it yourself? If not, please bring it into administrators' attention. Greetings. --Seleucidis (talk) 10:05, 16 November 2013 (UTC)

  • I won't touch that category, as sex toys are indeed Category:Toys, just a different type of toy. And being not censored, it would amiss to remove that category. russavia (talk) 09:03, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
I did some research. Categories Toy and Sex toy are completely separated on enwp, dewp, plwp, frwp ad nlwp, even if the name sex toy in the original language contains the word toy in it, just like in English. In Polish the name has nothing to do with the word toy and means sexual accessories, so the Polish reader will always be flabbergasted to find sex toys among toys for children on Commons. Also in Dutch language there is similarity between seksspeeltje (sex toy) and speelgoed (toys), but the category is named seksueel hulpmiddel, that means sexual aid. Only enwp mentions sex toy in a disambiguation. All other wikipedias nlwp, plwp, frwp, dewp don't mention sex toy in disambiguation. The Oxford dictionaries keep these two terms separately: [4] & [5]. Also in real life these two kinds of toys are completely separated. In a toy shop you can buy toys for children, but you won't find there sex toys, even hidden on the highest shelf:-) If one wants to buy a sex toy, one must go to a sex shop. I am afraid Commons category Toys is the only legal place where these two kinds of toys (toys for children and sex toys for adults) are put together in one sack. Are all of them wrong or are we wrong on Commons? That's the question. It has nothing to do with religion or censorship. It has to do with common sense and human decency. Commons is international, so should apply international solutions. Personally I am sure that no adult will search for sex toys on Commons among children toys, but will type sex toys in our search-box and will be immediately redirected to category sex toys, just because the term has sense only in combination of these two words. And yes, category toys is an interesting category for our young readers, and we don't need to confront a 6 years old child with [6], because the child will be scared and will cry. So please have a rest, listen to some nice and quiet music [7], [8] and take a look at this issue again with clear mind. Greetings. --Seleucidis (talk) 10:58, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

Hey there, this logo is in fact {{PD-textlogo}} so it would be ok for us to host it here on Commons, if we simply add {{Trademark}} to it. That all ok? russavia (talk) 14:03, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

Can you ID these markings?

Can you tell what Air Force this Mig-15 belongs to or is painted to represent?

Articseahorse (talk) 03:06, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

Not too sure, perhaps it could be Bangladesh? Also, the aircraft is a Shenyang JJ-5, and I have renamed it accordingly. russavia (talk) 01:01, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

The fact that a page exist on wikidata doesn't means that the subject should be notable, in effect all the edit there are done by bots, except the two you did. Most of the articles on wikipedia's are done by unregistred users and never been modified except that by bots. Understanding of the Catalan Government licensing

Hello Russavia! the other day I reviewed with positive result this image based on the terms of use of the Catalan Government (English version, Spanish version). Later on I learned from the uploader (see discussion in my talk page, unfortunately in Spanish) that you had actually questioned the license here and asked for deletion of an image based on the same license. The point is that they want to allow derivative works:

the Administration permits the reproduction, distribution and public communication of the work and, furthermore, the transformation of the work in order to make derived works, for everyone and without time limits, and provided that it does not contradict any license or notice that a work may hold.

but just want to avoid that the information is not distorted (the original text in Spanish/Catalan is better here: "No desnaturalizar el sentido de la información."). So, derivative works are welcome, but they don't want that the message of the information is changed but still appear as source. I am not sure whether this is actually a problem for media, and rather applies for textual information. If an image is changed in a way they don't like the information is not there anymore. I don't know if I can express myself on this. What do you think? We should in any case be consistent with the usage of images from this site. In parallel I will ask them to adopt CC-BY-SA, or at least CC-BY, through the Spanish Wikimedian Chapter, where I belong to. Regards, Poco2 12:57, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

About one deleted file

It has been a few months since I lasted edited/visited English Wikipedia and now that I do I see my images are not there. Well, I acknowledge that some of the images which I uploaded didn't have the required licensing attached with them, yes and I admit should have been more cautious but they were owing to my lack of comprehensive knowledge about the application of licenses and not intentional violations, as you perhaps might imagine. Now, what is done is done, moving on!

I would like to draw your attention to one of the files which I believe, no I am sure, was created solely by me using Google svg editor and one of Wikipedia's svg file (map of the world). I do not know what would have been the right license for it, could you please take a look into this matter.

We can work it out:-)

Hi Russavia! The whole issue met the video eats at everybody. So to see there is no obvious consensus. It seems like a never ending story. Every few months it is being nominated for deletion. What do you think about this suggestion JKadavoor made that: someone contact Pricasso for a less controversial work and replace it. Maybe WMF could pay the price of a new painting and video and maybe there will be no problem to find a volunteer willing to be portrayed by Pricasso. Jimmy Wales would be happy, you would have peace of mind and less drama made around your person. Life is very short and there is no time for fussing and fighting, my friend:-) [9] Seleucidis (talk) 09:36, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

+1. Pricasso claims he has fully consented work of people like Helen Zille; then why don't make an attempt than sticking on that work with no consent? Jee 09:45, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
Actually, that was my idea, not Jkadavoor's. But, not being Apple, I haven't applied for a patent on it. :) darkweasel94 11:06, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

Support That would certainly be classed as good faith. 131.137.245.209 18:00, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

If anyone wants to contact the WMF and put this proposal to them, then they are free to do so, but at the moment, this is what we have at the moment, it breaks no policies, and the whole brouhaha over Jimmy is totally redundant. So I will leave that in the capable hands of others, but on this project we don't engage in censorship, and I am surprised at the number of people who are advocating for censorship in this case.

BTW, I stated some time ago that the painting would be auctioned, and one can now see it here. All proceeds from the sale go to the WMF and WMAU -- 50/50. I did attempt to list it on eBay but due to it not being sanctioned by the WMF or WMAU, and as per this eBay policy, it was not able to be listed on that site. :( russavia (talk) 01:02, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

  • I doubt if it was a good idea to put the portrait to be auctioned right now, if ever, while we are still trying to solve the issue. Isn't it better to donate it to WMAU as a decoration of their quarters? Only there, there is the most suitable place for a portrait of the co-founder of Wikipedia made by an Australian artist. I truly suggest doing that instead of an auction. You are surely right talking about the censorship, but we must also take feelings and emotions into consideration. Seleucidis (talk) 09:22, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
    • We all know that it was always going to be auctioned, and it was always known that proceeds would be donated. The artist even said so to at least one journalist that I know of. The timing is coincidental only, as we are now in the "begging for donation" season, and I have spent some time talking to eBay CSR's relating to a couple of issues, in particular the charity aspect. It was suggested by another person that I omit any mention of the proceeds being donated, but this would make it look like I am profiting from this, and that is not the case, and it would go against the reason that Pricasso donated the painting, and would also go against what has been previously publicly stated in relation to the proceeds being donated. So after some back and forth emails between myself and eBay, over the period of several days, the decision was made to sell it on quicksales. As I say, the timing is mere coincidence.
    • As to donating it to WMAU to decorate "their quarters", WMAU doesn't have any offices, they aren't a rich chapter like WMDE, WMUK, and these others that have budgets of 100,000s or millions of dollars. And, again, it would take away from the reason that the painting was donated as well -- i.e. auctioned to benefit the WMAU and WMF.
    • In relation to feelings and emotions, we should take that into consideration, but only in so far as it relates to the board resolution and what we should, and have basically always tried to do here on Commons -- that being showing respect and courtesy to people with complaints about images about themselves. It does not mean that anyone with a complaint about their image will see that image being deleted from Commons as a result of that complaint. Commons:Deletion_requests/File:P1080449_-_Elena_LENINA.jpg is such an example. Everything else is merely smoke and mirrors, and needs to be ignored. But yes, the censorship issue is a major one that could affect Commons, and Pete Forsyth has shown some great examples of images which we should also delete, if we are to delete this inuse, and in scope, media file. russavia (talk) 17:37, 14 December 2013 (UTC)

"Humpback whale" photos from Madagascar

You added several photos of "humpback whales" that actually show southern right whales. The former have a relatively straight mouthline, have tubercles on their rostrum, and lack callosities, whereas the latter have an arched mouthline, lack tubercles, and possess callosities like the whales in the photos. How did you confuse the two? SHFW70 (talk) 04:36, 17 December 2013 (UTC)

"Boneheaded tirades"

Hi Russavia I have to say that this statement of yours goes quite some way beyond what is socially acceptable on Commons. As a highly experienced admin here you know very well that personal attacks on others are not permitted, and that you should be setting an example. Your posting was particularly egregious being made as it was just hours after I warned against personal attacks being made on that very page.

I make no comment on any provocations you feel you have been exposed to, as I would expect admins to be above responding by means of direct attack whatever the provocation. Your postings are and remain your own responsibility even if others may have done the same and got away with similar outbursts. I would probably have blocked another editor, but have not done so here as you are closely involved and may have relevant comments to make on the applicability of the new WMF board resolution.

May I ask that you reconsider your post and strike at least some of it? --MichaelMaggs (talk) 15:31, 18 December 2013 (UTC)

I hope you are not dreaming of a white Christmas. It would be difficult to fix it for you:-) Well, we will have a green Christmas, but I do not mind. Seleucidis (talk) 15:00, 24 December 2013 (UTC)

Happy Holidays and all the best for 2014

Christmas market (Weihnachtsmarkt) in Ulm in front of our 14th-century Gothic Minster

Hi Russavia, thanks for the kind seasonal greetings at my talk page. I wish you and your family as well happy holidays and all the best for 2014. Greetings from Ulm that is currently not as cold as it should be (due to the Föhn coming down from the Alps), AFBorchert (talk) 23:21, 25 December 2013 (UTC)

Feliz navidad retrasada

Feliz Navidad

Cheer up

Hey Russavia! That's not the end of the world. Take a rest, breath deep a few times and come back to editing Commons. Remember, everybody loses, we all got bruises. Every disadvantage has its advantage. Seleucidis (talk) 16:29, 26 December 2013 (UTC) But bruises heal. Learn from them. And keep going on. As somebody wisely said in the comments. I assume this edit was a mistake, with which you removed the copyright tag from the image I found in Category:Media without a license: needs history check today. Please be more careful when editing such image details because, as an admin you no doubt know, it could well have been deleted for lack of a licence except that I reviewed the history and found the problem. Request...and a question :P

Hi mate, in future if there are anymore of such impersonation socks at EN, could you inform me on my talk page here? And I've a question for you - similar in style to one that you asked me before: Do you still stand by your comments and edit summary in this edit? :P Cheers, (✉→Arctic Kangaroo←✎) 03:42, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

I will answer your questions relating to my comments in a week or so, there are issues which I am trying to get the WMF to address, and it falls upon deaf ears. Nothing about your personally, but it is time that these issues are looked at. russavia (talk) 15:08, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Clouds in the coffee:-)

A mug of coffee, made in the right way milk first, to keep your mind sharp while editing Commons

Hallo Russavia! As you have already noticed the new, neutral files have been not only uploaded, but also provided with the necessary OTRS tickets. Jkadavoor added the picture into the article on en.wp. I hope you like Milton – the dog who has made it:-) The wiki-drama is over. I hope we all have learned something from this unpleasant affair, so I hope we will be able to avoid such wiki-dramas in the future, that all of this misery was not for nothing, that we are wiser, we forgive each other and will move on with our lives. I wish you a good luck in your life and a lot of pleasure while editing Commons. I hope you will soon regain the trust of the contributors who lost the trust in you, because end good – all good as the Dutch say. Take care of yourself, will you? Greetings. Seleucidis (talk) 10:14, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

At no point has Russavia ever lost my trust. -- (talk) 10:27, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

Flickr relicensing

Hi russavia. As I think you have some routine in asking people to relicense their Flickr streams (I don't even know how to send private messages or what the relicensing interface looks like, nor do I already have some "standard letter" for this - never used my Flickr account for anything), could you, when you have some time, perhaps ask this user to relicense this set Commons-compatibly? These photos would be really awesome to have on Commons. I'm prepared to do the uploading and categorization once they are compatibly licensed. Thanks! darkweasel94 10:32, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

Have contacted him, will let you know if I get a response. russavia (talk) 03:35, 25 January 2014 (UTC)

Does not the custom paint job on this give rise to a COM:DW issue ? LGA talkedits 03:25, 25 January 2014 (UTC)

Not particularly, it would be covered by Commons:FOP#Germany russavia (talk) 03:35, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
How so, it would fail the Permanent test of the German FOP requirements. LGA talkedits 05:56, 25 January 2014 (UTC)

Where on the page cited as the evidence of the license does it mention the CC-BY- license? Geni (talk) 06:56, 25 January 2014 (UTC)

Files name

Hi Russavia, thanks for uploading pictures about uzbekistan; it would be very nice if you could name the picture so that we know what it is. For some of them, it's easy to know but not for most of them. So we have some beautiful pictures but we don't know what it is. Faithfully yours--Faqscl (talk) 18:36, 25 January 2014 (UTC)

Why have you put all of these in Category:Unidentified birds? They are all identified, and shouldn't be in this category. Could you remove them again, please, I don't have the time to do the over 600 edits needed . . . Thanks! - MPF (talk) 21:01, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

I helped out with adding the OTRS tag to these images some time ago via User:Russavia/otrs. Going through my subpages I saw this page. Birds are not my forte, but to ensure that they are in correct categories, which it appears most were not, I've added it to that category so that those familiar with birds are able to help with categorisation, etc. No-one expects you to do them all by any means. :) russavia (talk) 21:08, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
I looked at a small sample, and every one also had the correct species category. Just to show the magnitude and annoyance of the task you have created, there are 611 files in Category:Richard Crossley, and 628 files in Category:Unidentified birds, so therefore, 17 files scattered somewhere among the total which should be in Category:Unidentified birds and were likely added by other editors. But who now is going to ever find the time and effort to search for those 17 files among the 628 to try to identify them? Will they ever get looked at again? Sorry to get so exasperated, but this is a very serious and potentially permanent wreckage of the value of the category. - MPF (talk) 21:14, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
Hmmm, OK I see my sample was too small ;-) I'll start on tackling them, a few a day and have it cleared in a couple of months . . . MPF (talk) 22:11, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
We could ask the uploader, User:Princetonnature to help with that. russavia (talk) 22:31, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
Good idea, thanks! - MPF (talk) 23:08, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
