Verdin image on your web site

I see you have used my Verdin image on your websit here, which is fine, but I believe you need to make the license terms explicit on that page. (You've attributed the image an linked to my photo gallery, which is perfectly proper.) The easiest way to make the license clear is to link to the cc-by-sa 2.5 license description on your web page. You currently have not done that, and I think you should do so.--Cotinis 16:37, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Thymophylla id

File:Thymophylla acerosa.jpg has mystified me for awhile, because it didn't seem to have many of the species' characters, but there aren't many pictures online to compare with. Finally it occurred to me; this is actually Pectis papposa - note the leaves that are more linear than pointed, the lack of woodiness in the stems, etc. Stan Shebs (talk) 14:49, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Thank you, Stan, for pointing this out. I researched the possible misidentification and feel now that you are likely correct. Unfortunately I did not collect a voucher and the area now is dried out with nothing green to see. Given the uncertainty I will probably delete the image from Wikimedia in the next couple of days.

@Pompilid, so File:Thymophylla acerosa.jpg does not show Pectis papposa? Because, if it does, the file can easily be renamed. --Túrelio (talk) 21:06, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear. If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. Attribution for image

Dear Sir,

I would like to use your image of the encrusting termite activity "Gnathamitermes_perplexus.jpg" available at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File%3AGnathamitermes_perplexus.jpg, in an extension-outreach publication related to pests in community environments. This publication is purely for educational purposes and has no commercial interests whatsoever.

However, the suggested attribution format, "I, Pompilid [GFDL (http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/fdl.html), CC-BY-SA-3.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/) or CC-BY-SA-2.5-2.0-1.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.5-2.0-1.0)], via Wikimedia Commons", is very different from the style I will be following for other pictures in my publication, which will most likely be much shorter and in the format:

"Photo by John Doe", or "Photo by John Doe, XYZ.org".

Therefore for the sake of consistency, kindly let me know whether I may cite the images in the above formats, and if so, what name/affiliation should I use.
