Copyright status: File:Kasama (Zambia) cathedral o. Franciszek Szczurek 01.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Kasama (Zambia) cathedral o. Franciszek Szczurek 01.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Welcome, Dear Filemover!
[edit]
Hi Pnapora, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:
- Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
- Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
- Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Welcome, Dear Patroller!
[edit]
Hi Fallaner,
You now have the Patroller right and may call yourself a patroller! Please take a moment to read the updated Commons:Patrol to learn how Patrolling works and how we use it to fight vandalism.
As you know already, the patrolling functionality is enabled for all edits, not just for new-page creations. This enables us to keep track of, for example, edits made by anonymous users here on Commons.
We could use your help at the Counter Vandalism Unit. For example by patrolling an Anonymous-edits checklist and checking a day-part.
If you have any questions please leave a message on the CVU talkpage or ask for help on IRC in #wikimedia-commons. --Steinsplitter (talk) 18:52, 8 November 2014 (UTC)

Rock Galicja
Dzięki i pozdrawiam H.Rabiega (talk) 20:32, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
Dlaczego? Pozdrawiam H.Rabiega (talk) 20:58, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
Hej,
[edit]Usunęłam z Twojej strony użytkownika Category:Media requiring renaming. Założyłam, że się pomyliłeś przy kopiowaniu. Jeśli jednak chcesz zmienić swoją nazwę użytkownika, trzeba o to poprosić na meta. Pozdrawiam, Wieralee (talk) 00:07, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
Pozdrawiam, miłego wieczoru :-) Wieralee (talk) 20:10, 14 September 2015 (UTC)

Chciałem ci zwrócić uwagę na kilka niuansów związanych z grafikami na Commons:
- Szablon {{PD-old-auto-1996}} wymaga podania kraju pochodzenia oraz dotyczy prac opublikowanych w latach 1923-1989
- dla opublikowanych przed 1.1.1923 należy stosować szablon {{PD-old-auto-1923}}
- mam poważne wątpliwości, czy rzeczywiście Orkan jest oryginalnym autorem tego zdjęcia (fotografem), ale może z treści książki tak wynika (nie czytałem); sam fakt zamieszczenia zdjęcia w jego książce nie nadaje mu praw. Być może lepszym szablonem w tym kontekście byłby {{PD-Poland}} lub {{Anonymous-EU}}
Ankry (talk) 06:17, 20 September 2017 (UTC)
@Ankry:

I teraz ja jestem właścicielem.

Pozdrowienia, --Jasc PL (talk) 17:57, 31 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Jasc PL: Wikipedia to nie jednomyślność, to wspólne dążenie do jednego celu. --Fallaner (talk) 21:58, 31 March 2018 (UTC)
Pozdrowienia, --Jasc PL (talk) 23:25, 31 March 2018 (UTC)

- @Sealle: This (probably) photograph was made for legal document (like passport) according to specific rules and has no original work in it. So no violation was done. --Fallaner (talk) 20:25, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
- It is somewhat unusual to see such arguments from an experienced user. This photo was taken by a professional photographer, and he in no way lost his copyright at the moment when (probably!) this photo was pasted somewhere. In any case, the template you used is absolutely not applicable to complex photographic works. Sealle (talk) 20:34, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Sealle: According to Polish law photographs done routinely and according to strict regulations (like passport photographs) and not subject of copyright because it contains no original work (more any original work is strictly prohibited). Here you have information [1] in Polish about it. There are lot of such photographs in Commons. Maybe this photograph suppose to be restored and being a subject of discussion? Maybe is worth to ask anybody else? --Fallaner (talk) 05:44, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Ankry and Taivo: Sealle (talk) 07:22, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Sealle: Yes, the above is correct. Such photos where standard requirements for personal IDs applies, are considered in Poland non-creative works so not copyrightable. However, as they may be copyrighted in US, I tend to require an evidence of pre 1.3.1989 publication of the photo (photos published earlier are PD due to URAA and their PD status in Poland; while US copyright law applies directly to photos published later). Also, for any such photo {{PD-Poland}} may be applied (as made before 1994 and no copyright notice on it), but the above US copyright requirement applies as well then. Ankry (talk) 07:37, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
- However, if the photo was not published earlier nor used in official documents, we must be careful: 25-year EU first publication exclusive publisher right might apply. (2017+25+1 = expires 1.1.2043 if applicable) Ankry (talk) 07:42, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
- Do we have evidence this photo was made for (and used in) any official document? I find it artistic enough — embossed photo paper was rarely used for official photos, I suppose. Sealle (talk) 07:49, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
- Such paper was commonly used for document photos in 1970s and likely in 1960s for documentary photos (one of my early photos from 1976 was on such paper). It look like standard documentary photo, but it seems there is no evidence that it was used in documents. And, I am afraid, it is unlikely to find ones: due to his death circumstances the communist secret services likely tried to remove any evidence of his existence from official documents. I even doubt if his family has any. This is sad, but I am afraid we will never have an evidence that this photo is PD in US. In Poland it is simply {{PD-Poland}} due to creation date and obvious lack of copyright notice. Ankry (talk) 08:09, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
- I agree with others. {{PD-Polish}} has bold sentence: "Please provide where and when the image was first published." Source site says, that the photo comes from "archiwum prywatne", private archive. Publication before 1994 is not sure, such photos can remain unpublished for years and decades. Taivo (talk) 08:17, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
- However, if the photo was not published earlier nor used in official documents, we must be careful: 25-year EU first publication exclusive publisher right might apply. (2017+25+1 = expires 1.1.2043 if applicable) Ankry (talk) 07:42, 29 September 2019 (UTC)

Important message for file movers
[edit]A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Firstly, I would like to thank you for the edits as of "19:35, 13 October 2020". Secondly, by uploading files in (Category:Khudoyor Yusufbekov) two categories, I made mistakes and 2 unwanted (hidden) categories appeared – (Category:Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike missing SDC copyright status) and (Category:Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International missing SDC copyright license) in (File:3 – Погребение академика Х. [edit]Hello! On this file is depicted the synagogue of mountain jews in Baku. And on this file is depicted the synagogue of ashkenazi (European) jews in Baku. As you see, the names are clearly misleading. But you said that my renaming request does not comply with renaming guidelines. What should we do with this? --Delasse (talk) 09:10, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Delasse: Problem is that if you are right, there more things to be corrected when just name (i.e. category, description). And what about rest of pictures in Category:Synagogue of Mountain Jews in Baku or Category:Synagogue of Mountain Jews in Baku? I personally think that first of all you have to contact uploader of this picture, or if he dien't respond it will be necessary to find reliable source confirming error. --Fallaner (talk) 05:48, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
- Uploader is blocked indef. Is this the reliable source? I can find many others sources if it is not enough. The rest of the pictures in the categories are placed correctly, only ones uploaded by Urek Meniashvili are named incorrectly. --Delasse (talk) 10:59, 29 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Delasse: I checked both categories and there are other files in them supporting initial identification of synagogue, so moving and editing process should be broader then initially proposed. Article which you provided (now and before) is only about one synagogue. --Fallaner (talk) 05:32, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
- The source for another synagogue. Which files (or sources) are supporting identification of synagogue by Urek Meniashvili? --Delasse (talk) 12:49, 31 October 2020 (UTC)

Please leave redirects when you rename
[edit]Hi! When you reaname please leave a redirect. For example File:Pcs34560 ekibenn01.JPG. The file was used on Japanese Wikipedia. --MGA73 (talk) 12:14, 1 November 2020 (UTC)
- @MGA73: In theory system suppose to move file on every Wiki which is linked to it. And more system is suppose to not allow me to move files without leaving redirect when file is used anywhere. But everything can fail. -Fallaner (talk) 13:54, 1 November 2020 (UTC)
- Yes. But also remember that it is not just Wikipedia and other official wikis that use files on Commons. There are thousands of wikis. Files can be used on all websites and in every printed book or magazine in the world. So if you move a file and do not leave a redirect you may break the link somewhere. So it is safer to leave the redirect.
- For example: A file is used on xx.wiki. Someone remove the file (a vandal). You rename the file and system conclude that the file is not in use. Someone revert the edit made by the vandal. The file does not work because you renamed without leaving a redirect. --MGA73 (talk) 14:45, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

Flag of Tatar ASSR
[edit]-
(1937-1939)

(1939-1954)
С.Ф.С.Р.", "R.S.F.S.R.", "Татарская А.С.С.Р.", "Tatarstan A.S.S.R.". [edit]These are just the ones that begin with Cyrillic A, and probably not even all of them. Initial Cyrillic C, K, M, P, and T also have a whole bunch, and H and O have a few. What I've been doing is typing a Cyrillic first letter and a Latin second letter into the search bar of the English Wikipedia (although it probably also works on Wikimedia Commons) and seeing what comes up. There are many more for Cyrillic than there are for Greek. It would take too much work to list them all.

renaming PDF
[edit]Fallaner File:The Riverside Press - Cambridge, Massachusetts (IA riversidepressca00riverich).pdf has a name that makes it awkward to use at wikisource. See how File:Dickens - A tale of two cities, 1898.djvu is used to make s:en:Index:Dickens - A tale of two cities, 1898.djvu? The filename is also used for each page in the PDF or DJVU. The archive id used within the name is there to make automated uploads easier -- not so much for people.
Please consider 1, the name changes I requested (January projects for me, in the cold and dark north) and 2, adding a reason for a name change to the template that expresses this need (ie software generated name is crappy for actual use).--RaboKarbakian (talk) 12:33, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
Also: File:Instructions concerning erecting of a library, presented to My Lord the President De Mesme (IA instructionsconc00naudrich).pdf File:Handbook of style in use at the Riverside press, Cambridge, Massachusetts (IA handbookofstylei00riverich).pdf and File:Handbook of style in use at the Riverside press, Cambridge, Massachusetts (IA handbookofstylei00riverich).pdf --RaboKarbakian (talk) 12:42, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
- @RaboKarbakian: Problem is that you removed library coding part i.e. (IA handbookofstylei00riverich) And rule is If possible, language and schema should be preserved, as well as the camera or catalogue number. --Fallaner (talk) 12:58, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
- As my feedback was requested, there's unlikely to be any issue with fixing or making more usable the title part of the filename. The key reason to keep the unique ID part, is that even if everything else is wrong or lost, IA handbookofstylei00riverich can be used to find the original source on IA, plus using the standard search will immediately find all extracted images, including Flickr imports if the IA URL is the basis of searching content.
- So though the full Ident may look ugly, it is the best we have for a way of keeping filenames both unique, short-ish and harmonized with 800,000 collection so far.
- The issue here is the way Wikisource has an easy presentation, but that could be fixed by having a local convention for redirected book titles. This would not need any changes on Commons to be able to work.
- Keep in mind there are long term name issues, like how Wikisource might work in multiple languages. If you are editing in Spanish, it would be incredibly annoying to be forced to use an English title for an original Spanish book. However there's no convention for renaming Commons files to match the language of original publication, no matter that native speakers would find it highly desirable. Again, this is more a local policy and fix for sister projects to decide than for Commons to try to solve, or even attempt a consensus for. --Fæ (talk) 20:40, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
- The Index pages that the sourcers use are transcluded into a less editable space, that don't require a pretty name. Desktop display does link to them, however.

- So far, the only translations I have seen between the different language wiki.sources have already been published that way and I think it will be a while before they do anything like that. Source sites are set up to make electronic versions of scans.
- I understand very well the need to keep track of things here. Filenames are not the best way, I think but do not know for certain. That I used to upload the same files with the title and the year was not ever identified as a problem.--RaboKarbakian (talk) 00:58, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
- The difference is scaling up to a very large project. As these are part of what has become a 1 million book project, there will be many instances where title is not unique. In one case I have looked at, the book exists in 13 editions, of which 5 editions have been separately digitized and uploaded to Commons. Every edition has enough educational value to retain that version. Rather than worrying about adding year, edition ref or volume numbers to the title, the IA unique reference solves this without having to work out a large state machine just to make the filename generation possible. --Fæ (talk) 11:05, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

- I was just talking about the scans we use at wikisource. When I picked them myself, I would try for the best scan when the same book from the same printing had different copies scanned. Wikidata wants separate records for each. Some scanners are weird about color in the color illustrations also. Truly, I never expected a huge upload of them all. Nevermind my complaints (and feelings), mostly, I think they are cool.--RaboKarbakian (talk) 23:43, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
File:Flag of The Kazakh Autonomous Socialist Soviet Republic.svg откуда ВотанБатан (talk) 00:39, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
ВотанБатан (talk) 00:57, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
I can see edit warring about this issue before. Because of that before any next move you need really good source better even two for your proposal of change. --Fallaner (talk) 05:39, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

We need your feedback!
[edit]Hello. Apologies if this message is not in your native language: please feel free to respond in the language of your choice. Thank you!
I am writing to you because we are looking for feedback for a new Wikimedia Foundation project, Structured Data Across Wikimedia (SDAW). SDAW is a grant-funded programme that will explore ways to structure content on wikitext pages in a way that will be machine-recognizable and -relatable, in order to make reading, editing, and searching easier and more accessible across projects and on the Internet. We are now focusing on designing and building image suggestion features for experienced users.
We have some questions to ask you about your experience with uploading images here on Wikimedia Commons and then adding them to Wikipedia. You can answer these questions on a specific feedback page on Mediawiki, where we will gather feedback. As I said, these questions are in English, but your answers do not need to be in English! You can also answer in your own language, if you feel more comfortable.
Once the collecting of feedback will be over, we will sum it up and share with you a summary, along with updated mocks that will incorporate your inputs.
Also, if you want to keep in touch with us or you want to know more about the project, you can subscribe to our newsletter.
Hope to hear from you soon! -- Sannita (WMF) (talk to me!) 09:56, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
Rename Request Denial File:Andersonvillesurvivor.jpg
[edit]Hello, thanks for responding to my renaming request a few days ago regarding this image File:Andersonvillesurvivor.jpg. I was wondering why you denied the request. I looked over the renaming guidelines and I'm not sure what the problem is. The image is not, according to the Library of Congress (the source), of someone from Andersonville prison. There is a caption written on the card that says otherwise, but the LoC notes that this is likely erroneous. My only concern is that this is not what I would an obvious error. It's pretty nuanced. The reason I even found the image is because it has wormed its way into several pages on English Wikipedia and elsewhere with the incorrect caption. But from reading the renaming guidlines, it seems that a title that incorrectly identifies the subject counts as an "obvious error" and should be correct. Sorry if I'm missing anything, as this is my first time contributing to Wikimedia Commons. As I said, I'm here because the error in this image title has been propagated on at least a dozen pages on English Wikipedia and elsewhere and I'm trying to fix it at the source before I correct the record elsewhere.
Mis-identified bells
[edit]Hi Fallaner. You seem to have mis-identified the following images:
- File:Holy Land 2019 (1) P116 Jerusalem St. Stephen Greek Orthodox monastery bells.jpg
- File:Holy Land 2019 (1) P117 Jerusalem St. Stephen Greek Orthodox monastery bells.jpg
- File:Holy Land 2019 (1) P118 Jerusalem St. Stephen Greek Orthodox monastery bells.jpg
It is not the bell tower of Saint Stephen's Monastery, but of the Church of All Nations. Compare for example with this and this image, which show the tower next to the Garden of Gethsemane and the Church of all Nations. As author and file mover, I thought you would like the honour of renaming/redescribing/recategorising your own photos. Cheers! --HyperGaruda (talk) 19:58, 20 November 2021 (UTC)
images of recent sculptures
[edit]Hi Fallaner, when you upload photographies of modern sculptures/statues, you should try to mention the name of the sculptor/artist in the image-description, as these sculptures are still in copyright by the sculptor. --Túrelio (talk) 10:45, 18 April 2022 (UTC)
- Autors of this modern sculptures are clearly mentioned in category description and in Wikidata. But if you think that it will be better I can do it later today. Fallaner (talk) 10:53, 18 April 2022 (UTC)
- Sure, but when these images are used externally (outside of Wikimedia-projects), category-information is usually lost. --Túrelio (talk) 10:57, 18 April 2022 (UTC)

Pytanie
[edit]Na jakim źródle opierasz nazywanie tych małych krzyżyków na dachu świątyni np. [8] krzyżami pokutnymi? Pozdrawiam Robert Niedźwiedzki (talk) 00:59, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
Fallaner (talk) 14:57, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
