Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

Alvast bedankt. Siebrand 10:52, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
Hi. Your speedy deletion request for "too large" is nonsense, we want large images! And 800kb isn't large, we want several megabytes, and can take up to 15 at least. If there's somewhere you were trying to use the image perhaps I can help. The MediaWiki software can automatically resize images when using them in articles. MECU≈talk 16:39, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
File tagging File:Общероссийское голосование 22 апреля 2020.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Общероссийское голосование 22 апреля 2020.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Общероссийское голосование 22 апреля 2020.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Deletion requests
[edit]Hi, You must inform the uploader when you tag a file for deletion. Thanks, Yann (talk) 15:19, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Yann: Apologies, I thought a bot did that (it certainly used to). However, I had told them on en.wiki to stop uploading copyvios and they continued... Number 57 (talk) 15:56, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
Hi, I'm the user the uploaded the image of 2012 Egyptian presidential candidate, Ahmed Shafik. you nominated the file File:احمد_شفيق.jpg, for speedy deletion. Claiming that it "has been found on a random website and uploaded without any evidence this is free image".
First of all the image is NOT from a random website, it is from the Egyptian Arabic Wikipedia. It had been Transferred from arz.wikipedia to Commons by Raafat using CommonsHelper. user:Raafat, is the Original uploader of the file, and they uploaded the file on July 3rd, 2011. The original uploader could have not never uploaded the original file on Egyptian Arabic Wikipedia without it being a free image, and here it is on Wikipedia for 13 years. I have given credit to the original uploader in the file description, and I've clearly not ever claimed of being the original uploader and getting the image from a "random website". If you don't believe me, you can go see it for yourself, but please don't make assumptions and report files for speedy deletion, while having no proof for your assumption. Please revise your decision. German2000 (talk) 20:02, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- @German2000: Firstly, the claim that "The original uploader could have not never uploaded the original file on Egyptian Arabic Wikipedia without it being a free image" is nonsense – thousands of images are uploaded to Wikipedia or Commons that are copyright violations. And of course, I have checked the image on arz.wiki to see if was indeed a free image, but it does not have any details about its source, so there is no evidence it is a free image.
- Secondly, Raafat did not transfer the image to Commons – you did, as can be seen from the file history – you uploaded it and then added a tag claiming Raafat transferred it.
- My assumptions were based on the fact that you have previously uploaded copyright-violating images of Shafik that were taken from websites where they were not free images. The fact that you are now being dishonest about who uploaded it to Commons is even more concerning. Number 57 (talk) 20:12, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
