Please help me!
[edit]Hello Marchjuly! I need your help. You have recently tagged my file File:'Bird's Madhubani drawing' by Harsh Kharya.jpg with the template Template:dw-nsd. But this file is completely my own son's work. He made the drawing himself. So what is the problem with it? Can you please tell the problem with the file. It is my own son's work. Please help me. Thank you Marchjuly. GoldenHayato (talk) 04:14, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- @GoldenHayato: There was no way to know what you posted above from the information provided in the file's description. Technically, your son would be the copyright holder; however, assuming he's still a minor and you as his parent are his legal guardian, I guess that would make you his representative and thus capable of releasing the file under a CC license. You might, however, want to clarify these things in the file's description instead of just claiming the work is your own. Another option would for you to send a COM:CONSENT email to Wiikimedia VRT to verify what you've posted above. A VRT volunteer will look at the email and add a template {{Permission received}} to the file's page once they've verified things. Before you do all of this though you should understand that by uploading your son's work to Commons under a CC license, you're essentially giving anyone anywhere in the world permission to download the file at anytime and use it anyway they want as explained in COM:REUSE. They can use it to make money or use as part of another work, or even use it in a way that you or your son might not like. As long as they comply with the terms of the license, they can continue using the file without need to get any additional permission (at least doing so won't be considered a copyright violation). Moreover, once you agree to such a thing, you cant really change your mind later on per COM:LRV. Finally, and this has more to do with English Wikipedia than Commons, your son seems to be quite the artist and I'm sure you're quite proud of him. Wikipedia articles, however, aren't really places for uploading and displaying the artwork of family members unless they are considered to be established artists in their field by established experts in that field. Trying to add your son's work to en:Madhubani art is most likely something that would be considered a en:Wikipedia:Conflict of interest as well as a form of en:Wikipedia:Promotion, and it isn't something you really should be doing. Even if there are no copyright issues with the file, you really shouldn't be adding it to any English Wikipedia articles unless it's a work that is commonly referred to as being representative of that particular genre by established experts in Madhubani art. If you're proud of your son's work and want to post it somewhere, then you can almost certainly add it to your Wikipedia and Commons user pages if you want. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:00, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Marchjuly: Thank you for replying and explaining me. I have added correct source in description, then removed the template. And actually I have not uploaded his work for promotion, I have added it for the gallery section of the Wikipedia article Madhubani art. Thank you.— Preceding unsigned comment added by GoldenHayato (talk • contribs) 05:19, February 24, 2022 (UTC)
- You shouldn't be adding your son's work to any Wikipedia articles for the reasons I gave above. Even if your son is considered to be an established artist of Madhubani art whose work is critically acclaimed and recognized by Madhubani art experts, you shouldn't really be adding it to any Wikipedia articles. You should make an en:WP:Edit request on the article's talk page and propose that it be added. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:26, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
