Login into mass cleanup tool does not work
When i click login in the mass cleanup tool i get to the identify verfier page. When then clicking authorize the tool i get to the OAuth asking for access to meta.wikimedia.org. After accepting it, i get an empty page. When reloading the mass cleanup tool i see that i am still not logged in. Can you please help? --Arnd (talk) 15:07, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Don't take it easy
Please. And respond quickly. The "File: Sopa de la cazuela" is my own work. The soup itself also. I am away from my computer and the one I used for that file had some browser issue for which reason I could not use the conventional upload assistant. Now I am writing, difficultly, from a mobile phone. As you see I am not an internet magician. (Good at cooking though. :) Please be a good saamaritan and correct the things in my name. --E4024 (talk) 12:48, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

File:Washington Governor Election Results by County, 2016.svg
Hello. I'm letting you know that the image for the Washington State gubernatorial election results needs to be updated. Clallam County and Whitman County both voted Republican, but the map shows them as voting Democratic. Thank you for your assistance. Date cleanup issue
A potential issue in date cleanup (example)—my understanding was not to put "September 1916" as "1916-09" lest it be confused as a year range rather than as a month+year. czar 19:01, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Czar: the template will automatically parse 1916-09 into September 1916 in the user's local language. The only effect of typing September is to make the text non-international. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 19:57, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks—just wanted to point out that it doesn't work for year ranges (which is why that format is not allowed in Wikipedia Citation Style 1 references). I imagine that's an edge case for the template, but a case nonetheless czar 21:45, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Czar: Sure it does. Use 1911-1912 instead of 1911-12. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 21:53, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
- Right, I didn't mean that it doesn't work for ranges at all, but that it has a greater chance for error & ambiguity, hence why it's barred in CS1. In any event, looks like something to take up on the template's page. czar 21:59, 31 December 2016 (UTC)

Broken bot
Ogrebot's attempts to polish some of my recent uploads have made things worse:

etc, etc. I doubt I'm the only one thus affected. Fix please? DS (talk) 15:30, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
- @DragonflySixtyseven: the page had parsing errors on it. If a page doesn't have parsing errors, OgreBot shouldn't make that edit. I believe I put that feature in (adding author to the information template) as someone's request, although I can't find it for the life of me. Was it User:Leyo maybe? Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 14:56, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
- Maybe it was me, but it must have been several years ago. If possible the script should be looking for that parameter somewhere in the page. --Leyo 21:32, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

File:Nutmeg 2.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Please restore File:Hadley-wickham2016-02-04.jpg
I do not recall having received a notice from your OgreBot about questions about the copyright on File:Hadley-wickham2016-02-04.jpg. Yesterday while providing documentation of other photos I uploaded, I found that this photo had been challenged then deleted, because I did not reply to the challenge in time. Yesterday at 9:37 AM Central time, I forwarded to "permissions-commons@wikimedia.org" an email subj: restore File:Hadley-wickham2016-02-04.jpg, in which Hadley Wickham said (deep in the text) "you can license as CC-SA."
How long should I wait to see if someone will respond to that email and either restore or tell me why not? Thanks, DavidMCEddy (talk) 03:42, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
- @DavidMCEddy: I've responded to the email you sent yesterday. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 10:33, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
- Where have you responded? I haven't seen it -- either for Wickham or for Kelton. On Dec. 30, you should have received an email from me documenting that I had permission from Wickham to release that photo of him under CC-SA and others from me and from Kelton documentation permission for the four of Kelton. File:Kelton Headshot2.jpg still claims it "is missing evidence of permission", and the photo of Wickham still seems not to have been restored. Thanks, DavidMCEddy (talk) 14:05, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
- @DavidMCEddy: I responded on January 1 at 10:32 AM UTC. I actually quoted a previous email we sent back in March. Is it possible your spam filter is picking it up? Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 04:53, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

- I've received emails 2016-12-30 addressed to me as spencer.graves@prodsyse.com from Wikimedia Commons <wiki@wikimedia.org>, subj: Secondarywaltz left you a message on Wikimedia Commons but none from you. Per that email, I sent emails to OTRS (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org) containing verbiage from my sources claiming they own those photos and are granting permission to release them under cc-by-sa for the four Kelton photos I recently added and cc-sa for Wickham.
- I just checked my spam filter and did not find anything that looked like it might have come from you.
- What should I look for? How do you want me to respond?
- I just now documented this on User talk:DavidMCEddy. What more should I do? Thanks, DavidMCEddy (talk) 14:20, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
- @DavidMCEddy: OK, it looks like there are two tickets out there. I responded to one (ticket: 2016123010010381), you are responding to the other (ticket: 2016123010010166). Secondarily, there are two email addresses involved which you appear to be using, and the one I responded to is not the one you gave above (for privacy reasons, I cannot specify the actual email address on here; is it possible that you have two email addresses, or you have one email address that links to another?).
- Yes, I incorrectly used another email address when I should have used spencer.graves@prodsyse.com with Wikipedia. I use two different email addresses for ostensibly different purposes, and I sometimes use the wrong one, as I did in this case. In responding to an email challenging photos I got from Stephanie Kelton, I noticed that the photo I got from Hadley Wickham had been deleted. Your action led to the deletion of the Wickham photo.
- How can I find an administrator or OTRS team member who deleted these photos? User:Secondarywaltz said I needed to contact an "administrator or OSTR team member who deleted" the photos. I looked but could not find how to do that. Assistance with that would be appreciated. Thanks, DavidMCEddy (talk) 00:18, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

- @DavidMCEddy: I have restored two of the Kelton photos. We are experiencing technical difficulties so I can't respond by email right now. - As for the Hadley Wickam photo, did my response sufficiently explain what we should do from here? Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:34, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

- On 2016-12-30 9:37 AM Central Time [15:37 GMT, if I'm not mistaken], I sent an email, subject: "restore File:Hadley-wickham2016-02-04.jpg", forwarding an email that I had received from Dr. Wickham, 2/4/2016 2:38 PM, in which he said, "Photo attached - you can license as CC-SA." - I've searched my all my archives back to Dec. 2014 plus my recent spam for "wikim" and "magog". That identified the 2016-02-06 email you sent: I apologize: I filed it without reading it and understanding its importance. I found other emails from "wikim", including five from user:Secondarywaltz regarding the Kelton photos, but only the one stamped 2016-02-06 discussing that Wickham photo. Thanks, DavidMCEddy (talk) 00:42, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

@DavidMCEddy: first, I've undeleted File:Kelton classroom photo.png. Second, the gist of my Hadley Wickam email is that we require a license from the copyright holder, who should email us directly. Hi.
Considering we are like oil and water and there is little trust between us, you did not think it would be prudent to ask someone else to deal with the file in question? I sought an IB against you, that shows how little I trust you, and I've done my part in avoiding you as well. I would appreciate if you would reciprocate, after this file's DR has bee resolved. Fry1989 eh? 17:55, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Fry1989: I'm sorry if you interpreted my move to be antagonistic. I absolutely did not intend it that way. I just want to hash out the discussion of the copyright status for that image, and a DR seems like a good place for it. On English Wikipedia, we renamed Files for Deletion to Files for Discussion for precisely this reason. I plan to withdraw the DR once we are able to establish that the image is no longer under copyright.
- I do not stalk you, nor will I ever stalk your contributions. However, if I come across a file whose copyright is problematic, I think it is not wise for me to just ignore it. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 18:05, 21 January 2017 (UTC)

-- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 09:14, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
:) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mindspower (talk • contribs) 08:37, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

Blocking of sock-puppets
Hello Magog the Ogre and Happy New Year, 1 hour ago I decided to check where some of my ex-contra-users gone and I've found out this, freankly speaking I was thinking that all of them had same goal and purpose. "User:Leftcry" (WhyHellWhy) was very active in making and changing of maps according to his biased POV and in his new account with name "User:Turnless" he was lying in face that he didn't know how to use special software for changing maps and etc. You can see here that I really suspected him in sock-puppetry and you see how he denied (of course). Then happened another incident with User:Gyumrilak and you may remember that my suspects arose again. Now you see (and other users proved) that all of them were sock-puppets of one user with name WhyHellWhy, here in commons there is even special category for his sock-puppets. So in the end I am going to ask if you could block those sock-puppets User:Turnless and User:Gyumrilak here as well?--g. balaxaZe★ 04:29, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Giorgi Balakhadze: I'll research this. Give me a day or so. For quicker resolution in the future, you can take your request to COM:RFCU. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:14, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Giorgi Balakhadze: they are confirmed to be the same user. WhyHellWhy is stale but the data is consistent, albeit I have very little on that sock. I see no reason not to trust the WP SPI. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 16:53, 23 January 2017 (UTC)
SPA
It seems to be a SPU. By the way, what is this? I mean, the image. Thanks in advance.--Fixertool (talk) 11:37, 23 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Fixertool: what is a SPU? And are you actually unfamiliar with the giving the middle finger? Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 16:46, 23 January 2017 (UTC)
SPA or SPU. The user was uploading and reuploading the same kind of pictures, but no problem if you consider that file is Ok. I'm just asking for a revision, and that's all.
And, of course, I'm not unfamiliar with the middle finger. But I didn't notice it was his own action, and there's no problem with that. I though it was a kind of vandalism by other account. Clearly I was utterly wrong. And I'm sorry. I didn't explain myself enough and I made an obvious mistake too, in identifying the action. Thanks and I apologize for the time you lost with this.--Fixertool (talk) 18:30, 23 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Fixertool: I had never heard the term as SPU. You don't have to apologize it was just a misunderstanding. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 19:32, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

Why did you delete the license? – EniPort (talk) 13:25, 27 January 2017 (UTC)
- @EniPort: the bot noticed the license was already present elsewhere on the page. However, it looks like it tripped up on in invalid parameter to the {{PermissionOTRS}} template. That template does not take a license parameter so you should leave it out in the future. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 17:49, 27 January 2017 (UTC)
- This wasn't a problem before, please adjust the settings of the bot to ignore the Permission row. It's often useful to see what the owner of the rights actually gave permission to as it is sometimes different to what the uploaders indicate (and they cannot see the permission, it's only visible to us). – EniPort (talk) 19:02, 27 January 2017 (UTC)
- @EniPort: the license wasn't even showing. It was dead code because it was inside a bad template parameter. I think you mistyped the row. That template has never accepted it as an argument, so think was always an issue. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 19:06, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

- @Vonlandsberg: welcome to Commons. Our policy is that an uploader should attach a copyright tag to each image. You can see instructions at COM:Licensing.
- Also, if an image comes from Flickr, you should attach {{Flickrreview}} to the page so that a bot can confirm the license.

RE: File:Bakyt Beshimov.jpg
Gracias.--FelipeRev (talk) 04:09, 3 February 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Magog the Ogre, yesterday I transferred this file from en-WIKIPEDIA to WIKIPEDIA-Commons, but this time it did not work using the "CommonsHelper" I usually use for this purpose now. It was not that this program gave any fault message (like: "incorrect author information", "insufficient licence" etc.), but it simply got stuck, even as I tried several times. So, for this time only, I used the simple transfer form again. As far as I can see, all the information of the photo file (like author, source, licence) are correct and should not cause any problems in the transfer process. Could you so please check for me whether you find any reason for what this photo should not be in WIKIPEDIA-Commons or whether maybe just the program "CommonsHelper" was faulty for some time? Many thanks in advance. Best regards --MartinHansV (talk) 09:13, 7 February 2017 (UTC)
- @MartinHansV: Yes, CommonsHelper is buggy, but I don't maintain it. Some day I hope to have a less buggy replacement for CommonsHelper. However, in the meantime, you can usually get around this problem by clearing your wmflabs cookies and trying again. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:49, 8 February 2017 (UTC)
- Many thanks for your answer. Best regards. --MartinHansV (talk) 15:25, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

Saludos. Improvement for OgreBot 2's "clean up of new upload"
Hi Magog, seems that Commonshelper which transfers files from Wiki to Commons does not properly use the {{BotMoveToCommons}} template. I already created a ticket for Magnus.[3] Since i do not expect this to be fixed the next weeks I wonder if your OgreBot 2 clean up procedure of new uploads could be extended by one single improvement (example):
original: {{BotMoveToCommons|de.wikipedia|2016|December|22}} correct: {{BotMoveToCommons|de.wikipedia|year=2016|month=December|day=22}}
Example files can be found here in the maintainance category Files moved from de.wikipedia to Commons requiring review - No timestamp given. What do you think? --Arnd (talk) 11:17, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
- Certainly, it is not restricted to de.wikipedia (see e.g. Category:Files moved from en.wikipedia to Commons requiring review - No timestamp given). --Leyo 11:48, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Aschroet, Leyo: I modified the template instead. This was much easier. I purged the cache on a bunch of the files but I can't hope to hit all of them. After some hours, I expect Mediawiki will update the categories. Beware that a few files may be in categories which were deleted. All of the files appear to be from August 2016 or later. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:43, 14 February 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you Magog the Ogre, does this template still work with named parameters as it is described on the template page? If so, i am fine with it. Leyo, what do you think? --Arnd (talk) 08:40, 18 February 2017 (UTC)

Code issues in User:Magog the Ogre/ExpandedWatchlist.js
Hi Magog the Ogre, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.
Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:
- You edited User:Magog the Ogre/ExpandedWatchlist.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
- Though, that change appears to introduce 10 new jshint issues — the page's status is now having ERRORS. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
- To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding {{ValidationOptOut|type=all}} to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!

- @Rillke: why is the bot messaging me? I clearly added jshint:ignore at the start and end so that the bot wouldn't get tripped up by the ES6 features (yes, I know Wikimedia doesn't support them; it's complicated, read the script if you want). Hello, Magog
How long we don't talk each other! I need you for a help. Two days ago, an user flagged a photo I uploaded some months ago. So, The picture is an arcade with two screens, and the screens has visible copyrighted material. I want to edit the pic on Photoshop to censor the screens, but I want to know if I could solve the problem with that and keep the picture for an article. Here's the flagged photo.
Also I want to talk about another pictures has been deleted recently, but I will do when the main problem is fixed. My regards--VictorPines (talk) 06:00, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
- @VictorPines: I love your enthusiasm, and I hate that I never have anything but bad news for you! My response: you probably need to blur the cardboard artwork over the screens as well. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 05:34, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Magog.
Today I have two little problems:
- Remember that time I was looking for your help to keep this image? Saddly, it was deleted days ago despiting your advice on the nomination discuss. Do you think if I can upload again the image, but using the edited picture? It won't be deleted again?
- Can I upload this image con Commons? It won't get any strike?
- Do you know where are the general templates to mark an image as not allowed on speed deletion? I mean, the general page of templates for any kind of maintenance of Commons for images?
My regards.--VictorPines (talk) 22:39, 14 March 2017 (UTC)
- @VictorPines:
- Apparently they decided the image was pointless as blurred. Do you have somewhere you plan to use it?
- No, that image is a derivative.
- No, we have no such template.
- Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:15, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
- Magog, about the deleted image, it was planned to show the screen positions; the upper screen displays movies and charts, while the lower one is a multi-touch panel, this last is manipulated by the player. I'm not only uploading pictures to keep images, they will have an use on articles.
- To finish, can you give me the tamplate for speed deletion? sometimes I see new poor articles with images uploaded on Commons brought with copyright.--VictorPines (talk) 00:36, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
- @Jameslwoodward: would you consider restoring this image?
- @VictorPines: you want {{Copyvio}}. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 01:40, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
- To finish, can you give me the tamplate for speed deletion? sometimes I see new poor articles with images uploaded on Commons brought with copyright.--VictorPines (talk) 00:36, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
- For the record, we are talking about Commons:Deletion requests/File:BeatStream screen display.jpg. I should start by saying that the fact that you suggested keeping the latest version at the DR made me think for a few minutes. I have more respect for your opinion than that of most of our colleagues and I don't like to cross it.
- On this kind of problem, I generally feel that we are caught between a rock and a hard place. If the image is too close to the original, then it is a dertivative work. On the other hand if it is blurred enough so that it is no longer a derivative work, then it is just a meaningless blur and therefore out of scope. I think that is the case here, and Josve5a and Mattbuck agreed with me.
- With that said, scope is not as hard a line as copyvio, so if you think the last version ought to be restored, please go ahead and do it with my blessing. . Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 11:56, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
- In that case, Can I upload it again?, (Jameslwoodward)?--VictorPines (talk) 22:29, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
- @VictorPines: if that's how you'd prefer to do it rather than a restoration, go for it. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 03:44, 16 March 2017 (UTC)
- A restoration would be great! How can I restore the picture? This will be my last question until further notice.--VictorPines (talk) 18:08, 16 March 2017 (UTC)

cleanup
Hi Magog the Ogre, there are a lot of non-standard dates that can be found with this search: [5]. Is your bot able to clean up at least some of them? Thank you in advance, --Arnd (talk) 16:54, 16 March 2017 (UTC)
- @Aschroet: that sounds pretty hard actually. I hope to open source my tools here at some point, and maybe you could set up a workspace to run them and make the changes on your own if you know how to code. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 01:48, 17 March 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, is it really? I thought it can be easily done by removing the "created" and then use the normal date cleanup as it is already implemented in your bot. But actually i could do this on my own, right? Ok, i will try to do so. --Arnd (talk) 06:04, 17 March 2017 (UTC)
- @Aschroet: It is now open sourced at https://bitbucket.org/MagogTheOgre/ogrebot. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 18:17, 19 March 2017 (UTC)

Film uploads
This user uploaded a lot of images related to a film Daddy's Daughter as own work and CC 4.0 licensing. What I'm finding about the film is clips here, apparently uploaded at YouTube by the film's creators/producers. The uploads are copies taken from them. I think there's a copyright on the film and they shouldn't be here. Thanks, We hope (talk) 16:00, 26 March 2017 (UTC)
- @We hope: I marked them as needing permission through OTRS. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 18:27, 26 March 2017 (UTC)

- @Linador: Bonjour,
- Je ne vois pas d'indication d'une licence libre dans le document. Pourriez-vous confirmer cela via COM:OTRS/fr. Cordialement, Yann (talk) 10:26, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
'Fucking' bot
Just for your information, some find your bot 'fucking'. Hopefully this user will not rollback this renomination like he did after several weird keep-closures in the past. Jcb (talk) 21:39, 1 April 2017 (UTC)
- @Jcb: I did a partial revert along with a snarky note. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 03:05, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
