For bug reports or feature requests concerning my Labs tools, please use BitBucket.
It helps me keeping track of all the requests. Beats spreading them over half a dozen talk pages ;-)
Also : If the file upload bot transfered an unsuitable image from wikipedia or Flickr, don't ask me to fix it. I don't operate the bot; I only offer it, and someone else used it.

Notification about possible deletion
[edit]Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

[edit]Copyright status: File:Louis Siriès - carnelian, in a gold ring setting.jpg
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Louis Siriès - carnelian, in a gold ring setting.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

File:Harry Banks - HARRY POTTER COOKIE JAR & BANKS IN ORIGINAL PACKAGING AS FOUND.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)
I went for a speedy request, but if this gets administratively declined, I request a standard DR with the same reasoning. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Descriptions in Artwork template
[edit]Hello, Magnus Manske. Some files you uploaded had syntax errors in the Artwork template. The problem was that a pipe character (|) was included in the description. As I'm sure you know, the pipe is used to separate parameters. The part of the description that was after the pipe wasn't a valid parameter, so the file appeared in Category:Pages using Artwork template with incorrect parameter.
I've fixed quite a few of these. An example of the fix I used can be seen here, but there may be other ways to take care of it. Please check for this when you use pipe characters in descriptions. Thanks. -- Auntof6 (talk) 06:47, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, I did not realize that pipes are used in some of the descriptions. I have now changed the upload bot to escape them properly. --Magnus Manske (talk) 08:38, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks! -- Auntof6 (talk) 08:56, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi again. It looks like this is still an issue. An example is this file, which has pipe characters in the title this time. Can you make the same fix for the title text? -- Auntof6 (talk) 11:13, 19 December 2024 (UTC)

Thank you. |

Thanks for uploading File:Eduard Stellmacher - 29440c3842.jpg.
Thank you. |

Thank you. |

Thanks for uploading File:Paul Walther - d34493fa3e.jpg.
Thank you. |

Pipe characters in recent uploads breaking Template:Artwork
[edit]Hi and thanks for the recent uploads! Could you maybe adjust the responsible code to escape pipe characters in Template:Para because those have broken Template:Artwork and the concerned cases have started to show up in Category:Pages using Artwork template with incorrect parameter. Thanks in advance, --Marsupium (int:Talkpagelinktext) 18:59, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- I am now removing pipe characters from descriptions etc., that should fix it. --Magnus Manske (int:Talkpagelinktext) 08:59, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
Please use meaningful filenames
[edit]I know you're a programmer so I kind of understand your thinking, but on the Commons we do use filenames that mean something. "d7ae996dd" is not the title or description of a painting in any language. And please don't use invaluable but the original auction sites (as long as the images are still up there in good resolution). Thanks! --Anvilaquarius (int:Talkpagelinktext) 19:05, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- I always tried to put the title in there, but due to a bug I didn't realize until now, the ID fallback was used. I have fixed this now, most artwork fould have better filenames (example). As for invaluable, I thought most images there have decent resolution for an auction site; besides, I don't know how to find the "original site" eg here, and even if I could, I would have to write scraper code for many more. On the other hand, if you know of a good site with artworks that we have a property for, please let me know, happy to add it to the scraper if it's feasible (ie not some Java magic state horror). --Magnus Manske (int:Talkpagelinktext) 09:03, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
