Demand of permission of publication

Good day,

I intend to publish a book on disability in Sierra Leone and I used a map that I find under wiki commons published by you.

I transformed it by adding the polio-homes of the city.

My publisher is afraid that the publication of this particular image does not fall under fair use. Can you tell me if I can freely use this map or if not what I should do to make the map publishable?

Either the image was created by someone else, or it is a derivative of someone else's work. As stated in Commons:Licensing, only the copyright holder may issue a license, so the one shown on Flickr is invalid. Always remember to critically evaluate Flickr licenses. Photostreams with professional-looking photographs, album covers, posters, and images in a wide range of styles or quality taken by many different cameras often indicate that the Flickr uploader either does not understand or does not care about copyright matters. The Flickr image is more than 5 year old so it’s not a question if it’s used other places but if there are sources older than 5 years. I'm not sure the templates created by the Wikimedia Foundation can be called "spam". Nevertheless there are usefull tools like Google reverse seach or TinyEye which allow the find out the date of the first publication of an image and to detect Flickr washing. @Patrick Rogel: it seems Tineye is better than Google image that I used. So I will use that in the future. The templates are created by users and not by the WMF. The reason I called it spam was because I thought the first template was misleading and when I asked you a question you just posted a new template. Thanks for the ping! Yes, that was the case. This weekend I plan to write another script to help catch instances like this and automatically update images in the bot's internal database. Anyhow, your new version is confirmed non-corrupt by my scripts (ran locally on my computer) and I have updated the bot's internal database accordingly. Thanks for the ping & apologies for the mixup; it had the old image queued and took a while to get to it evidently as there was probably an upload spike around that time and it had a lot to process. Help out with improving file pages for structured data?

Hi Michael, as you have noticed I'm adding structured data to files. I keep some notes at User:Multichill/Structured data progress. I already added some form of structured data to over 85% of the Wiki Loves Monuments uploads. In quite a few cases I'm currently unable to add the source and copyright information because {{Self}} is missing. In some cases that's correct, but in a lot of cases it can fixed. Can you help fixing it? It's usually batches of files by the same user that use the same structure. I try to be careful because I don't want to introduce mistakes here (like adding {{Self}} to a Flickr upload) so it's quite a lot of work. Example:

Hi Multichill! So the task is basicly to add "self" when there is an "own"? The trick is of course to avoid mistakes so that's why you take one user at a time because users often use a specific structure?

@1989: I did a lot of different clean up runs that day so I cant remember how I wrote the code. Most likely I let the bot work on all files in Category:John Lavery. The bot must have fixed most of the files or I would have noticed that something went wrong. @1989: Hello again! I looked at the file again and the copies I had of some of the old code I used. I think that I may have chosen to leave the review template because the author died in 1941. So there may be an URAA problem with some of the files. But I removed the template if there was a review template for file not found on Flickr.
