Categories
[edit]Hi you did this modification (you added category:Gobiidae, category:Fishes, category:Gobius, category:Gobius niger to File:Gobuis niger by Line1.jpg) which is a bad idea. This for 3 reasons
- It is forbidden to add 2 categories on the same article/category if one of those categories contains the other as category (Here category:Gobius niger is in category:Gobius => you cannot add category:Gobius).
- All images should finish in species articles (like Gobius niger) and/or species categories (like category:Gobius niger).
- Images in Family and genus categories are images put by beginners. They should be moved to species categories or "Unidentified XXX" (See category:Unidentified Gobius or category:Unidentified Gobiidae)

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 05:52, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

File:Gobuis niger by Line1.jpg
[edit]Hello my friend,
why do you sujest that File:Gobuis niger by Line1.jpg is in fact a Gobius paganellus ?
Because of the absence of "Neck scaled with a black spot in the front end of each dorsal fin" ?

Categorization Padogobius bonelli
[edit]Hi, I've seen you toke the category "Endangered species" off from the file File:Padogobius bonelli.jpg, why do you think it isn't a good categorization? Greetings from Italy! --Etrusko25 (talk) 16:57, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
- Hello my friend, I have created Category:Padogobius bonelli for your wonderful picture. I did put this cat in the precise category Category:IUCN Least Concern species.
- Then I followed the ultimate rule: don't put a category on an image (or anything else) if this image is in another cat containing the previous one.
- As Category:Padogobius bonelli is in Category:IUCN Least Concern species => File:Padogobius bonelli.jpg should not be in Category:Endangered species.
- By the ways, thanks for your photos and merry chrismas.

Hi Etrusko25,
is there some source for Salmo trutta macrostigma == Salmo cettii? Fishbase lists them as different (sub)species.
Something's quite fishy [:)] about the whole cettii/macrostigma thingy:
- You (and one of the high-quality species authors in de.WP) are explaining that S. macrostigma and S. cettii are synonyms
- Fishbase recognizes S. cettii and S.t. macrostigma (S. macrostigma is only a redirect) as distinct
- The IUCN enty of S. cettii (taxonomic notes) explains that S. macrostigma is a species endemic to Algeria though it is often used as misapplied taxon for several species.
Please enlighten me, Rbrausse (talk) 15:10, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hello Etrusko25,
- first I'd like to forbid you to excuse yourself :) - your English is definitely not worse than mine...
- thanks a lot for your detailed explanation, tomorrow I will add S.t. macrostigma as synonym for S. cettii to the description page, referenced with the book of Kottelat and Freyhof (two completely independent Wikipedia authors used this as source, I'm now convinced that fishbase.org uses outdated informations...).
- Greetings, Rbrausse (talk) 22:07, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- I tried to explain the taxonomic state in the category - could you please take a look at this? Thanks, Rbrausse (talk) 10:10, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- thank you [and every time I do something taxonomy-related (is it science? or art?) I call myself lucky that I earn my money in a completely different profession; wikipedia is only some kind of hobby :)] Rbrausse (talk) 09:18, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

Name change
[edit]Thank You for your help in aranging of the problem with Ponticola. I found several other problems, which cannot correct.
First: Look at the Category:Dasyatis kuhlii. The valide name of the species is Neotrygon kuhlii, but I cannot change the name of the category. Now it is moved to the Category:Neotrygon, but with the same name.
Second: Proterorhinus semilunaris - the picture called Proterorhinus marmoratus1.jpg really illustrates Proterorhinus semilunaris (some changings in taxonomy have a place in last years! see Proterorhinus semilunaris). I cannot change the name of the file to the correct species name.
Please correct these problems, if you can. Thank You! -- Ykvach, 22:27 21 February 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Dear Massimiliano! Would you help me? I have uploaded a File:Benthophilus.jpg, which was done by one of my colleague, not by me. I would like to include the copyright with the name of this person. How to do it? --Ykvach (talk) 11:21, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

RE: Caranx rhonchus (little girl in aquarium)
[edit]Hi there,
I did spend a fair while attempting to determine which Trachurus species they were initially; the biggest problem i ran into was the form of the lateral line; it didn't seem to match any species. So i checked C. rhonchu, and it matched quite well. The biggest annoyance with that photo is that none of their dorsals are fully extended to check for the black spot. Coupled with the fact the Barcelona aquarium lists "C. rhochus" as one of the species currently in its tank, that is why i settled on that.
Did you have a particular Trachurus species in mind? I'm still open to thoughts if you have any

Autopatrol given
[edit]Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. INeverCry 23:50, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi! I have seen your nice picture Cryptopsaras couesii.png and discovered an old discussion in the German Wikipedia: There the user User:Geaster doubted that it is a Cryptopsaras couesii and claimed that it is probably a Melanocetus johnsonii. He argued that you could not see the teeth of Cryptopsaras couesii when looking from the side. I am no biologist and I have no idea about the taxonomy of anglerfish, but I want to inform you about the objection. Are you sure about the taxon? Btw: Would you mind adding a description to the picture? It would be good to have some details (is it a fish living in the wild or does it have been captured? is there some artificial illumination or is the picture just illuminated by the fish?). I use some of your photos
[edit]Hello Etrusko25!
I use two photos of Engraulis encrasicholus from wikimedia in my free software educational proyect "Animalandia" (http://herramientas.educa.madrid.org/animalandia)
You can see directly in the follow link and click over "Siguiente" ("Next"):
http://herramientas.educa.madrid.org/animalandia/imagen.php?id=37153
There, I've attributed the images to Alessandro Duci, is this right?
The idea is to complete the "collaborator profile" of the author:

with a photo and a brief presentation.
Thank you! Fernando Lisón

Incontro tosco-ligure a fine maggio
[edit]Ciao.

Ti suggerisco Own work by original uploader
