Notification about possible deletion
[edit]Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |
Hello. Regarding your question, none of us can transfer pages or files between wikis because it is a technical obstacle that has not been solved. There was talk of transfer by bots but it closed down some years ago, although there are tools to make it look like Files can be transferred to Commons. I wish there was an easier way but there isn’t, so the only way is to reupload it to Wikipedia. When you do upload it there, let me know and I’ll double check it meets the criteria. [edit]This media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Mandy Jones AM 2018.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |

[edit]Copyright status: File:David Davies Llandinam 1944.jpg
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:David Davies Llandinam 1944.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Hi User talk:Jcb I'm wondering if you can help me? I thought I did the right thing, but clearly haven't. The photo I uploaded was taken by me this week of a painting in the Wales Center for Peace, which was founded by the man in the photo. Is this an appropriate item to put on wikipedia, if so which copyright licence do I need to apply? Littlemonday (talk) 14:27, 9 November 2018 (UTC)

File:Paul Flynn MP.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Thank you for uploading File:Mick Bates.jpg. The date in the file page is set to '21 February 2007, 00:03:35' which looks wrong, not least because it was clearly taken in daytime. Is the day correct? The time in the file is probably derived from the picture metadata set by the camera, which suggests that the date and time set in your camera was wrong – perhaps your battery had gone flat. If the date is wrong then please change it to your best estimate, using {{Circa}} if appropriate. If just the time is wrong then please delete the time. Thanks, Verbcatcher (talk) 19:11, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

No vendetta
[edit]Hi, in reply to your note at COM:VPC, please be assured that I have not taken a vendetta against your work. I also work on Wikipedia articles on Welsh topics, and when I see something that I suspect may be a copyright violation I follow it up. A while ago I nominated several of your uploads as probably violations, and the reviewing admin agreed with my assessments. Today I came across another image that you had uploaded, I remembered your user name and decided to check your other files: this is common practice, and I identified several problematic files. I note that several other editors have questioned the status of your images. I accept that you are motivated to improve Wikipedia articles, but uploading files to Commons that break its rules damages the project and make it more vulnerable to challenges by its enemies.
My two latest nominations are on the basis that they are photographs of things that are protected by copyright. Commons must consider the copyright of the thing depicted as well as that of the photographer.
I was also suspicious of three other images you uploaded. File:Huw Edwards 18.06.19 2.jpg looks like it was taken in the Senedd Building, so I wondered if it was by an official Senedd photographer. File:Elizabeth Evans (crop) 2017.png looks like a mugshot from a website, and File:James Street, Cardiff.jpg has "User comments - Screenshot" in the metadata, which often indicates a still from a video. None of these images has the metadata that is normally added by a digital camera or phone, and they are all low pixel count images. Can you assure me that you took these photographs yourself?
I'm happy to offer advice. It is often difficult to obtain acceptable photographs of living people, although this has recently become easier with MPs, MSs and peers.
Regards, Verbcatcher (talk) 22:48, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Verbcatcher
- File:Huw Edwards 18.06.19 2.jpg was taken in the Senedd and it was taken by me at this event last year: https://www.gorwel.wales/?p=3528 If you're quetsioning me, tell me how I can prove that? Forgive me but it does seem as though your questioning everything I've uploaded.
- I am a Lib Dem member and took a photo of Elizabeth Evans whilst sat next to Jane Dodds at a Welsh Party hustings in the summer/autumn of 2016 (I can work out the exact date if you'd like).
- With regards to the statue in Luxembourg I took that on holiday two years ago, the fact I need to wait for the 90 year old sculpture to die (if he hasn't already) before using it is frankly in my opinion ridiculous, but 'them the rules I guess' and you're set about enforcing them.
- The photo of James Street in Cardiff (you've probably guessed I live here) was taken by me in as part of an instagram video which I quite liked and only after that did I think it would be a good photo to upload here.
- If you want to help and proof to me that you're not just removing my work, this photo: https://www.flickr.com/photos/plaidcymru/30353145082/in/photolist-NfcNxC-c2NuHm-4Zfwaf-4Zfvij-4ZfuVS-4Zbi2t-4Zbfki-akBKgB-6p2r7U-29bgzt-6oXhUK-6p2r69-29fGm9-29fEcC-7MRS5J-61uNpr-6maumq-61yHqN-5ZwhdD-5ZAtzq-5Zwgft-bXUNxo-dBJjsk-69SB2G-5vpiAq-61yS6L-6teHxV-6nVKSD-6tiRF3-6py7A8-6tiRyd which you deleted is of a deceased man. Could you help me properly attribute that photo in line with the rules?
- Thank you for your reassurances about these images. I wasn't asking for proof, I asked because you seem to be a reasonable person who would probably acknowledge if they had made a mistake. To avoid unnecessary copyright challenges it is often better to initially upload the original uncropped image with its camera metadata, and then upload a cropped version. I did this at File:Ely Cathedral from Quanea Drove H.jpg (where I replaced the uncropped version) and at File:Ashley Riches 2009 (cropped).jpg (where I uploaded the crop as a new file).
- If you can work out when you took the photographs (and the original video) then please add this to the file pages.
- Luxembourg's copyright rules are made by the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies. We don't just have to wait for the sculptor to die, we have to wait for 70 years after that, see COM:LUXEMBOURG. Similar laws apply in several countries including France and Italy, see Commons:Freedom of panorama. Before Brexit you could have asked your MEP to lobby for a change, but they would they been unlikely to succeed.
- The photo of Eurig Wyn and Dafydd Wigley cannot be hosted on Commons because Plaid Cymru have licensed it with 'CC BY-NC-ND 2.0'. The problematic terms are 'NonCommercial' and 'NoDerivatives', see Commons:Licensing. (These are indicated by the crossed-out dollar sign and the equals sign on the Flickr page.) It would be good to persuade Plaid to change the licensing of their Flickr images to allow them to be on Wikipedia. As Eurig Wyn has died, we could upload a crop of this image to English and Welsh Wikipedias as a non-free fair-use file. However, if we are uploading a non-free picture of Eurig Wyn then we should choose a better photo, such as one from these pages:[1][2][3]
- The rules and guidelines for Wikipedia non-free content are given in w:en:Wikipedia:Non-free content and w:en:Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline, and their equivalents in Welsh Wicipedia. However, rather than starting from these pages, most editors probably adapt the non-free rationale from an existing file. Mine are listed here. If you're stuck I'd be happy to help.
- There are no simple solutions to the issue of obtaining photos of AMs from the 1999-2003 Assembly. You could try persuading the Senedd to release photographs under free licenses, but this might require them to relicense the photographs from the photographers. You could approach the individuals or their parties for free images, but it is very difficult to establish licences for photos that you have received from third parties. Otherwise, try to take a picture in a public place, as you have already done for other politicians.
- I might have been wrong in my assessment of the old National Assembly for Wales photographs as unacceptable, which is why I asked at the Village Pump. If nothing persuasive appears there or at my initial nomination then I plan to nominate the others for deletion.
- Thank you for not taking umbrage at my challenging you about the three photographs, which may have been a little clumsy.
- Regards, Verbcatcher (talk) 19:58, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
