First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki ‒ it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], which produces: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper
Made a mistake?
  • Did you want to rename or move a file? Simply upload the file again and mark the old one like this: {{bad name|Correct name}}
  • For more information read the full Deletion guidelines
(P.S. Would you like to provide feedback on this message?)

Swine flu

[edit]

Hello, after talking with a wikipedia more acquainted with Virus and the Swine flu, I had to hide Nausea and vomiting, which are not in the source for pigs. Afterwhat, thanks for your translation, that's nice to see that my work is use ! :] Yug (talk) 23:36, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, please point me to the "non commercial" restriction that is contradicting the license text and triple license MPL 1.1/GPL 2.0/LGPL 2.1. Maybe I am missing here something, thank you --Justass (talk) 22:32, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to look at Commons:Trademarks, in short - Commons doesn't care about trademark restrictions as long as there is no copyright violations and this is the case, logo is releases under acceptable licenses --Justass (talk) 22:39, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:Google Chrome wordmark.png

[edit]

Hola, he revertido a la imagen anterior en File:Google Chrome wordmark.png, ya que el pequeño loguito de Chrome esta bajo derechos de autor. Saludos --by Màñü飆¹5 talk 06:45, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:Google_Chrome_wordmark.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Captura Explorer

[edit]

Alakasam (talk) 23:15, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dont think it is spoofed, the template is a copy of the en.wp version en:Template:PD-PRGov-OfficialPortraits. But I doubt tht the uploader understood its meaning, it is only for images of portraits found in the Capital Building of Puerto Rico. Thats reporductions of paintings one can see on the walls inside of this building. Nothing else, no other portraits. The template creator/importer appears to think it applies to random portraits from other sources. --Martin H. (talk) 20:11, 9 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!!/Haloo!!/Holaa

[edit]

Obviously, if I understand you in English. I did not like the tone you used to tell me. Do not worry, it does not need clarification. I noticed that some people find my contributions to the wikimedia commons are not valued and not very well regarded by many ... wikipedia is not a "free encyclopedia" as he says so. I think that I will not contribute more. Anyway thank you very much for the clarification. By the way Colombia is a country very friendly congratulations! have a wonderful country. --Coronades (talk) 00:26, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just to let you know, I've suitably resized the SVG file in the relative area of the MS Office articles.

I've also replaced all instances of the PNG file used on global projects, with the preexisting SVG file.

Speedy delete was requested for the PNG file. Thanks. Editor182 (talk) 13:28, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio tags

[edit]

Hallo Linfocito B, thanks for your being watchful - however the {{copyvio|Not likely "own work" (no metadata, no EXIF, low res...)}} tag at File:Residentecalle13-1.jpg is not correct. Copyvio tags should only be used in clear cases that enable a deletion directly - without research by the admin. That is not the case here. The user claimed it is "Own work" and put his name as author. Please do some more research and / or start a deletion request (how to: Help:nominate for deletion). Such wrong copyvio tags are a reason why the deletion of real obvious copyvios takes several weeks currently. Thank you! Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 14:59, 2 March 2012 (UTC) An example: File:Soledadfandiño1.jpg - also from this user. :-) --Saibo (Δ) 15:09, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Warning sign
This media was probably deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Arauca (escudo).png. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Arauca (escudo).png]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Hello Linfocito B, the following content you uploaded violates one or more of our policies and therefore has been or will soon be deleted:

File:Arauca (escudo).png

The Wikimedia Commons (this website) only hosts media files with a realistic educational purpose and that can be used for any purpose, including:
  • use in any work, regardless of content
  • creation of derivative works
  • commercial use
  • free distribution

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.

Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial, to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions.

Yours sincerely, Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 08:09, 13 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
