User talk:Kurt Leyman~commonswiki
Welcome!
Hello, Kurt Leyman~commonswiki, and welcome to Wikimedia Commons. I hope you like it here and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- First steps - will tell you everything you need to know about how to upload, what licenses are OK and what information to include in your image summary
- Babel guide - Commons is truly international, here's how to handle some multilingual issues
- Commons FAQ - has some answers to common Commons questions
- The Community Portal - help us organise and improve our files
- A Gallery of your images - please correct any that are untagged or orphans (put them in a category)
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Commoner! If you haven't already done so, you might also want to open an account on a Wikipedia in your preferred language, or one of the other Wikimedia projects. Please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date. If you have any questions, drop a note on the village pump, the Help desk, or contact an administrator. I look forward to your contributions!

Image Tagging Image:Panzerfaust6.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Panzerfaust6.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL-self to release it under the GFDL or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and or licensing of this particular file. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? Thank you.--Who's the author? When was it created? "Recieved from my friend via MSN Messenger" isn't any more of a source than "Found on a Google image search". Also, I don't believe this is an inartistic photograph: that usually means things like mug shots and passport photos. --Carnildo 18:13, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Image deletion warning | Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Messerschmitt Bf 109G-2.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |

This image is probably a press release photo from the Finnish Defence Forces website, modified at defencetalk.com. There is no evidence that the file has been freely licenced or that it would be part of official statement or decision. Thus, the current copyright template PD-FinlandGov is unapplicable and the file should be deleted. --MPorciusCato 07:42, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Not-so-quick answer
[edit]Hello, and firstly, sorry for not answering so long – I haven't been to the Commons for some time, so I couldn't see your message. As far as I see, this picture is licenced under the terms of Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial (CC-BY-NC), and according to Commons:Licensing:
Common examples of licensing statuses commonly found on the Internet, but forbidden on Commons, include Creative Commons Non-Commercial Only (-NC) licenses.
I'm afraid you cannot upload this picture to the Commons, as long as you get the author's permission to use it under the terms of other licences, acceptable here. See Commons:Licensing for more information. Regards, odder 13:29, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:00, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Kurt Leyman. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Kurt Leyman~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
Community Liaison, Wikimedia Foundation

Greetings! Will you back me up in deletion request? I could really use your help. This file is hanging here just because of one man's stubbornness. But I am sure we have enough expertise to fight this stubbornness. The cause is just. Sincerely, --Kwasura (talk) 18:01, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
