Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki ‒ it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Pay attention to copyright | File:Snowplow1968TB.jpg has been marked as a copyright violation. Many countries have exemptions for the photography of copyrighted buildings and artwork located in public places in local copyright law, generically known as "freedom of panorama". However, the country you took this photograph in does not have similar laws (making it an unauthorized derivative work), or whose laws restrict usage in ways that are incompatible with our licensing policy (such as restrictions on commercial use). Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content, that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. For a country-by-country breakdown of Freedom of Panorama laws, you may find Commons:Freedom of Panorama useful. You can ask questions about Commons policies in Commons:Help desk. The file you added will soon be deleted. If you believe this image is not a copyright violation, please explain why on the image description page.

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 15:04, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

File:Snowplow1968.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

milwaukee public art NRHP & WLM
[edit]i saw your comment on Smallbones' talk page. yes, for wikiloves monuments contest, it should be on the National Register of Historic Places listings in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. (note the simplified upload process). the idea was to make it easy; the copyright tangle is hard for newcommers. psst, you can upload architectural details or WPA art, for example Central Library. perhaps your students would be interested in the architecture too. - Thanks! I guess they've also made it easy by excluding a ton of actual monuments from view. We will work around! --Jgmikulay (talk) 15:16, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
- i'm with you - the public art lists, and state monuments need work too. this contest is a good excuse for a meetup field trip. we're uploading in coffee shops & bars in d.c. [1].
- btw, they're talking about a new public art table format using the template Public art row [2]
- consider it a chilling effect. "Here's How Copyright Laws Impoverish Wikipedia". [3]; [4] Slowking4⇔ †@1₭ 13:21, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

- Thanks for noticing! My Alverno College students will be creating 14 or so more videos in April/May. Any requests? I also have a nice one of my own illustrating earthworms in a garden to add. Jgmikulay (talk) 16:35, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
