rename the file please

Please rename or delete the file, the file has the name "...боевиков ..." in Russian, which means almost "terrorists", this file was taken from the website of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. In the photo, these are Ukrainian soldiers. Correct would be "File:Выход украинских военнослужащих из Азовстали 001.png". You don't need to leave a redirect. Hello @Rtfroot: , I'm no admin, so I can't delete files, only rename them. I only see one rename from me and when translate it, I don't see something that means terrorist, or something like that. I can only 'don't leave' a redirect in some cases. An admin can do more. You can better report that user. I'm not gonna rename those files, I don't know enough about it. Did you talk to the user who uploaded this files, with this name, or who requested a change? I don't see it. This is my talkpage, I would like to help other users, but this is not the right place, and also I'm too busy to figure that out. @Ceescamel: Ik had even niet bij 'nieuwe artikelen' gekeken, maar zie veel bruggen. Als het wat warmer is, ga je dan weer op de fiets foto's maken, want ik zie inderdaad september.. Of doe je dat nu ook? Ik neem alleen nog foto's als ik toevallig ergens kom of alleen bij hoge uitzondering dat ik ergens heen ga. Het is jammer dat ik minder in dat gebied kom, wat jij weet. Ik ga dat niet overal neerzetten. Zaterdag weer, maar ik heb weinig tijd om andere dingen te doen. IK heb hier een af te werken lijst, dus ik ben er constant mee bezig. Afgelopen maanden was het geen fietsweer, maar vorige week zaterdag kon het weer even. Ook gisteren weer op pad. Eindelijk die foto genomen van dat gebouw aan de Haarlemmerdijk, waarvan de eersten mislukt waren. Maar ik ging eigenlijk speciaal voor een knoepert van een muurschildering, waarvan in september melding werd gemaakt, maar toen ik er kwam was alleen de grondverf aangebracht. Mocht je weer eens in de Bijlmer zijn. Op het Bijlmerplein 100 of 110 is OSCAM gevestigd en daar kan weel fotootje bij, blijf bezig he.Ceescamel (talk) 08:47, 18 March 2023 (UTC)

You're welcome. I mean with 'I don't check every rename', that I don't check them deeply, mostly I know the requester or the work. Hi, thank you for responding to the rename request. At that time I was not aware that it was a duplicate too. So when I found out, I thought the lower quality image should be deleted. For my learning purpose, please help to answer my hypothetical question. Lets assume this was a standalone picture with no duplicate on commons. In such a situation, that title would have needed to be corrected. So what would I need to do to get it done. I am asking if I find a similar situation in future. Yes, I nominated it for deletion as it was duplicate. I wanted to discuss to understand and make sure that the decline was due to the deletion nomination. The reason for decline gave me an impression that the decline was done on the lack of merit for a rename. So I came to discuss and understand what the real issue was. To keep the IA code, I learned from some admins and/or filemovers, when I was new as filemover. When I forgot, I got a message on my talkpage. It's not in the guidelines, but I decline it, because of the reasons I just gave. But why the message? I decline that sort of request for years now, although it's not every week. Just like criterion 1. Criterion 1 is free for the original uploader, but that doesn't mean they can change it to whatever they want, like adding "I made better photographs", etc. or requesting to name it to "nothing special.jpg" :) - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 21:45, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

A better example is a file from Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. There is a unique code, that's added by the mass-uploader(s). I know a user who knows a lot about these files, and if someone renames a file from (the) Rijksmuseum and deletes the code, they get a message from this user to please don't do that. Just a question

Hi Richardkiwi, you have carried out quite a lot of renamings for me, mostly improvements of other people's files, some based on my own typing mistakes - thanks again. I am just interested if for the renamings in other Wikipedia projects (and on Commons as well) after you changed a file name, do you have a script or the like, or is that done manually? Hi @Pittigrilli: , thanks, it's semi-automatic, so CommonsDelinker does that, or it goes automatically with my Username (when it are only a few renames). So it overwrites it, but there are Wiki's where you can still upload files, without moving them to Commons. There it is possible a name conflicts with a filename here, but the name here must be the main name. As far as I know, there are global renamers too, who can rename on almost every wiki, when a file is not on Commons. / But I can't really give a good answer to your question, only that when I press the button, I mostly don't have to do more, except when something goes wrong and a file is 'lost'. Mostly that's a redirect that should not be there, or something. So I don't have a script or something. Maybe I give a lot of information, or perhaps you still have a question. Hello, the name itself, Φεντερασιόν, doesn't mean anything at all in Greek as it's clearly a French one. At the same time, as one can easily see from the text on the logotype itself, the use of the French full name of this organization isn't inaccurate at all but rather a truthful representation of both the organization itself and the situation of the local Jewish community of Salonica back then (consisting mostly of French speaking Sephardites). About request to change date on Led Zeppelin photo

Concerning the request I made to change the title of the photo of Led Zeppelin [File: Ledzeppelin posterpelo 1972.jpg]. I'll try to find a source to back for that exact photo, but I don't know why that should be necessary when it is obvious common public knowledge. Most people familiar with Led Zeppelin or rock history would quickly notice the inaccuracy in the date title of the photo right away. Like the Beatles, the evolution of Led Zeppelin's appearance over the course of their years is well known in the public mind. For instance, most people will quickly recognize the difference in a photo taken the Beatles in 1966 and one taken two years later in 1968. Even if a reliable source mislabeled the 1966 photo as 1968, Wiki editors would quickly filter out the mistake and not take it literally or try to present it as such. I realize that this may seem like splitting hairs over a silly photo, but at Wikipedia we must be accurate in what we present to the public.

Using reliable sources is important, yes, but we as editors also have to make reliable judgments as well. Just because a source is reliable doesn't mean that it is infallible and we have to know how to use discernment. Just because the photo appeared in a publication in 1972 does not mean that it was necessarily taken that year (I highly doubt that the 1972 source made the claim that the group was "pictured in 1972" and if they did, they were mistaken).

I do have a CNN as a reliable source for other photos with years mentioned in the captions. Please notice the obvious difference in the way the group looked in 1968 (at the top) vs. 1972 (live at the Forum).[2]. Please note the group's appearance on the back of their debut album released in Jan. 1969 [3] vs. 1972 [4]. These differences are easy to recognize and can be corroborated with numerous other photos with years mentioned in a host of reliable sources.

I think that there is sufficient reason to doubt the accuracy of the year in the title of the photo in question.

Before my request to change the date in the photo was denied, there could have been an open forum for a sufficient amount of time to discuss the issue. While, I think that it was premature to deny my request, I also realize that it may have been premature to change the year to quickly. If it would not have been possible to put a different year in title, then perhaps the best solution would have been to just take out any mention of year in the photo. That is probably where the discussion would have led and I think that a consensus would have come to that. I think that idea would be an acceptable compromise, and I ask you to consider just taking the year out of the title. Garagepunk66 (talk) 00:02, 9 June 2023 (UTC)

Nouwen with a boy

Hi Richardkiwi, thanks for changing the date on the picture of my son Andriy with the famous author Henry Nouwen. I decided to post that particular picture for the head picture in the Ukrainian article about Henry Nouwen because it was widely spread before: it is on the leaflet of the Henry Nouwen Stichting, it was published in some of his books. It is in the last book published in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Diaries, where Henry Nouwen himself writes about his memorable visit to my house etc. Moreover, that book, compiled, obviously long time after Henry's dead, contains dedication on the first page to my son Andriy and another young man with intellectual disability, Andriy Shulyha. Files renaming

Hello, thank you for renaming the image of Château Batailley ! Could you also rename all the files in the category Les vins de Bordeaux (Charles Lallemand) ? All of them has a wrong data as Les vins de Bordeaux was publish after 1866, probably in 1868. Even more : all this files are used in fr-wiki with a wrong description. Muurschildering versus "mural" Amstelstation

Hoi Richardwiki, ik zie dat je mijn bewerking muurschildering hebt terug gedraaid met de reden Dat bepaal ik zelf. Wikiepedia wordt met zijn allen gemaakt. Je werkt op de Nederlandstalige Wikipedia en dan gaat de voorkeur uit naar de Nederlandse taal. Mural is geen Nederlands woord ook al wordt het door sommige mensen gebruikt. I am admin in the german wikisource and I am currently active in the project „Die Gartenlaube“, where a lot of file moving has to be done, because it was uploaded inaccurately, often years ago. Hi, it's no problem for me (and others, I think). So don't worry. To become filemover, you have to do a lot of requests (I assume you already did). I admit I don't know Kirkland from Clinton, but the listings for Charlie's Place Diner on Facebook, TripAdvisor, and "MenuPix" all say the diner is located in Clinton, New York. Are they not correct?

Hi MrKeefeJohn, that's not possible. You can revert to the first picture and then upload your file separate and give it the name you want. I don't know if you get an automatic warning that the file already excists, but you can try. With my rename bit, I can't do what you ask. If the original name must be changed, you can do a normal rename request. You can give a message here, if you've done the request, but I'm not so much online as I was before. Bedankt, dat uploaden ging gisteren mis toen ik in een keer 20 afbeeldingen van zo'n 5 MB wilde downloaden van Flickr, waaronder een die er al stond hier. Misschien is er daardoor een rode vlag gehesen ergens. Nu kan ik ook niet meer een enkele afbeelding uploaden van m'n computer of van Flickr. In de zoekfunctie heb ik gezocht of ergens m'n gebruikersnaam in een actueel bestand zag staan. Dat was wel zo, maar niets hieromtrent. Question about renaming file

Hello! I hope it's alright to write you here. I have a question, I requested a renaming of some files related to K Alexander because they include their deadname, such as this one: File:Fan Expo Canada 2015 - Kaitlyn (20875925073).jpg. The reason given for the declined request was that it does not comply with renaming guidelines, but I'm not sure I understand. How would I go about changing it? Or does their pictures have to keep their deadname?

Hello/hi, after searching, doubting and asking a little, and watching this: I've seen the Wikipedia-pages of K Alexander. Some wikis still use the 'old' name. I will give you the benefit of the doubt and rename the files I've declined. Don't forget it's not an easy decision, "I'm" Lgtbiq+ myself, but don't want to be pushed into a box.
