I would like to use this photo but when I add to a page, a different image appears. Could someone helpme? Gilabrand
- That's because there's another image with the same name at the English Wikipedia. Wikipedias always check for a file uploaded locally before checking at Commons. I made a request to rename the file at En. Wikipedia. Once the rename is done there, you'll able to use this image. -- Orionist ★ talk 18:17, 24 November 2010 (UTC)\
- Thanks! How will I know when the renaming is complete?--Gilabrand (talk) 20:27, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
- You can go to the file page at w:File:Jaffa_Oranges.jpg and add it to your watchlist (at English Wikipedia, of course). -- Orionist ★ talk 20:54, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

- Good news! The blocking image was moved to a new name and now you can use File:Jaffa_Oranges.jpg freely on English Wikipedia! Regards. -- Orionist ★ talk 13:46, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 11:01, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

RE: Uploading a photo
[edit]Hi Gilabrand. Your question was:
"A photo I once uploaded of Mordechai Rotenberg which I used with the permission of his family was deleted. He has now sent me an explicit e-mail authorizing its use. How do I go about restoring it or uploading it again?"
Well, first you need to forward that e-mail to: permissions-commons@wikimedia.org to put it on the OTRS system. Then go to Commons:Undeletion requests and make a new request for your deleted image, mentioning that you've sent an e-mail to the OTRS. Processing the e-mail should take 3-4 days maximum, if it takes more than that you can inquire on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard. Remember that the permission e-mail should clearly state that the image is released into one or more of the free licenses we use on Commons (any one will do, including release into Public Domain) as this is a requirement to accept the image. Good luck! Regards, -- Orionist ★ talk 16:41, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
Photos of interior, Yad Kennedy
[edit]Hi, Gilabrand! Your photos are great (and the shakshuka photo makes me feel very hungry!). As you know, I've been working on the article for Yad Kennedy, and can't find any usable photos of the inside of the memorial, such as the bust, eternal light, memorial wall, etc. I know it's not easy to get to from Jerusalem (except by car) but if you ever decide to take a trip to visit, please consider taking some photos and uploading them. (In the old days, the memorial was always open for visitors, but my impression is that you might need to make advance arrangements with KKL-JNF to get inside these days....) Anyway, I'm hoping to visit Israel in December, so if I don't find photos before then, I'll try to take them myself. However, when I take photos, I use my cellphone camera, so the results are NOT as beautiful as yours. (You and Yoninah seem to take the best Israel photos!) Best wishes, NearTheZoo (talk) 11:50, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
- Blush, blush. Glad you like my pictures. About the Kennedy memorial, I will ask someone I know if he has photos of the interior.--Gilabrand (talk) 12:09, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

Bat Yam photos dating
[edit]Shalom,
You uploaded several Bat Yam images dated to August 2020. The dates seem to be wrong - no masks even though COVID restrictions are in place and a kindergarten in the middle of "Hahofesh Hagadol". Please fix the dates on those images, thanks, DGtal (talk) 10:57, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
