Reminder: Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2016 is open!
[edit]You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2016 Picture of the Year contest.
Dear Geertivp,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2016 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eleventh edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2016) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category.
In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 20 April 2017, 23:59:59 UTC.
Thanks,
--Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 08:42, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Erudimus qui custodient terrae fertilitatem.jpg
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Erudimus qui custodient terrae fertilitatem.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

I have uploaded the file about Commons I showed you last week : File:Présentation Commons FR.pdf. I was a little bit late because I had troubles with the design: this was probably not a free design, and I had to modify it. I have some corrections to do on the file about Wikipédia in French and I will upload it soon. Groetjes, .Anja. (talk) 10:13, 15 March 2018 (UTC)

Vraagje

Probleem opgelost. Geertivp (talk) 17:55, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

Using your photo in research
[edit]Hi Geert,
Is it ok if I use your photo in my master thesis? Specifically a crop of File:Sally V and Geert Van Pamel chatting at the Wiki Loves Heritage 2018 Flanders award ceremony (DSCF7872).jpg. My research focuses on image denoising with neural networks (CNN and cGAN), and I put an emphasis on human faces because they often resulted in overly smooth or unrealistic skin textures, this photo is one of the best examples I have.
Best,
Benoit

- Please read the description and historical usage:The Sacrifice block in the steam engine control house of the Taylor's Shaft East Pool mine. A sacrifice wooden block was used as an audible protective and alarm mechanism to immediately notify the operator of a mine water pumping installation when too much steam would be applied at low power pumping conditions. In order to prevent machine breakdown, the operator would then immediately shut down or reduce the steam inflow. It was designed by Nicholas Trestrail. See also the section "Global usage". Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!
[edit]Hello,
Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at Wikimedia Commons.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!
From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.
If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.
Thank you!

Study shows Wiki Love Africa recruitment makes a difference
[edit]Hello Geertivp
We are writing because you have participated in the Wiki Loves Africa (WLA) photo competition in the past. Results have been published and winning pictures may be seen here !
This year WLA partnered with the research organization CAT Lab (previously CivilServant) to help us evaluate the effectiveness of one of our recruitment efforts. You may or may not have received a message on your user talk page encouraging you to participate again in this year's competition.
We are excited to share with you their study found our recruitment message was a success and may have resulted in as many as 2,000 additional contributed photos. We hope you agree this is great news for Africa and its representation across Wikimedia. You can read more about the study and the results in this blog post.
If you have any questions about the study, we encourage you to ask CAT Lab's research manager Juliakamin(cs).

ISA
[edit]Hello. I saw you tried to create a campaign (https://isa.toolforge.org/campaigns/195) earlier on. But there was a bug for campaign creation, which has been patched today. I just tested and the patch works. You are welcome to go back there. Go to your campaign, click on "Edit the campaign » and at the bottom, near the save button, there is a checkbox to « force the image importation ». Normally, if you check that, and save, the upload process will start. Hope it will help !
On another note... we opened recently the translation in more languages. If you wish to participate, this may be done here : https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Translating:ISA
Thanks !

Wiki Loves Africa 2022
- concours international : Commons:Wiki Loves Africa 2022

Geert Van Pamel (talk) 19:32, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
Category:Featured_pictures_from_Wiki_Loves_Heritage_Belgium_in_2022 has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2022 voting is open!
[edit]Read this message in your language
Dear Wikimedian,
You are receiving this message because we noticed that you voted in Round 1 of the 2022 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in the second round. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
In this second and final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2022.
Round 2 will end at UTC.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Wiki Loves Monuments 2023 in Belgium
[edit]Hello Geertivp, On the list of participating countries you are listed as the organiser of Wiki Loves Monuments 2023 in Belgium that is supposed to start at 1 September. Looking at Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2023/Landing pages, I see there is no landing page yet for Belgium. If there is no landing page, the contest cannot start in your country. If you are still looking for a good design, have a look at this example or this one, and see this page for instructions what you need to put on the landing page. Please add your landing page to the list of landing pages. If there is no landing page available for Belgium at midnight, Wiki Loves Monuments in Belgium will be postponed or cancelled. Greetings - Romaine (talk) 07:10, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- I have published the landing page at Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2023/Landing pages. Geert Van Pamel (talk) 14:12, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- Great that there is a landing page now. As the people in Flanders speak Dutch and in Wallonia French, when will the page be translated to these languages? Thanks! Romaine (talk) 14:26, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- It is already done now... Geert Van Pamel (talk) 15:28, 31 August 2023 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Monuments 2023
[edit]Bonjour, Photos from Luxembourg, can be also submitted during Wiki Loves Monuments in Belgium, or are they not part of the competition? Thank you for your reponse :) Have a nice day! Tournasol7 (talk) 14:24, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- In the far past Luxembourg has indeed been part of the Belgium campaign. I don't have contacts with the Luxembourg Wikimedia team. If there is no separate campaign for Luxembourg, then for me it is OK that you upload Luxembourg images to the Belgium campaign, of course. You are welcome. Montage + WLM 2023 in Belgium
[edit]Hey Geert! Just wanted to let you know I just deployed a fix to Montage which should allow you to load that google sheet with the entries. Thanks for your patience! --MahmoudHashemi (talk) 17:28, 3 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks @MahmoudHashemi -- yesterday evening I added extra Page Categories to the images as a workaround to merge the campaigns into one single category. Did you also fix the jpg disqualify problem? It was not possible to include jpg images in a file upload, because only jpeg was accepted by the file interface. It worked with the category interface though. Geert Van Pamel (talk) 06:50, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- Got it, that's a good workaround. I could use more detail on the JPG vs JPEG issue. If you have a GitHub account, can you file an issue with reproduction info here? Thanks! MahmoudHashemi (talk) 16:46, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- I have created a GitHub issue. Problem should be easily solved. Geert Van Pamel (talk) 09:39, 6 October 2023 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Monuments 2023 winners
[edit]Dag Geert,
Geert Van Pamel (talk) 09:52, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
- Dank je wel voor de informatie. Mvg. --H2O(talk) 10:32, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
Category:Université du Travail, Gramme building is not BPS22
[edit]Bonsoir, Hallo,
This is a photo of a monument in Wallonia, number: 52011-CLT-0072-01
|
.
Merci d'avance. --H2O(talk) 21:48, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
