Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Croatian translations for the upload form

I've installed them all. At User:Ex13/hrtranslation, I've marked a few messages that are still missing. Maybe you could do these, too?

The problem with the hrownwork and similar forms should be solved for the sidebar messages (though there may be caching issues; maybe these sidebar links will update only in a day or two). However, I have no idea yet why the form itself is sometimes presented in English. I'm still investigating. Lupo 09:26, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Croation translations needed

Hi! I contact you as you speak English and Croatian.

Jastrow and I are working on autotranslating {{Meta information museum}}, the meta-template we use for many museums, like {{Information Louvre}}. Could you please help us find Croatian translations for every tag name:

   * artist/maker
   * description
   * dimensions
   * credit line
   * accession number
   * location
   * source/photographer
   * references
   * other versions

"Credit line" is mainly about the mode of acquisition: what collection does it come from? Did it join the collections by gift, purchase, on loan, etc.?

The reason that there is a redirect on this page is that the image was in Category:Universally replaced by CommonsDelinker, and if you look at that category you will see that the instructions to Admins say and redirect the deleted file to the remaining version. This was my first time working on these files as an Admin and I suppose I should have specified the reason for the redirect in the edit summary. I have removed the delete tag from the redirect page. Images of Croatian coins and banknotes

Hello Ex13. I've read before requesting for the deletions the reproduction of croatian money, but this is from 2002, and the Copyright Act from the Bank is from 2007. Moreover, I had to ask for written permission to the NBC and I'm waiting its approval to use the pictures in the Spanish article about Croatian kuna. If these users haven't got specific permission from the Bank to publicate in Commons its copyvio --Manu (talk) 10:00, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Lepoglava

Hi, just by curiosity but, I was checking the article of the city of Lepoglava and I saw it's flag. I foudn it interesting, considering that its a crown and in the XVI century, János Corvinus the son of the hungarian king moved to that city and recosntructed a couple of monasteries for battling the turkish invations. Bok! Zanima me zašto kad u corelu iscrtam grb i odlučim ga exportati u svg oblik tako da obuhvatim samo grb (bez ikakve pozadine) dobijem ovaj rezultat [1] ili možda malo bolji slučaj je ovdje [2], dok se ovdje [3] kockice (sivo-bijele) vide tek minimalno (posljednji rad nije moj). Oznake državnih cesta

Bog!

Vidim da je napravljen revert verzije prometnog znaka D200. Vidim da si sam napravio i praktično sve ostale, pa sam se možda trebao javiti prije izmjena boje tih znakova, ali evo bar ovako sa zakašnjenjem.

Promjenu boje napravio sam tako da odražava boju prikazanu u http://narodne-novine.nn.hr/clanci/sluzbeni/dodatni/314287.htm - do sada su postavljene izmijenjene slike D1-D128, ostali bi trebali biti postavljeni za dan ili dva, tako da trenutačno neujednačeni prikaz ne bi trebao trajati duže od toga.

Adding OTRS permission tag

Hello, I;ve noticed that you have added {{OTRS}} tag to Jelacicplac.jpg with a wrong ticket ID. As the license was wrong to (per OTRS ticket 2011022110005449), so the image has been deleted. Please do not use OTRS tags unless you are an OTRS agent. That will create confusion, and also it's not eligible for non-OTRS users. I'm pretty much fed-up with your disruption, Ex13. Kindly cease reverting obvious improvements to existing images made by people you hold grudges against from enWiki. Images are improved everywhere, and I will not have you reverting every edit I make on the fake pretext that "I should post a new image". No. The image is in widespread use and I intend to improve it, by posting a new one I would not be fixing the error everywhere where that is necessary. That's not "overwriting", its the same image - just better. Important message for file movers

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

• To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
• To perform file name swaps.
• When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. File usage issue

Hi, following the most recent advice on my English Wikipedia talk page and after experiencing some issues I decided to let you know about some inaccuracies in the File:Vukovar-Srijem County OpenStreetMap.svg. When I try to use it for locations in the region (by inserting coordinates) it seems to me that there is not that insignificant mistake of some 2 km or similar. Once coordinates are inserted, the location presented on the map would end up west of the actual location. I am not sure how to address the issue, but if you know and you have time and interest I wanted to let you know.--MirkoS18 (talk) 15:14, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
