[edit]In en:Image:Gaelic-font-Corcaigh.png you have a "gh" instead of a "g" w/ a dot above. Was this intentional, or simply an oversight? TShilo12 01:46, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
- Intentional. Evertype 10:23, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
Did you really make the original version of that book cover, or did you just scan it in? In the latter case, you are not the author in any relevant sense, while even in the former case it still might be work-for-hire, with the copyright owned by Addison-Wesley. AnonMoos 16:48, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
- I am one of the authors of the actual book itself. The Unicode article was showing the Unicode 4.0 book cover. (I'm one of the authors of Version 4.0 too.) I assure you every one of the authors and the Consortium (of which I am a member) and Addison-Wesley (which does not own the copyright, the Consortium does as you can see on the copyright page of the book) is happy to have this image on the Wikipedia in preference to the image for 4.0. Evertype 10:22, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
- Being one of over a dozen authors/editors of a non-self-published book does not mean you have legal control over copyright of the cover image of the book. The normal expected course of commercial publishing in this matter (considering that the image you uploaded has the Addison-Wesley logo embedded in it) would be that Addison-Wesley would have commissioned this as a work for hire from a commercial artist -- in which case they would hold the copyright (not you or the Unicode Consortium), even if the Unicode Consortium has control over the copyright of the contents of the book. There may not be any burning controversy over this matter, but unfortunately so far information has not been provided which would make it seem plausible that the necessary legal i's have been dotted and t's have been crossed. Images cannot be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons unless they can be used by anyone (without any seeking any prior permission) to make money... AnonMoos 15:19, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
Added "nosource" tag
[edit]Due to fact that there's no particular evidence that you are actually the legal copyright-holder of the image -- something which is necessary for use of the "Self" template on an image description page. The rules for uploading images to Wikimedia Commons are actually stricter for uploading to Wikipedia -- there would be little problem with this image on Wikipedia (though it would be nice if the useless white margins were cropped...) AnonMoos 15:29, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
- What would you like me to do? Obviously we need to have an image of the cover of this book. Why can't we? Evertype 15:53, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
- You can have it easily on WikiPedia (with a "p") but WikiMedia Commons (with an "mc") has somewhat stricter requirements, which so far you don't seem to have satisfied. You could start by scrutinising Commons:Licensing. AnonMoos 02:01, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Rail Transport in Ireland
[edit]I had copied the image [1], as explained there, from the english language Wikipedia. It seems that I had forgotten to place a link there. I wanted to use the image in the German language article on rail transport in Ireland, and thus needed the image in the Commons image store, not in the language specific department. --L.Willms (talk) 20:15, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'll ask the original author, whom you have now helped me to find. Thanks! Evertype (talk) 09:41, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Re: Font template
[edit]I have used Inkscape and a SVG file existed in WikiCommons. Sorry for my bad english.GJo (talk) 17:06, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- Dové il file SVG? Grazie e perdone il mio italiano pessimo. Evertype (talk) 20:01, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- Remove the existent char from downloaded image, example Image:ConsolasSP.svg, change the colors and insert text in your font, at the end select text an apply “Tracciato --> Da oggetto a tracciato” (Shift+Ctrl+C) (Sorry, I don't know in english version).GJo (talk) 11:06, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 05:48, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

File:Wonderland-revisited.png has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

- Hello. I deleted both files. You may of course upload them as fair-use at en.wikipedia ; but if you are the copyright holder and willing to release them under a free license, your files are more than welcome on Commons. Please send a permission to Commons:OTRS and an admin will restore files. Cheers, Jean-Fred (talk) 19:31, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
