Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). Please sign your postings
[edit]As a courtesy to other editors, it is Commons:Signatures policy to sign your posts on talk pages, user talk pages, deletion requests, and noticeboards. To do so, simply add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments. Your user name or IP address (if you are not logged in) and the date will then automatically be added along with a timestamp when you save your comment. Signing your comments helps people to find out who said something and provides them with a link to your user/talk page (for further discussion). Thank you.

License header
[edit]Hi, I think it would be better to separate the license with a header, like this. Also there is no need to add "Template:" when you use {{British Library image}}. It seems there are issues here: File:Il Libro delle Preghiere Publiche (c25k24).jpg. I see "Error in template * unknown parameter name (Template:Artwork): '3; 2; 1'". I don't know why. Regards, Yann (talk) 09:41, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
Hello, I agree about the License Template but unfortunately I don't know how to separate it, is there a guide about that? And I know there is an error, it's because I used "|", I've been told how to fix that :) DimitraCharalampidou (talk) 09:50, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
- Hi, There isn't a guide, but that is how most file descriptions are done. Regards, Yann (talk) 12:50, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
I noticed that I actually have to add this ==Licensing== in order to separate the template right? Where do I put it though? Do I paste it on my XML file before the license? Thank you DimitraCharalampidou (talk) 12:52, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
Professionalism
[edit]Having read the long thread on the 'crats board, I'd like to suggest some things. Always Assume Good Faith. (see COM:AGF) Everyone there was trying to help you, including the person you snapped at for no reason. Please learn the procedures here before getting snappy at people who are trying to help. Please take a few minutes and put up a nice discussion of who you are and what you do on your user page. If I went to your page as it is now with the SHOUTING, I'd discount your abilities as a librarian or a researcher due to the unprofessional appearance of that page. I'd point out that if you want some of the most powerful tools in Commons turned on for you, you need to demonstrate your willingness to work with the users, editors and admins who are already working on the process. Finally, never forget that the people with whom you interact here are people - deserving of the same politeness and consideration as you would always wish to receive. We're not machines, we're not getting paid, there's no reason to be anything other than collegial. I appreciate that you apologized, but I don't see that you're cooperating with polite requests, including factual information about yourself on your user page. If you wish to be treated professionally, it is advisable is to work within the system to obtain that respect. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:00, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
Hello, I was being very polite until someone started telling me how insufficient my knowledge was. I have been trying to understand how Wikimedia works for the last 5 months because there is a lack of guides, hence, I find it impossibly rude of someone to start judging my knowledge just because I didn't understand something they wrote.
My page is like that because I only wrote those things because I was advised to. I did it in a hurry because honestly I only want my dissertation done. I do not understand what my page has to do with the British Library's collection. I am simply an uploader of the collection trying to finish her dissertation, something which has proven to be way more difficult due to the lack of information. Yet if you Wikimedians think it is so important to have it in a better shape I will fix it up when I am done with uploading the content.
Consequently, I am always polite if someone is polite to me, I only snapped at them because they started offending my knowledge because I didn't understand something they wrote. That was not snapping for no reason. If they hadn't started saying how insufficient my knowledge was and explained to me what needed to be done instead, I would not have said anything. BL bookbindings
[edit]Hi Dimitra,
I noticed that you've been working on the mass upload to Commons of the BL bookbindings collections. Great job!
I'd like to share with you that your action has inspired the Koninklijke Bibliotheek, the national library of the Netherlands, to follow the BL and upload its (rights free) collection of bookbindings to Commons too! By the end of this year or early 2016 they should be available under KB's media index
So thanks for the inspiration! --OlafJanssen (talk) 13:34, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
File:Une saison en enfer. - - Upper and lower cover and spine (C129m13).jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Expiry of GWToolset user group memberships
[edit]There is a proposal on the Bureaucrat's noticeboard to automatically expire GWT memberships after one year unless the user requests an extension. Please add your views and suggestions to the discussion. The reasonably informal process for getting access to GWT access will remain as is.

- Per the proposal mentioned above your access to the GW toolset has been removed. Please feel free to request back at any time via the Bureaucrats' noticeboard. --Krd 07:59, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
