Hello. I saw your categoryh renamming. Maybe you want to do the same for all Category:Scoreboards in Summer Olympics. Regards. Like tears in rain {-_-} 07:36, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
- Done. Thanks for the notice. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 14:44, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
Identification of personalities
Good morning! Thank you for your work with the photographs of the 2013 World Athletics Championships. However, I have more suggestions for you on identifying individuals from the categories Category:Uploads by MasterRus21thCentury/President.am, Category:Unidentified politicians of Russia, , Category:Uploads by MasterRus21thCentury/Mil.ru, Category:Uploads by MasterRus21thCentury/Minjust.gov.ru etc. MasterRus21thCentury (talk) 04:43, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
Request for speedy deletion of two categories (Sony + lens)
Hello, I have just seen that you have submitted a request for speedy deletion for the two categories Category:Taken with Sony ILCE-9M2 and Sony FE 35mm F1.4 ZA and Category:Taken with Sony ILCE-9M2 and Sony FE 12-24mm F4 G as "unuseful empty category". They are not "obviously unusable, unlikely to be ever meaningfully used" as mentioned, especially since photos will soon be assigned to them. --Anil Ö. (talk) 17:22, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
- Well, one of the categories has existed for more than a month, and is still empty. So how soon are we talking about? Cryptic-waveform (talk) 17:23, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
- I've only just started to look through the photos and upload them. If in doubt, just leave the request as it is and I'll recreate them then - that will probably be quicker than discussing sense and nonsense here. --Anil Ö. (talk) 17:33, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
- Feel free to revert if you do indeed need these categories. But please don't leave them empty. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 17:31, 29 August 2024 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Africa
Hi, You tagged Category:Wiki Loves Africa 2020 Events for deletion, but this category is not empty. Could you please either, removed the pages inside, or removed the deletion template? See also Category:Other speedy deletions. Thanks, Yann (talk) 12:07, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hey @Yann. I'm unable to do so as I don't have enough permission to edit the remaining pages. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 20:35, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
Armagh
Regarding Commons:Categories for discussion/2024/04/Category:Armagh you say that the change has been applied. Perhaps I'm just being impatient but I don't see that. Laurel Lodged (talk) 11:03, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
- Oh, I misunderstood the CfD. Applying the change now as I don't think it's controversial. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 11:17, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Laurel Lodged: Please double-check Category:Armagh. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 11:24, 11 September 2024 (UTC)

Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown
Hi, I noticed you doing some categorical work in this space. In Wiki, the name uses the endash ( Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown). The Commons category names for the sub-categories uses a mixture of long and short dashes. I think that they should be unified to just one - probably the endash. What to you think? Laurel Lodged (talk) 09:52, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Laurel Lodged. Fully in agreement that the names should all be using the same syntax. I'm slightly in favor of the regular dash ("Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown") instead of the endash, for the simple reason that it's what everybody has readily available on their keyboards. It's the same with the curly apostrophe versus the single quote. But I could be convinced otherwise. If the endash is picked, {{Counties of Ireland}} will need to be modified as it only supports the simple dash for now. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 12:01, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
- Let's go with simple dash then. Laurel Lodged (talk) 15:40, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
- Sounds good. I'll start moving categories around today. I'll leave redirects in place if other people use endashes. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 17:46, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
- Done. You can check the result at Category: intitle:"Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown" -incategory:"Category redirects". Cryptic-waveform (talk) 17:59, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

Royal Canal (Ireland)
Would you mind having a look at Category:Royal Canal by lock number please? The contents need to be standardised; either "Lock xx, (Royal Canal)" or "Royal Canal (xx lock)". My preference is for the latter. Laurel Lodged (talk) 10:30, 19 September 2024 (UTC)

Conventions for County Dublin
Hi again, just a note on the conventions around County Dublin. If you look at the Wiki discussions around this topic, you'll see what I'm talking about. They are extensive. In a nutshell, County Dublin was abolished and was superseded by four entities (counties and cities): Fingal, South Dublin, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown and the city of Dublin. However, many people in Ireland refuse to recognise the legal environment and still cling to the "traditional" county structure. For that reason, and to keep the peace, a convention has developed whereby all categories for a given county are simultaneously parented to the equivalent in County Dublin. Thus "Foo in County Dublin" acts as a container category and also as a store for those things in Dublin the preceded the foundation of the state. Laurel Lodged (talk) 07:54, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the note. I'll stop removing "in County Dublin" categories, but I will not add more work to myself to create more of such categories. If somebody cares enough, they can easily find all categories needing additional categorization and create it. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 11:24, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
- Fair enough. Laurel Lodged (talk) 14:05, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
Bridges over the River Liffey in Dublin
Regarding the IslandBridge category change, I think that it may have been an error on your part. It is indeed a bridge over the River Liffey in Dublin. Laurel Lodged (talk) 06:52, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Laurel Lodged: Yep, it's in Category:Bridges over the Liffey in Dublin. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 11:23, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- I see the problem now. There's an ambiguity about Category:Islandbridge. Is it an area, a bridge or both? I think that it would be safer to change the parentage from Category:Bridges over the Liffey in Dublin and let each pic decide instead. Laurel Lodged (talk) 12:00, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- The source of truth should be the Wikidata item, which says that Islandbridge is an instance of bridge. If some pictures are not of the bridge, then they should be moved out of this category. I don't know anything about this topic so I appreciate you double-checking my changes. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 12:03, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- True. But the Wiki page says "Island Bridge and the surrounding area (often known as Islandbridge) are so named because of the island formed here by the creation of a mill race towards the right bank while the main current flows to the left. ". So perhaps an additional category is needed. But is it worth the effort? Laurel Lodged (talk) 15:44, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
- It wouldn't be too hard to create Category:Islandbridge (Dublin area) and Category:Islandbridge (bridge). If you feel like it would be beneficial, then I can do it. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 17:47, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

Taken with DJI radio-controlled helicopters has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |
