BM uploads

[edit]

I've been finding these very useful, but why do you consistently omit the name of the artist? Please don't do this. Not all have Commons categories, but many do, and they should be categorized with the artist's name either way. Johnbod (talk) 18:30, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Copyfraud. Thanks for uploading British Museum images, including File:Northampton House - Canonbury Place (BM 1880,1113.4988).jpg, dated 1836. I am working on a WP article about Canonbury House, and would like to upload to Wikipedia Commons two more similar BM images, located at https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/P_1880-1113-4972 dated 1750-60 and https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/P_1880-1113-4979 dated c. 1780
Please can you clarify the copyright situation with the BM on these? The BM's website says "All materials on this website are subject to the laws of copyright. You may not reproduce or distribute the images or any part of the images for commercial purposes in any way without a licence from the British Museum Images (BM Images). Copyright in all the images remains with The Trustees of the British Museum and the collections it represents."
Would public domain apply to these, as you have stated for the Northampton House image? Or do I need to apply to the BM? Could you do the uploads for me?! Masato.harada (talk) 10:36, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Masato.harada thanks for this concern. I was also looking at some of the BM uploads and thinking of the same. The copyright status of these images need attention. Mrb Rafi (talk) 05:37, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
