User talk:Bob K
Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki ‒ it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

Image Tagging Image:Kaiser window 2pi.png
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Kaiser window 2pi.png. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-3.0 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. --Filnik 22:12, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Image deletion warning | Image:Kaiser_window_6.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |

Your deletion requests
[edit]Hi Bob. Your deletion requests are legitimate and will be honored as soon as CheckUsage (a tool that checks the file usage in all Wikimedia projects) is back online. Next time please use template Bad name that was specifically created for that purpose. Jastrow (Λέγετε) 12:03, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:40, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

Question concerning one graph you draw for the circular convolution
[edit]Hi Bob,
Shouldn't the green line on the 6th graph here https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Circular_convolution_example.png be slightly longer and have the same number of elements as the initial function ?
Thanks. 80.83.53.12 10:18, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
- No, because green designates the portion that matches X[n]*h[n] (3rd graph), for the functions of this example. To get the edges of the large triangles, one has to use a larger value of N or use cirular convolution as part of an overlap-save process.
- --Bob K (talk) 19:21, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
Hi Bob, I saw your addition to File:Comparison_convolution_correlation.svg
The height of the rectangular function (f) is assumed to be one, in which case the value of the convolution and cross-correlation with g at various points is equivalent to the corresponding shaded areas of g. The same equivalence is true of the autocorrelation of f, but not for the autocorrelation of g. (sorry)
Can you please explain why it's true of f's autocorrelation but not g's? Thanks, cmɢʟee ⋅τaʟκ 16:28, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
The product of 2 rectangles with heights of 1 is still 1. If the rectangles had heights of 2, the product would be 4, which would not match the shaded area, whose height would be 2. Similarly the product of 2 triangles is the product of 2 non-unity numbers, which does not match the height of either triangle, thus does not match the shaded area. --Bob K (talk) 17:01, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
Autopatrol given
[edit]Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. ~riley (talk) 05:15, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
Notification about possible deletion
[edit]Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

File:Comparison convolution james.png
[edit]I was trying to add categories to uncategorized files and I popped into File:Comparison convolution james.png. Frankly, I don't have a clue on what is it about. So, could you add some categories, please?
Thanks a lot! B25es (talk) 16:25, 1 February 2023 (UTC)
