Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:36, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Hello Anas1712, van you help me in simple wikipedia please? Smitersleon (talk) 20:06, 26 October 2015 (UTC)
File:Walter Mart Carmona.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

All the streets
[edit]When removing Streets in Brussels (Pentagon) please be sure that all the posible streets are categorised. I have added two street categories: Category:Rue de la Bourse/Beursstraat (Brussels) Category:Rue Henri Maus/Henri Mausstraat (Brussels) to File:Briefkaart Beurs Brussel.jpg and File:Brussel Beurs met trams.jpg. Overcategorisation
[edit]Regarding your edit, I think “2023 in New Taipei” is a redundant category because all its items are already subsumed in Category:2023 in New Taipei. In the category tree, C is a subcategory of B, and B is a subcategory of A; on the contrary, A is a parent category of B, and B is a parent category of C. Therefore, the “2023 photographs of New Taipei” category is C, the “2023 works in New Taipei” category is B, and the “2023 in New Taipei” category is A. There's no point having an image in a high-level category (Category:2023 in New Taipei) when we already have a more specific category for 2023 photographs of New Taipei. To keep an image in both is overcategorization and it should be avoid. Please read COM:OVERCAT before adding any more categories. Thanks.--125.230.83.1 19:30, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry @125.230.83.1: ,
- It was an error. As I said for a similar edit on the help desk, me too, I'm again it, and doing so, it's idiot. (for exemple, I've removing some overcat here and many others especially in Hong Kong/Shenzhen/Taiwan files). But over 15.000 edits, sometimes, we can make mistakes.
- I think the 2024 in Taipei category is full of volontary overcat that must be resorbed, like this one: File:TW 台灣 Taiwan 台北 Taipei 大安區 Da'An 師大路 Shida Road NTNU 國立臺灣師範大學 National Taiwan Normal University brown building facade March 2024 R12S 02.jpg. Honestly, I think most of this kind of named files are redunded overcat.
- Here is my point of view, but thanks for the remark

- Not me...is WC-QHS. Because he saw your mistake first. Look at his edit. I just happened to see it. If you want to explain your reasons to me, you can go to User talk:WC-QHS (but he is not me).--125.230.83.1 20:40, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
