Probleme mit Kategorie
Hallo Achim 55, könntest Du Dir bitte noch einmal die von Dir angelegte Kategorie Category:Statues in Germany photographed in the 2010s ansehen!? Da ist irgendwie Murks passiert... J.-H.
--XRay talk 12:37, 8 July 2017 (UTC)
- Jan & Dietmar, dann ist ja alles klar. Done. Gruß, --Achim (talk) 16:10, 8 July 2017 (UTC)

Hi I think I have two more for you ... Pavanreddy96 and Pavan Kumar Kodedela. Ellin Beltz (talk) 15:50, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
- Ellin, thank you! The second one is a false positive due to the age of the account (there are several Pavan Kumars). The first one might fit, but as long as there is no self-promotional behavior like before I won't take any action. Cheers, --Achim (talk) 17:48, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
- Neither have the same interests and they aren't doing the same nonsense at en.wiki so I don't think these are connected. He did say that he's going to wait 6months to take up en:WP:SO, though he created a sock right after that, but been quiet for a few days now. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 03:59, 12 July 2017 (UTC)
Code issues in User:Achim55/common.js
Hi Achim55, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.
Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:
- You edited User:Achim55/common.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
- Though, that change appears to introduce 1 new jshint issue — the page's status is now having warnings. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
- To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding {{ValidationOptOut|type=all}} to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!

Thanks!
Thanks for your work finding the sources for images listed in Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Files from Pixabay user Skeeze, especially the Coast Guard photos. I'd been looking all over, but I forgot about the huge cache of files in DVID. Ytoyoda (talk) 14:34, 21 July 2017 (UTC)
- Ytoyoda, you're welcome. I just found another pixabay account who gathered images from the web. Example: File:City-1031706 1920.jpg → https://pixabay.com/p-1031706/ → https://unsplash.com/@henning . Best, --Achim (talk) 19:09, 21 July 2017 (UTC)
Question...
How many different models of camera does a person have to own before you conclude the number is suspicious? I first read this argument for justifying suspicion about five years ago, and the person advocating suspicion there had a low number.
I got my first digital camera in 2008, a Kodak. I think I have owned four Kodak cameras, since then, several Canon, several Fuji, several Panasonic. I have a Staples near me, and, for years, their open box cameras were ridiculously cheap -- like $50 CAD. I am sure if you had a robot check all my uploads they would be from more than a dozen different cameras.
Some people swap cameras; or justify the purchase of a superior camera, by giving their old camera away.
So, what is the number you think justifies suspicion? Geo Swan (talk) 23:59, 15 July 2017 (UTC)
- Geo Swan, I say it again: It is not our job to do investigations on who in fact did shoot an image on Pixabay and who didn't. Skeeze himself did not upload to Commons as far as I know. At least some of "his" images are from other sources, so regardless of the real ownership OTRS is required. We don't know if he "abuses" Pixabay by uploading images made by others or not, there is no proof. Therefore COM:PRP has to be applied. --Achim (talk) 07:07, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
- Okay thanks for the reply.
- I don't think you addressed my general point. At what number should someone's use of multiple cameras trigger certainty they are a copyright violator?
- I've been incorrectly accused of being a copyright violator over my decade here, multiple times. Some of those have been occasions when I was duped by someone else's flickr-washing.
- But the rest of those occasions were instances of my uploading photos -- or text -- that were my original works, that I had uploaded elsewhere. Of course I am entitled to upload my own creative works to multiple sites. Most people who incorrectly stated or implied I was a copyright violator later acknowledged being mistaken. Still, it is not pleasant.
- So, I return to my original question. "How many different models of camera does a person have to own before you conclude the number is suspicious?" Geo Swan (talk) 20:05, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
- Geo Swan, I said "in my opinion" and "unlikely", therefore I won't tell you a number, I don't like to look onto each of skeeze's 11000 images. He used at least these eight. Let's have a look on his homepage on pixabay:

- Clarification for the record: Both of them grabbed it from Unsplash. --Achim (talk) 14:34, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
- OKay, I am going to urge caution, in general, for considering 8 cameras, or a dozen cameras, as a remarkable reason to suspect copyright violations. I know eight cameras, spread over a bunch of years, is not a remarkable number of cameras, for a busy photographers, as I have used more than that.
Forgive me for slightly adjusting the indentation here. Your user talk page, your rules. You don't have to follow convention here. But I figured your non-standard indentation was merely due to rushing, not a genuine formatting decision. Geo Swan (talk) 23:50, 16 July 2017 (UTC)

Pixabay-Probleme
Nur sehr entfernt passend: Commons:Categories for discussion/2016/12/Category:Files from HaloJim from Pixabay.

Ach so: Ich hab mir mal erlaubt, Dein Skript ImageSearch einzubinden. — Speravir – 21:28, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
{{unknown}}
einsetzen. — Speravir – 18:23, 1 August 2017 (UTC)

How to delete an uploaded image on Wiki Commons? Ig2E Entertainment (talk) 16:15, 20 August 2017 (UTC)

Alles Gute Dir! Gruß, --Achim (talk) 20:16, 3 September 2017 (UTC)
- Hallo Achim, vielen herzlichen Dank! Auch Dir alles Gute! Mit Gruß aus Innsbruck, Mike
CommonsDelinker commands
Hi, could you please move the BSicon requests on User:CommonsDelinker/commands/byHand to User:CommonsDelinker/commands? Manual replacement is usually no longer necessary due to JJMC89 bot replacing BSicons within diagram templates automatically. Thanks, Jc86035 (talk) 04:00, 4 September 2017 (UTC)

- Jc86035, the delinker is working hard, I think it still needs one hour to be done. Please have a look at the downmost entry at User:CommonsDelinker/commands/byHand. I'm not sure about it as it points the other way round. Please fix it and throw it into User:CommonsDelinker/commands/filemovers. Regards, --Achim (talk) 17:06, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
- It looks like the page move failed because the file could not be moved over the redirect, which was edited after it was created. Please SD-G6 the redirect and move the file to that title. Jc86035 (talk) 17:09, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
- Jc86035, Done, did run smoothly. In addition I did a query against the databases and made up this page in case someone of the BSicon freaks feels bored... --Achim (talk) 21:21, 2 October 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks. How did you generate the list? (I might want to use this to e.g. nominate unused deprecated redirects for deletion.) Jc86035 (talk) 01:18, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

Hello
I'm writing you as one of the most active Commons users right now. Since a while now, the idea of a dedicated Commons conference has been floating around. But since the last Wikimania concrete steps have been taken to actually make it happen next year. If you're interested in participation or maybe willing to help organize the first ever Commons Conference, I invite you to check out the project page and leave your comments; or just show your support for the idea, by signing up.
Cheers,

--Horst. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Horst J. Meuter (talk • contribs) 12:36, 28 October 2017 (UTC)

Faro de Cabo Prioriño
Hi Achim55. Please can you recreate the Category:Faro de Cabo Prioriño, that I noticed you had recently deleted. Rename caret
FYI, File:Εδώ είναι βόρεια^^^^^11 - panoramio.jpg is actually meant to be File:Εδώ είναι βόρεια!!!!!11 - panoramio.jpg. It shouldn't be in my list since its a control character. —Dispenser (talk) 15:18, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
- Dispenser, you are right and I was aware of that. There are people who have the habit of emphasizing sentences by closing them using multiple ! marks!!!!! Really!!!!! I felt free to remove them as well as I fix file names ending with cut-off words (depending on predefined max lenght of file names I guess) by completing these truncated words or even leaving them out. I found also a case of two different apostrophies (straight and curly) in the same file name like "... mate's ... mate’s ...". While already a file renaming is to be done I fix such minor things on the fly if I notice them. Best, --Achim (talk) 17:27, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

!!!!!11
is a typo. —Dispenser (talk) 19:40, 8 November 2017 (UTC)- Aah, thank you for pointing that out, Dispenser! Btw, I didn't find a document about disallowed characters in file names, accidentally I noticed that '<' and '>' don't work. User names must not contain '@' as a config file on mw tells. --Achim (talk) 14:24, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
- From my notes (which should be in Commons:File naming):
0x00-0x1F # < > [ ] | { } _ 0x7F
are forbidden as MediaWiki page titles.: / \
as forbidden by $wgIllegalFileChars.%[0-9a-fA-F]{2}
is also forbidden
- My notes are mostly on file system problems, so it has things such as File:Com1.JPG having save troubles in Windows Firefox (but not Chrome) and dotfiles like File:._-_panoramio_(675).jpg as hidden on Linux. —Dispenser (talk) 16:18, 12 November 2017 (UTC)

- Musée Annam, on December 12 you replaced one of the images by a different version. Could you please tell the source of that version? --Achim (talk) 16:42, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
IDO Media and Print Ltd. - edit
Good afternoon,
I am the editor of IDO Media and Print Ltd.'s page. As you are the one that flagged it I am reaching out to you for help.
When I posted IDO Media and Print Ltd.'s original content, the idea was not to advertise on Wikipedia, it was to inform the world that the company exists and of the things it offers. I followed a similar format to Rogers Media.
I am interested in getting this information out to the world but I seem to have gone about it in the wrong fashion. If you could direct me to or give some tips on how to properly set up the page so that it keeps to the educational format, I would appreciate it.
- FisherIDO, that's no problem but there are different projects: Wikipedias (like the English one) host articles, Rogers Media can be found there. Wikimedia Commons doesn't host articles but media (images, video, audio) that could be used for illustrating articles on Wikipedia projects. So feel free to write an article on w:en:, here on Commons you might upload accomp. images of logos or photographs or the like. User pages on Commons serve a different purpose, for example could a user tell others what languages could be used talking to them, because Commons is a multi-language project. Best, --Achim (talk) 19:39, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- FisherIDO, I think my note on your user page did sound a bit rude, I apologize for that. But during the past months spamming, advertising and promotion has increased dramatically here on Commons, every month about 500 accounts are blocked for abusing Wikimedia Commons this way. There are even spambots and -botnets that keep us busy... --Achim (talk) 20:11, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
- Achim, Understandable. I am new to the process and was not aware that there was a difference between creating a page and posting in the Commons, I find that Wikipedia is well set up but somewhat confusing to navigate. - FisherIDO(talk)
Thanks
Your anti-spam efforts will go predominantly unnoticed as acts by the community and by many admins, though the cleanliness of the site will be noticed. I would like to say that your efforts are appreciated, and noticed by those of us hanging out in the back. Thanks for the work that you have done for managing spam and spambots this year. If you celebrate Xmas, hope that it is a joyous time for you and your family. If you don't, all the best anyway. — billinghurst sDrewth 09:08, 24 December 2017 (UTC)

about
Hi there, so the two lasts files that i been upload are open-source files, I forgot to add {{own}} in the pdf page, there isn't any reason to block so it was just a "discussions wrong" Koussayou003 (talk) 19:47, 24 December 2017 (UTC)
- Koussayou003, File:كتاب تعلم C-.pdf is obviously by Ron Penton and is marked "© 2005 by Thomson Course Technology PTR. All rights reserved." So we need a permission. The other pdf is File:كتاب تعلم البايثون.pdf, and I do not know whether it can be undeleted or not. Please go to Commons:Undeletion requests and ask for undeletion of your files, that is the right way. Regards, --Achim (talk) 20:11, 24 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Achim55: i ask the editor and he accept to share the file on commons but i don't know how to documant this acceptation on an pdf or an word text ?
Koussayou003 (talk) 20:37, 24 December 2017 (UTC)
- Koussayou003, then follow the COM:OTRS procedure, please. If our OTRS team receives a fitting e-mail the file will be undeleted. --Achim (talk) 20:40, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
Serge Le Goueff
good morning,
I am the editor of Serge Le Goueff's page. I understand you have requested deletion of this page and I truly don't understand why? I am not a company nor am I trying to sell anything. I have been a professional Saxophonist and Painter for over 40 years. I contribute daily to the production of art works in Australia, South East Asia and Europe.
Some of my recorded works are being transcribed and analysed by music students and as part of research projects which prompted me to create the Serge Le Goueff page.
May I kindly request that you do not delete this page as it is part of the fabric of the Australian Art hub.
Serge Le Goueff — Preceding unsigned comment added by Serge Le Goueff (talk • contribs) 23:42, 13 January 2018 (UTC)
- Serge, there are two problems: First, this is not Wikipedia but Wikimedia Commons. That means, here are no article pages at all. Commons is a media repository that provides media for use in articles that exist on Wikipedia projects like French or English Wikipedia. So if somebody would create an article about Serge Le Goueff, one of the Wikipedias were the right place to do so. The second problem was the content of the page, it sounds like a self-promoting biography, and such promotional content is not within the project scope here on Commons. Maybe there is a misunderstanding about our user pages: They are not intended for self-presentation of users (if Emmanuel Macron came here and made a self-presentating or -promoting user page it would be deleted as well), but more for technical reasons like a better communication among users (languages the user does understand or his user rights to perform special actions or his time zone or the like). I do not doubt any of your professional skills and respect them, but if I did undelete your user page, for sure another admin would then delete it again for the same reasons. Of course you are allowed to create a new user page User:Serge Le Goueff if you like. Regards, --Achim (talk) 18:34, 14 January 2018 (UTC)
Quarry
Hi. For the Quarry query which you wrote to find BSicon redirects, is it possible to filter out images which are only used in the User namespace? A lot of redirects are used in old template galleries from more than five years ago, and since most of them will never be updated (and some of them are fully protected, for some reason) it would be better to just ignore User namespace usage. Thanks, Jc86035 (talk) 11:34, 15 January 2018 (UTC)
- Jc86035, no problem, have a look at quarry:query/20170. You can add more including or excluding AND lines. Best, --Achim (talk) 14:59, 15 January 2018 (UTC)

Umgang

Removing full width ASCII
/* ASCII files with full width characters.
* Runtime: 5 min
*/
SELECT CONCAT("* [[:File:", img_name, "]]") AS Filename
FROM (SELECT CAST(img_name AS CHAR CHARACTER SET utf8mb4) AS img_name FROM image) AS subquery
WHERE img_name REGEXP "[!-~]" /* U+FF01 - U+FF5E*/
AND img_name REGEXP "^[!-~ !-~]+$" /* All ASCII special case */
AND img_name NOT REGEXP "[#<>[]|{}_:/\]" /* Forbidden characters */;
# Convert Full-Width ASCII (U+FF01-U+FF5E) to regular ASCII
# Probably should use unicodedata, but I'm lazy
u''.join(unichr(ord(c)-0xfee0) if 0xff01 <= ord(c) <= 0xff5e else c for c in img_name)
Any interest in completing Files with U+FFxx in names? I'm told for Chinese, that this is "almost always sloppy typing". I believe the all ASCII special case (query above, 1,645 moves) should cause little or no controversy with the exception of ASCIIbetical sorting (a MediaWiki bug). - Dispenser, thanks for notifying, I'll work on that, as soon as I'll be back home. I'm going to visit my 91 yo dad (4..5 hours on the highway) and will be back on Monday or Tuesday. Best, --Achim (talk) 21:20, 13 February 2018 (UTC)
User:Chris.brand für Videouploads freischalten
Hallo Achim55,
Viele Grüße, Stephan Kulla (talk) 13:42, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
- Super, vielen Dank dir! -- Stephan Kulla (talk) 21:01, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
dupe
Was jetzt? Alles ungültig? Alles nochmal?
- Liebe Marie, bleib mal ganz ruhig.
