Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 11:12, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Suggestion about adjusting categories. What would you say about it?
[edit]Dear 四葉亭四迷. Thank you for your great contribution on Wikimedia Commons. Especially, thank you for creating "Universal Peace Federation" category. I have a suggestion.
I would like to ask you for a favor, if you agree to this idea.
1. I suggest you create category "Unification Movement" above "Unification Church" category.
2. I suggest you move all the subcategories currently placed under "Unification Church" to the "Unification Movement" category.
3. I suggest you move "Unification Church" category under "Unification Movement" category.
The result will be: "Unification Movement" is an umbrella category. "Unification Church", "Universal Peace Federation" and other will be under "Unification Movement" on equal level. This will show that "Universal Peace Federation" is not part of "Unification Church" but part of a larger movement.
For now, I have moved "Universal Peace Federation" from under "Unification Church" category to another set of categories since it is not a direct product of the Unification Church.
Please, let me know if you think it is a good idea? UPF official (talk) 14:43, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
