Érico, can you add the confirmed and autopatrol rights to my alternate account above please? It will make semi-automated edits using VisualFileChange and Cat-a-lot. I already requested at COM:RFR, but no one seems to respond. Thank you! Poké95 07:15, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Pokéfan95: Okay, ✓ Done. Thanks for your work here and happy new year. Érico (msg) 07:19, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Out of scope. Unused personal image.

[edit]

I just finished closing around 90 DRs that you started. When you do DRs like these, if they all come from the same user or the same category, I think you'll find it much faster to use VFC to nominate them as a group. You get to select them from thumbnails and click the ones you want to nominate (or all with one click). One page load and one click. It's also much faster for the closing Admin. .     Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 12:05, 8 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Jameslwoodward: Hi! Thanks for your work in the DR process. No doubt that the VFC is most easier than manually. The problem is that the most of the pictures are not of the same author or category. When ocurs the situation described by you, I make a mass deletation request manually (example). Regards, Érico (msg) 20:33, 8 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Apology

[edit]

I apologize and indeed, my comments were uncivil, but you should keep in mind that "it takes two for tango gafieira": it was Chronus who started with attacks and I even asked him for polite behavior on talk page but he only reverted my edits and continued with insults. He even called whole country (Iran) as Muslim oppressive and primitive country. Considering you're Brazilian, you should also check his actions on Portuguese Wikipedia where he is spreading anti-Iranian propaganda and even labeling pedophile rapists as "homosexuals". I put three academic sources written by LGBT experts and he simply removed it. --MehrdadFR (talk) 02:18, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry again for invoking Argentinian dance, considering all Argentinian-Brazilian rivalry maybe you'll see it as a provocation. --MehrdadFR (talk) 03:59, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@MehrdadFR: I like the Argentina! (maybe because I don't like footbal) Regardind to the warning that I sent to you, It was really necessary. Your behavior was not very suitable, as well as the Chronus also was not. I strongly advise you to avoid contact with this user. I'm sure that after some time the situation will become calmer and a productive discussion can be made. Sorry for the delay in responding to you. Cheers.

Gunnex (talk) 21:28, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Gunnex: Tudo bem comigo, e contigo?

It seems that the Flickr file that you stated in the source is different to the file above. This makes User:FlickreviewR 2 bot not determining the copyright status of the file. Can you fix the source in your uploaded file so that I can review it if it passes our licensing policy and other copyright-related policies? Thanks, Poké95 10:01, 22 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Pokéfan95: Hi. I think that you are wrong. The source of the image given by me is correct. Please, see the man sitting in the left. It's not the man in the photo? :) The FlickreviewR 2 can not identify this type of uploads/sources. Therefore, a human revision is necessary. Regards. Érico (talk) 18:07, 22 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
But the expression is not the same. So the source of the image is still incorrect. I know it is the same man, but their expressions are not the same. Thanks, Poké95 12:03, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The "expression" is the same. In short, a reviewer more experienced already validated the license. Cheers. Érico (talk) 15:50, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
File:Nikki Haley official portrait.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Code issues in User:Érico/common.js

[edit]

Hi Érico, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.

Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:

  1. You edited User:Érico/common.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
  2. Though, that change appears to introduce 1 new jshint issue — the page's status is now having warnings. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
  3. To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding {{ValidationOptOut|type=all}} to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!

Question from a new contributor: What is the correct process for uploading images (my "Empire Day" poster was just removed).

[edit]

Hi! This was my first wikipedia contribution so I apologize if I did something wrong. I saw other pictures of posters from Empire Strikes Back on the site so I assumed it was ok that I uploaded the photo of the "Empire Day" premiere poster. I'm not sure if it matters, but I wanted to be clear that I am currently in possession of the poster and the photo I uploaded was taken by me personally. I would like to offer it for unrestricted use to wikipedia members with no rights reserved -- I'm really just hoping to give back to the wikipedia community as it's been a wonderful resource for me over the years. I have a huge collection of rare posters and I plan on photographing them using the same, high quality process as the "Empire Day" poster over the next year or two. Could you please let me know what I need to do to get poster photos approved for use on wikipedia? Thank you for your help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Appreciable (talk • contribs) 03:29, 5 March 2016‎ (UTC) (UTC)[reply]

@Appreciable: Hi! Glad to know you are willing to work with the Wikimedia Commons. The file uploaded by you was unfortunately deleted because is a copyright violation. Despite the fact that you took the picture, you are not the author of the poster (see some policies that speak of the matter: Commons:Fair use and Commons:Derivative works). However, some wikis (the Portuguese Wikipedia, for example) allow these upload under the fair use licence. I'm not sure how the rules of English Wikipedia. Kind regards. Érico (talk) 03:39, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Érico Thank you for your reply. I have read through the links you sent. However, I'm not sure I still understand the restriction given that there are several other Empire Strikes Back poster images on the wikipedia page -- none of which were posted directly by the original copyright holder (20th Century Fox). For example, here is an image of the re-release poster from 1997 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:The_Empire_Strikes_Back_(1997_re-release_poster).jpg), which user: "Theo's Little Bot" posted with "Non-free use rationale guideline" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Non-free_use_rationale_guideline). In the description they state that the poster is "Non-free media information and use rationale" that the "source" was "The poster art can or could be obtained from 20th Century Fox." The same is true for my rare "Empire Day" poster -- it was handed out to the public during a 1980 promotional event. Assuming I include the same, or similar disclaimer text with my image, could it be uploaded using the same "Non-free use rationale guideline" justification? That user also specifically uploaded a "low resolution" version so that it couldn't be used to print bootlegs and "be unlikely to impact the copyright owner's ability to resell or otherwise profit from the work". My image is only 1200px on the long-edge -- far lower than what would be required to print a convincing bootleg. However, if it would help, I can reduce the resolution further. Do you know what size is acceptable? Thanks again for helping me on this. As mentioned, I have thousands of poster images that I would love to share with the wiki community. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Appreciable (talk • contribs) 16:22, 7 March 2016‎ (UTC) (UTC)[reply]

@Appreciable: Hi! First, sorry for the delay to respond your questions. I was too busy organizing an article in the Portuguese Wikipedia. The Commons and the English Wikipedia have different rules. There you can upload images under non-free use rationale, but not here. I think this section answers your question related to the images size. It is important to note that you only can upload images under non-free use rationale on the English Wikipedia if they are used there. Do you have any other questions? Érico (talk) 02:17, 10 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, with your help I think I have this figured out. I re-uploaded the photo of the poster on English Wikipedia under the "Non-free media information and use rationale" and included it in the Empire Strikes Back article. Thanks again for guiding me through this!

Question regarding deletion of "Tutorial for Computing a Regional NDVI

[edit]

Hey Érico, I specifically read through the project scope of Wikimedia Commons and yet apparently my content wasn't suitable. I tried to give a tutorial about calculating NDVI by means of an example region. Would you please tell me what was not in accordance with the project scope, because I put a lot of work in my tutorial, and I want to change it in a way that it can stay on Wikiversity. Thank you for your help and best regards from Germany, Felix Kullmann (talk) 08:40, 5 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Felix Kullmann: Hello. I'm glad you're willing to work with the Wikimedia Commons. Your tutorial was deleted by being out of the project scope. The Wikimedia Foundation has several projects, which have different purposes. Here are allowed images and galleries. Your tutorial can and should be posted on Wikiversity. Best regards. Photo deletion

[edit]

Hello,

You've deleted photo I have all rights for: "Хлибко_Николай_Селивестрович.jpg".

Please restore file, because all rights for this photo belong to me.

--ElenaKhlibko (talk) 12:29, 8 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@ElenaKhlibko: Hello! I deleted this image because I believe that it is a copyright violation. However, you can ask the opinion of other sysops here, as well can contact the OTRS. Érico (talk) 02:22, 10 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Érico: Hello! Our family has all rights for this photo, we have a written agreement between our family and photographer, and I wrote this when I was uploading the photo. Did this information lost? You didn't find it?

I contacted Wiki OTRS long time ago, I've send a letter like it should be sent, but nobody replied till now!!!

Please restore a photo.

--ElenaKhlibko (talk) 14:54, 10 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@ElenaKhlibko: Unfortunately, I do not have the power to validate this agreement. For this reason, you should try again to contact the OTRS members (list of members / Noticeboard). I hope you understand that this is not my choice. Regards! Érico (talk) 00:17, 11 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted file

[edit]

Hello, my friend. I'm wondering why you deleted the file while discussion was still taking place about OTRS at the talk page.

I'm an admin over at English Wikipedia and have been discussing things with the uploader there too.

What now? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:18, 12 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Anna Frodesiak: Hi, Anna. First, I think your user page very good! Congratulations for that!
I deleted the image mentioned above because I considered as a copyvio. I had not seen the ongoing discussion on the talk page, and there was not marked with {{OTRS pending}}. For these reasons, I deleted the image. However, if you want and send an email requesting the permission, I can restore it. Regards. Érico (talk) 00:54, 13 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The speedy template said that the right course of action if the templating was felt to be incorrect was to say so at the article talk. I did. With due respect, weren't you supposed to inspect that (bluelinked) page for a discussion before deleting? And I did not add the OTRS pending because the uploader had yet to say he would send the form in. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 05:21, 13 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Anna Frodesiak: As I said, this is a clear violation of copyright rights and therefore was marked as {{Copyvio}}. This would not be deleted if it had sent an email requesting the permission (and duly informed on the page). In such cases, it is recommended that you first send email requesting permission, and only then upload the image — which would avoid problems like this. Anyway, I can restore this image and add the missing permission tag. Érico (talk) 05:59, 13 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, my friend, please do restore it. I am certain the OTRS will be in very, very soon. Many thanks. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 10:57, 13 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Érico (talk) 18:52, 13 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much. However...[1]. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:32, 14 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
In this case with so much confusion over the rights, I think - based on COM:PRP the best action is to let an OTRS appear. This is not OTRS pending, no emails have been received. The only OTRS so far has been to confusingly reprint the form on a talk page. That is not an OTRS-pending, and doesn't deserve the template. I've redeleted the image and would request that it stay deleted until a valid OTRS has been arranged - which at present - is not. Thank you for your careful explanation above, it would be good if the OTRS did indeed arrive at some time in the future. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 02:45, 14 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, Ellin. Thank you and sorry for all the trouble. See also this. Thanks. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:51, 14 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

File:L5LEmlZ.jpg

[edit]

Hi Erico. I tagged File:L5LEmlZ.jpg as a copyvio, but forgot to notify the uploader. Is there any point in doing so now that you've deleted the file? How should it be done if there's still a need to do so? I don't remember the uploader's username. Thanks in advance. -- Marchjuly (talk) 18:59, 16 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Marchjuly: Hi! I warned the user WPRosu about this. Every time that I tagged an file as copyvio, is automatically sent a warning to the uploader. For this to happen, I configured my common.js. If you want, you should create your common.js with the same content. Regards. Érico (talk) 13:33, 17 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the tip about common.js -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:58, 18 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Marchjuly: You are always welcome. Érico (talk) 03:35, 20 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!

I think you marked Antonio Huertas photo as copyrigth violation and the page to be deleted. I have asked him for that photo and his personal assistant sent me that one. Obviously it´s used in other internet pages but he have paid for it. His communication´s team uses it for press releases, but he is the copyright owner. Please, reconsider your decision. Regards

This is the page: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonio_Huertas

--Uoho13 (talk) 05:26, 18 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Uoho13: Hello! I do not have the permission required to restore your image. For this to be done, copyright owner needs to send a permission following the procedure at OTRS. Regards. Érico (talk) 03:34, 20 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

TinasheFeb2012.jpg

[edit]

Where’s your reason for this copyvio claim? Did you find the image elsewhere online with an earlier date? If so, where is the url? Should be in the deletion rationale, instead of a meaningless link to COM:L. -- Tuválkin 00:08, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Tuvalkin: Olá. The image was uploaded in April 2012 and can be found on various websites with earlier date (march 2012). The "permission" states: "Tinashe Kachingwe has given me permission to use this picture under a free license." Whitout email to OTRS, it is impossible to validate this permission.

Dimithri (talk) 18:28, 23 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Neste caso, a licença será a 1.4 no âmbito do conteúdo restrito.

Dimithri (talk) 18:54, 28 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Érico, Matthisvalerie asked me for help with one of her uploads. It seems File:Jacques Martineau.jpeg was deleted, though she took the picture herself. The rationale was that there were copyright concerns; would you be able to talk us through what the specifics were? Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 15:06, 7 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Richard Nevell (WMUK): Hello! I deleted this file because it looked like a screenshot, a derivated work that is protected by copyright. This is only my opinion and you (or he) can ask for other opinions from administrators in Commons:Undeletion requests/Current requests. If any administrator disagree with my opinion, it will restore the image. Greetings. Érico (talk) 21:30, 9 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
