How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Taivo, I heard about Jawico666 and well, I think he was talking to an administrator who got banned so, I think that should NOT have counted when you reviewed his unblock request. I also sometimes visit his house and when, I check Wikimedia Commons I can't see anything because I would be at his IP address so yeah, just something to consider.ER6876976778 (talk) 01:32, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

My Pictures Deleted

You uploaded two files, both today. You uploaded file:TrumpDancing.gif and DMacks deleted it with reason "derivative work of non-free content", which is correct. Also you uploaded file:FuckBiden.webp and I deleted it with reason "content intended as vandalism". All people must be nice towards each other, the F-word is vandalism. Request for assistance

Please see Commons:Deletion requests/File:La porallée en 1230.jpg. The issue is not the image, it's the user who is leaving a lot of pointy notes to me on deletion nominations. I have been doing what I do for years now, and he's one of the few people who's engaged in any kind of trolling me, but I feel that's what is going on now. He has had several nasty turns of phrase, I called him on one of them on his talk page very politely. It has not stopped. Also Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Eliah Elie. He seems unaware that people who have been doing this longer recognize patterns on uploads and despite my very best attempts to explain it to him - it appears to make no difference. This is now the time when I ask others for help. He has a filemover. He doesn't seem to understand about administrators and bureaucrats, but he certainly has opinions about how I should do things. I would really appreciate some help - petty bullying takes all the fun out of contributing to the project. I really do a lot of trying to keep images and I do not think my deletions are out of line. There is a lot of backlog now in the No License, No Permission and No Source, and this person seems to feel that after I delete a couple hundred and work on the license and sources a a couple dozen more that I should not nominate one or two to try to save them. I really don't understand his issue, which is why I am thinking it's not really about Commons processes and something else is at work. Or I could be wrong and he just doesn't understand. But I'm asking for help from a couple of other admins because that is what I think is going to fix it - or at least you would see it and know. Thanking you in advance. I looked his/her edits and thought a lot and I am not sure, that this is vandalism. The IP replaced one kind of sorting to another kind of sorting. I am not sure, who is right. Taivo (talk) 13:44, 20 February 2022 (UTC)

The vandalism is in the removal of the car licence number.

The replacement is an almost meaningless description! Perhaps this is a joke?

Seems like the IP is more-less static. Please talk to him/her at first. I assume good faith and do not want to block the IP. (HCC 436Y is the number on vehicle registration plate). Taivo (talk) 08:56, 22 February 2022 (UTC)

Hello. The file I uploaded File:Montage of Afghans.png was nominated for speedy deletion and was approved by you. The reason was because one of the images in this montage was deleted for copyright violation, hence my montage also could no longer exist.

However, I made a good deal of work into creating the montage, and I no longer remember what files I used to create it as I don't have it anymore. I obviously want to re-create the montage (and replacing the deleted image with a new valid one) but I need to know how it looked like. Is there any way this deleted file can still be "seen" by you or an admin, to assist me in making a new montage? That'd be very helpful, thanks. --WR 21:48, 22 February 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Taivo. TBH, isn't a bit early to create this category? A few years ago IIRC many "by century" categories of provinces of Spain were deleted because it was considered there was not enough content to fill them... That could have been a bit extreme, but maybe it's not the time yet for "by year" categories of medium size Spanish cities filled with lonely files (these yearly categories are mostly fine for the 21st century, of course)...
