The current version looks similar to https://www.injast.net/files/2017/11/saipa-quick-grille.jpg and looks like it has not been copied from there, as the images are cropped differently, but is probably from the same source. That site has no metadata but it was used in a blog post there on 3 November, whereas the Commons version was uploaded 2 December with 1 November in metadata. I suspect it isn't the user's own work, but I can't find anything else similar. You deleted an earlier version on request (Commons:Deletion requests/File:Quick Saipa car.jpg), if this was the same or similar image, then if there were any differences (such as in the metadata) this may help determine whether it was copied from somewhere. - Sorry not to answer earlier, but soon I'll nominate all uploads of YenWitch for deletion as copyright violations. Taivo (talk) 22:14, 4 January 2018 (UTC)

- Hello, @Soluvo: . Some crops I accepted totally and some partially. Blurring I did not accept, because this makes photos ugly. But one I can accept. Woman on Helgoland photo is blurred too much. Her clothing is totally black and she is not recognizable by clothing. Please make a new version: blur only her face, not even hat. After blurring face she is not recognizable and I can hide other versions. Taivo (talk) 22:08, 4 January 2018 (UTC)
Undeletion request of Rapido de bouzas CR logo alternativo.svg
[edit]Hi Taivo, I had readed Commons:Deletion requests/File:Rapido de bouzas CR logo alternativo.svg and I don't agree with the decision. The file is based in Rapido de Bouzas logo, but I think that it doesn't surpass COM:TOO. Could you review the deletion? Thanks in advance, --Elisardojm (talk) 00:15, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
- Done. I reviewed my decision and confirm it. This is not a simple logo. Taivo (talk) 09:03, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks anyway. Bye, --Elisardojm (talk) 00:13, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
thank you for your speed in erasing the works and contributions of other users. I would be unable to decide whether a football club or desing from any Baltic country is valid but you can. That's why you're admin and we're not. The football shield you have erased is an adaptation of the design of the city of Narón -> https://gl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nar%C3%B3n#/media/File:Coat_of_Arms_of_Nar%C3%B3n.svg the keys and chains must be the same, they are heraldic symbols of naron city (cidade de naron, is a name of city) --Nemigo galiza 01:26, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
- I understand. The deleted file was not very similar (I mean keys and crown). Taivo (talk) 10:11, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
Question
[edit]I am trying to pass a draft at AfC - the editor added sources for these images, which I think would be considered derivative works - I want to know if the sourcing is ok before I approve the draft and move it to mainspace. They are from a book published in 1971, and one of the photos includes part of a text caption, so it is not very clear cut - I'm still new to image COPYVIOs:
SeraphWiki (talk) 20:01, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
- This is another strange case, where no clear answer exists. US usually demands 120 years from creation or 70 years from author's death. It's unclear whether 120 years from creation has passed, photographer is unknown. The uploader should give more information about origin and first publishing of the photos; if (s)he cannot explain anything, then probably the photos should be deleted. Maybe {{PD-US-no notice}} applies, then the photos can stay in Commons? Anyway, CC-license is wrong, because the photos were published in 1971, when CC-licenses did not exist, and it's not easy to choose correct license – maybe correct license does not exist here. You tagged the photos as missing source – this was right decision. Taivo (talk) 20:16, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
1722 in Belgrade has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

Erika Gasbarro
[edit]Hi there. I think I have not disturbed you at all since last year. I will begin by asking your attention to a smart lady. What do you think about User:Erika Gasbarro and her uploads? Do you think she is making vanity edits (self promotion) or we are vis-a-vis a real beauty contest winner who has come to Commons as a contributor and uploading her pics? Even in the latter case I have my doubts on copyrights. Take care. --E4024 (talk) 12:14, 11 January 2018 (UTC)

[edit]Taivo, when a user claims to have made some art work, like this drawing or painting does it not require OTRS process? Is it enough to declare "I made this"? --E4024 (talk) 16:09, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
- I did not find the image using Google image search in internet with older date. Considering other uploads of the user, I believe own work. It's used on userpages, so in scope too. Taivo (talk) 16:24, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
Hello. I don't think this photograph should have been deleted.
Reason given for deletion: Deleted, for 1944 photos the photographer probably lived until 1948 and PD-old license is wrong. Congo demands 25 years from first publishing, not from creation, and as here is no publishing data, PD-Congo license is wrong too. Taivo (talk) 18:24, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
Congo demands 25 years from creation, and not publishing (Official French text of the copyright law: Art. 65. - Dans le cas d'une œuvre photographique ou d'une œuvre des arts appliqués, les droits mentionnés à l'article 28 sont protégés pendant 25 ans à compter de la réalisation de l'œuvre. English translation: Article 65. In the case of a photographic work or a work of applied art, the rights referred to in Article 28 shall be protected for 25 years as from the making of the work. http://www.wipo.int/wipolex/en/text.jsp?file_id=152625
Therefore, this photograph has been in the public domain since 1969 or 1970.--Lubiesque (talk) 20:57, 17 January 2018 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, Taivo. I just transformed Category:Kurşunlu Mosque to a disam page, because of necessity. What I have in mind is this: Should I remove the word "Category"? In the end, this is "not" a category. If it were a category, it would have a name like "Category:Kurşunlu Mosques" or "Category:Mosques named Kurşunlu" or whatever. I have seen (or even made, maybe :) disam pages with and without the word "Category" at the beginning. Any rules? --E4024 (talk) 13:53, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
- Opening category:Disambiguation, you can see 8881 categories and 1038 pages. Both are possible, but most users create categories. There's no policy about that in Commons, but Commons:Category disambiguation is an essay. Taivo (talk) 16:52, 18 January 2018 (UTC)

- Not done. Nothing in law says, that artwork is free 100 years after creation. See Commons:Copyright tags#Germany. The same applies for USA. Everything published before 1923 is free in USA, but there's no such date in Germany. If the author is known, then 70 years from death is required. Taivo (talk) 08:27, 24 January 2018 (UTC)

Recently you deleted the image based on certain user-space essay.
The File: page (namely, Forestry in Indonesia) could suggest that the image is within COM:SCOPE. Looking at the edit history you can ensure that no legitimate user questioned this image in any way.
Should I attribute the incident to misunderstanding/miscommunication (or other kind of mishap), or to defiance? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 17:02, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
- The image did not illustrate forestry in Indonesia. Unused personal photo. A man standing near big tree and looking into camera. Small size, unused. Out of scope. Taivo (talk) 17:41, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

Correction requests
[edit]Hello, Taivo.
There are mistakes in these maps which have not been undone. Would you correct them?
In both File:Christian States.svg and File:State Religions.svg, El Salvador is wrongly included, which needs to be removed because it doesn't have a state religion. Article 26 of the Constitution of El Salvador does not declare the Catholic Church as a state religion: "The juridical personality of the Catholic Church is recognized. The other churches may obtain recognition of their personality in conformity with the law". Source: http://confinder.richmond.edu/admin/docs/ElSalvador1983English.pdf
In File:Map of state religions.svg, Georgia is wrongly included, which needs to be removed because it doesn't have a state religion. Section 1 of Article 9 of the Constitution of Georgia does not declare the Georgian Orthodox Church as a state religion: "The state shall declare complete freedom of belief and religion, as well as shall recognise the special role of the Apostle Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Georgia in the history of Georgia and its independence from the state." Source: http://www.parliament.ge/files/68_1944_951190_CONSTIT_27_12.06.pdf In the same map, Zambia is also is wrongly included, which needs to be removed because it doesn't have a state religion. The preamble of the Constitution of Zambia declares Zambia as a "Christian nation", but does not declare an official state religion. Source: http://www.parliament.gov.zm/sites/default/files/documents/amendment_act/Constitution%20of%20Zambia%20%20%28Amendment%29%2C%202016-Act%20No.%202_0.pdf
In File:Paises con mayoría cristiana.svg Nakchivan needs to be painted in pink, because it is an exclave of Azerbaijan, and like Azerbaijan as a whole, Nakchivan doesn't have a Christian majority.

IP user
[edit]Hi. I have issues with an apparently Estonia-based IP user, who is combatively POV-pushing a wrong translation to Estonian from English, and appears to be seeking to change the intended meaning of words in the Estonian translation. His/her wrong translation is currently up. He/she would not touch the English-language text, as that action would be promptly reverted.
Soup here.
I cannot trust this user's translations for the following reasons:
- he/she is pushing a bad translation;
- his/her rather lengthy replies show a weaker command of English;
- he/she is an IP editor, which means, that he/she is actively concealing their identity, and avoiding restrictions that would be levied on a normal account.
Given that user's earlier combative conduct in other places, then if I were to change the translation to a correct one, he/she would try to revert this, and possibly cause a revert war. I imagine, that the same user would then step in as an real user/administrator to tip the scales. -Mardus /talk 15:47, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
- You know, equally I could accuse you of being in charge of any IP address or any other registered account that has edit warred in any article. That much about your example of combative conduct and baseless accusations.
- Generally, regardless of your good command of English, you make little sense. What restrictions am I avoidng or what should be restricted? How comes that I'm POV-pushing? Because I care to correct obviosly wrong translations or make them more precise?
- Anyways, third opinion about these translations would be appreciated. 90.191.81.65 16:46, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

- "Küla Hiinas", but "Hiina küla" is also possible. Taivo (talk) 18:07, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
- much Thanks. Artix Kreiger (talk) 17:28, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
Deletion of a user: page

Hello.
Could you add verbalization please, why do you opt too keep File:TangbornVirgilJMarker.jpg? Or was it a mishap? Incnis Mrsi (talk) 09:07, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
- My browser often shows recently-deleted files with blue link, not with red one. After deletion of most files in the request they were all shown with blue link and I did not understood, that one of them was not actually deleted ... Taivo (talk) 11:08, 19 February 2018 (UTC)

Suggestion needed
[edit]Hi, Taivo! You have given me so many good advice that I would like to ask again - what do I do next on this issue? Sealle (talk) 14:51, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
- Done. I answered in user talk:P199. Taivo (talk) 15:28, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
Hi! Please, restore file. What's problems with it?--Dim Grits (talk) 21:11, 25 February 2018 (UTC)

Vatican City or the Vatican City ?
[edit]Hi Taivo. I proposed to cancel this redirect because we had years ago a long discussion about the category names of Vatican City. Thank you for all the work that you do daily on Commons ! Best regards, --DenghiùComm (talk) 11:05, 26 February 2018 (UTC)
- @DenghiùComm: : I actually didn't understand, why "The Vatican City" is better. I read en:Vatican City and it is used mostly without "the" (for first 100 occurrences without "the" there was only 15 "the Vatican City"). There was 54 "of Vatican City" versus 21 "of the Vatican City". My aunt once said, that "the" is used with plural, like Netherlands, Philippines and Solomon Islands, but Vatican is singular. Taivo (talk) 13:16, 26 February 2018 (UTC)
- As you can read in the discussion, I was favoring for the simple form "Vatican City" without "the". Instead then most of the categories were with "the", and the page in en:WP was also like that. So it was finally decided in this way. But in the meantime also the page in en:WP has changed and assumed the simplified form, so now everything is incoherent. Of course we can not change now the names of all the cat again in the simplified form. My concern is that it can be recreate the chaos of before. It is important that for the names of our Vatican categories there is only one form of name. --DenghiùComm (talk) 14:43, 26 February 2018 (UTC)
- @DenghiùComm: If you say, that "the" is better, then I do not want to argue. But why not to have a redirect? Taivo (talk) 19:43, 26 February 2018 (UTC)
- One or two redirect are not important. Important is that it doesn't recreate de chaos of before. Best regards, ant thank you so much for all the work that you do every day. I really appreciate it. --DenghiùComm (talk) 11:19, 27 February 2018 (UTC)

Question about license for file:FailFest and Learning Pattern Hackathon - Berlin 2015.pdf
[edit]Hi Taivo,
it has come to my attention here that this file was deleted by you, on account of Non-free license, or license disallowing commercial use and/or derivative works.
This deck has many images. Could you please tell me which ones are not in accordance with Commons policies? I could remove or replace those, and upload the deck again. It is important to have this resource available, as it consists of training material that we regularly use, and we hope others can use, too.
I look forward to hearing from you! Please feel free to leave a message on my talk page on Meta-Wiki or my talk page here on Commons. Thanks! María (WMF) (talk) 18:54, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
- In case it makes it easier, you can also comment on the slides that have the images I need to remove, here. María (WMF) (talk) 20:00, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
- @MCruz (WMF): only one image in page 8, as you can see in Commons:Deletion requests/File:FailFest and Learning Pattern Hackathon - Berlin 2015.pdf. Taivo (talk) 12:41, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you, @Taivo: . I have removed that picture and re-uploaded the slide deck. María (WMF) (talk) 00:10, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
Hi, Taivo, I have a question. What's my next step after you "kept" File:Bart M Davis.jpg because of you "think the Justice Dept. knows what it's doing"? The fact that it is his state legislature photo from the Idaho state legislature and that fact that the State of Idaho does not release its photos in the public domain is a valid reason as to why it should be deleted; what you think doesn't really matter... it's the law that matters. Donald Trump's "transition portrait" is an example and could not be used here, regardless of whether or not it was on the White House's website, simply because the author didn't release it. This is common sense and now I am going to appeal your decision... whether that be to renominate it for deletion or go a different route. Thanks, Corky 21:33, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
- Done. My previous decision was wrong and I changed that. Thank you for noticing. Taivo (talk) 08:46, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you! We all make mistakes! Corky 15:36, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
Good admin
[edit]Taivo, cheers. I DR'ed File:MoroccanlemonS.jpg due to what I wrote at the DR. It is a file used in several WPs and I would not like to receive anger from anyone. Can you do me a favour and check my DR at an early stage? If I made a mistake let's not keep it there too long. --E4024 (talk) 09:30, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
mynewsdesk permission proof
[edit]I just came across A947's uploads, which contain many files from mynewsdesk.com. I started tagging some of them with the no permission tag. However, I just noticed that on one of them, File:Nuncio.jpg, you seem to have found proof of permission. Where on the website did you find this? --Elisfkc (talk) 19:28, 5 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Elisfkc: , sorry, more than year has passed and I do not remember anymore. The file has at moment simple "Creative Commons" message, but no version is mentioned and some CC-licenses are not free. I do not rule out my error. What should we do? Taivo (talk) 19:36, 5 March 2018 (UTC)
Unjustified image deletion
[edit]On February 18 of this year, you deleted ten photos, all of which I took myself, from Wikimedia Commons. One of them was ; the names of the other nine can be found here. There was no reason for any of these photos to be deleted, as they were all my own work. Please restore them. Thanks. Greggens (talk) 22:38, 14 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Greggens: Previously published photos can be in Commons only with OTRS-permission. In addition, Facebook does not allow republishing its content on other sites, including Commons. Such files are eligible for speedy deletion. Nevertheless, if you send OTRS-permission for these files, then they can be restored. Taivo (talk) 08:00, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
- That's good to know, particularly because the only place, besides Commons, that these photos could have been published was on my own Facebook page. Doesn't anybody check for these kinds of things? In fact, I also know that one of the deleted photos was never even on Facebook to begin with, so you might want to be careful what you delete. Also, if I was the one who said that one or more of my own photos were also on Facebook, then I only said that to prove that I was the author of such image files.
Just sent Declaration of consent
[edit]A few minutes ago, [Ticket#: 2018031610000734] was filed in response to my e-mail message giving Wikimedia Commons permission to use the ten files of mine which had previously been deleted (see above topic). Since all those files in question are derived from images attached to my e-mail message, I'll expect the deleted images to be undeleted soon. Thanks. Greggens (talk) 01:31, 16 March 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you very much. As I am not an OTRS-member, I cannot process the ticket myself. There is probably queue, but let's hope, that the ticket is processed during a week. After that the OTRS-member creates an undeletion request – such kind of undeletion requests are satisfied typically the same day. Taivo (talk) 08:34, 16 March 2018 (UTC)
- You're welcome. So, how will I know when the files have been restored? Greggens (talk) 02:44, 17 March 2018 (UTC)
- I do not know exact process. Probably the OTRS-member sends you an e-mail, that the ticket is processed, but I'm not totally sure. If the OTRS-member creates an undeletion request, then this can be seen in COM:UDEL, but if the OTRS-member is an administrator himself, then he undeletes the files without mentioning there. Anyway, links to the restored files, for example file:Sierra Dawn Thomas from Survivor.jpg, will become blue instead red. Taivo (talk) 07:46, 17 March 2018 (UTC)

Hi Taivo. This file appears to be the same as File:Chilonia Union High School arena.jpg, which you deleted earlier today. It just looks like the uploader uloaded it under a different name. Do I need to tag it for speedy deletion or can you just do so based on the information I provided for the other file? -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:14, 16 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Marchjuly: Done. OK, I deleted the file. Indeed, copy of copyvio file. Taivo (talk) 11:20, 16 March 2018 (UTC)

Hi again Taivo. Would you mind check whether ths file is the same as File:Tritansh omrushi trans back.png which you deleted a few days ago. I remember seeing this or at least a similar image to this on Facebook or this official website, but I'm not sure if it's the one you deleted. It is, however, the same uploader as before. -- Marchjuly (talk) 09:50, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
- Practically the same. Both are derivative works of the same photo, but a bit differently processed. I'll delete it and warn the user. Taivo (talk) 15:04, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
requested to not delete the image
[edit]Hi Taivo, The image File:Pauldileo.jpg File:Paul award with nena.jpg File:Paul mexico show.jpg File:Paul Di Leo - Judas Rising Tour.jpg you've requested for deletion but were all taken from Di Leo's facebook and official website. Sources are mentionned and some are directly uploaded by him from his own electronic device, so please understand that there's no copyright violation since pictures with himself were taken with HIS mobile phone by a member of his staff. Kindly don't delete the pictures I have updated for him at his request that would be awesome from you. We thank you for your time and consideration. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Priscilla Felidae (talk • contribs) 11:48, 19 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Priscilla Felidae: , Facebook does not allow republishing its content in other websites, including Commons. For that reason, every file previously published in Facebook needs OTRS-permission from copyright holder (that means from photographer, not from depicted person). Please open COM:OTRS page and look, what kind of e-mail should be sent to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. After receiving the permission the files can be restored. Taivo (talk) 11:56, 19 March 2018 (UTC)
I'm writing to you because you're a sysop on commons. Can you please take care of this report in "Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/Vandalism"? I opened the same request in "Commons:Administrators' noticeboard" (here my last edit) but it's been ignored for so long by sysops that a bot archieved it and the vandal I'd reported has waited for that to restart editing. I'm waiting for your intervention, thank you in advance! 2A01:7C8:AAAE:2B3:49DF:8C78:3C94:3FB 08:39, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
- @2a01:7c8:aaae:2b3:49df:8c78:3c94:3fb: : I was twice pinged, so I must answer. Unfortunately I do not understand Italian language at all and now you insist, that I must take a position about Italian orthography. I feel myself totally incompetent in that matter, that's why I did not take position and did not take any action. I am not convinced, that Arbalete is wrong; I did not even know, that there's both è and é in Italian language. I hoped, that some administrator, who speaks Italian, will take care, for example Steinsplitter. Taivo (talk) 08:59, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you for your kind answer! Well, if no admin intervenes, then I'll ask directly Steinsplitter. Anyway, this isn't in first place a "language" issue, it's about a user (blocked permanently in it.wikipedia and lately anonymising himself as an IP) who made a massive renaming of categories and files that had always had one name (which corresponds to the name used in every single wiki project) without asking anyone and without consensus. About the linguistic issue, you don't have to know Italian language, Wikipedians aren't experts redacting the encyclopedy with their knowledge but volunteers reporting what primary sources report, so you just have to look at what sources say about this issue: the municipal site of Cirié is the Sito istituzionale della Città di Cirié, while the official statute is the Statuto del Comune di Cirié. You just had to ask yourself: what do sources say about this issue? :-)
- 2A01:7C8:AAAE:2B3:49DF:8C78:3C94:3FB 09:11, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
- I read en:Cirié and en:È, I looked even it:Cirié and pms:Siriè. I googled both Cirié and Ciriè. I understand, that Cirié is official name, but Ciriè seems to be not straightforward wrong. I do not want to take action without broader consensus among Italian-speaking admins. Taivo (talk) 09:55, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
- Wikipedia isn't a primary source, this is in the pillars, so you shouldn't use it as a primary source. But if you wanted to check anyway, as you did, you'd find that the name used in the project is always Cirié, as you did. Even more so, Google results aren't authoritative surces, or at least they're less reliable than the official municipal site and statute of Cirié. In Italian "é" is read /e/ and "è" is read /ɛ/, so it isn't a mere orthographical matter but something more important; it's like for French "café": there're 15 millions results for "cafè" but this doesn't make this spelling correct. However, Italian admins have already dealt with this issue in Italian wiki and established that the correct spelling is Cirié, and one of them even had to protect the page from persistent vandalisms by anonymised Arbalete... If you confirm that Steinsplitter would be able to help me with this issue and to stop here Arbalete, I'll go and ask him.
- 2A01:7C8:AAAE:2B3:49DF:8C78:3C94:3FB 12:59, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
- At least Steinsplitter would be in a better position than the rest of us to review your previous debate with Arbalete and any potential discussion at it.wiki. I suggest you ask him directly to moderate in this issue. He can then take the measures he sees fit. De728631 (talk) 14:25, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
- I've just noticed his talk page is protected, I hope there's no problem if I ping him here so that he joins this discussion... Thank you very much De728631! P.S. @Steinsplitter:

DRs of 15 March 2018

The photo is taken of a book, isn´t it enought? Thanks. --Vanbasten 23 (talk) 16:26, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
- No, that's not enough. threshold of originality matters here. In my opinion this is quite simple graph and not protectable with copyright. More complex graphs would be copyrightable. If you do not agree, then you can create a regular deletion request, but the file was ineligible for speedy deletion. Taivo (talk) 16:35, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
Long time no see
[edit]Taivo, it has been a complete week without disturbing you; how rapidly time passes! Is File:Ali Salman in public domain? Sometimes I get confused about these licenses... Thanks in advance for your reply. --E4024 (talk) 07:55, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

En wiki sock farm with lots of uploads
[edit]Hey, I've blocked many socks -- en:Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Chiranjiv l. Makwana and at least a few of them have uploads on Commons. Since you've handled at least one en.wiki sock farm out here, I'm bringing this to you for checking on what needs to be done here. I think some of the uploads have already been deleted. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 13:04, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
- The uploads are mostly either deleted or nominated for deletion. But blocking ... I'm not CU and you aren't too, I see no sockpuppet investigations neither in Commons not in en.wiki. 4 of these users are not registered in Commons. At moment, I do not want to block them.
