Protection

[edit]

Shouldn't this template be protected? --ALE! ¿…? 08:44, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not used a lot, but you could semi-protect it to prevent newbies from accidentally editing this template. Multichill (talk) 17:40, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Email

[edit]

It would be helpful for that template to mention the permissions-commons@wikimedia.org email. I had to go back to the upload screen to find it after uploading the image. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 16:27, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Confusing instructions

[edit]

✓ Done – Taken care of. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 23:31, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This template and its usage needs to be clarified. My discussion is in regards to File:Avril_Lavigne_(Black_Star_Tour)_at_Kartika_Expo.jpg. I tagged it {{OTRS pending}} (exactly as explained at WP:OTRS) and the file was placed in a category called "OTRS pending – no time stamp given" (or similar). Well, I didn't know I was supposed to add a time stamp, the documentation doesn't mention it. But the documentation says to use {{subst:OP}} instead. So I replace the tag with the subst'd template, but now the file is not in any category, even though the documentation says it will be. So, what's the right way to use this template, or does it not matter because of the email system? Still, it would be nice to have some synchronization between Usage and WP:OTRS (and elsewhere the template is mentioned). Since I'd rather have my file in an OTRS-related category, no matter what kind, I will replace the subst with the actual template. Thanks. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 20:10, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I think I get it... the file is categorized, but not visibly so. Confusing, but there you have it. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 20:13, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Month

[edit]

If the template needs the month name to have a certain format (eg January?), we can use {{ucfirst:{{lc:{{{month|}}}}} to force that. It's probably just needed for the category name?

Also, we could probably use parser functions (#iferror on an #expr) to detect if the month parameter is a number, and if it is, convert that to the required month name. That would be more multilingual than requiring the English month name. Rd232 (talk) 09:24, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Faulty cats

[edit]

Any way of avoiding all sorts of faulty cats as here ? --Foroa (talk) 16:37, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know how they're being created. {{MONTHNUMBER}} should be sanitising such inputs. Rd232 (talk) 16:54, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[1] - manually adding the template with wrong parameters (month number instead of month name). Update the OTRS pending template to change month numbers to month names for cats? Month should also become case-insensitive to prevent months like september. Some translated month names should be added too. Days should ignore two-digit entries like 04 and just use 4 for cats.--Denniss (talk) 11:10, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

After looking at it a bit I realised the calculation at the top has some sanitisation of inputs going on, but the categorisation further down was just taking whatever inputs the template was given. It's now run through #time to ensure it meets the required formatting (and where it fails it should throw all errors into the same category, probably Category:OTRS pending as of Error: Invalid time). It's a start. Rd232 (talk) 23:21, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Added conversion of numeric month input to English month name (you'd think #time would do this, but...). Rd232 (talk) 23:35, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Auto no permission tag after 30 days

[edit]

{{Edit requested}} After 30 days the template automatically converts into a no permission tag, using the OTRS pending date for categorization. This should be changed as it adds cats that are usually long deleted. If possible add 30 days or one month to the date or use the current date for npd tags. An even better solution would be to get this done by a daily bot run. --Denniss (talk) 21:13, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

@Rillke, Stefan4, Denniss, Fastily, and Shil88: With the current OTRS backlog and response times of the order of two months, this "auto destruct" setting should be adjusted to at least 60 days. --Dschwen (talk) 18:23, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Dschwen: Just go ahead. -- Rillke(q?) 19:00, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Error in the title of the month

[edit]

{{Edit protected}} An invalid parameter months (value different from the English names of the months), the template generates an error and because of this file does not fall into any of the categories of OTRS and lost. I corrected the error, see Template:OTRS pending/tmp. In the new version of the error in the date file is placed into the category of Category:OTRS pending - No timestamp given. Ask administrators to make changes to the template. --Art-top (talk) 20:29, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If we replace the rows of hashes, id=################}, with Xs, id=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX}, the they would become selectable with double mouse-click (on Windows PCs, at least). This would facilitate copy-paste-select-replace operations. Andy Mabbett (talk) 23:44, 25 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Email "has been sent"?

[edit]

Template says that an email "has been sent" to OTRS. Shouldn't it say, "has been (or will soon be)"? Believe it or not I'm unsure whether I should add the template to some files I recently uploaded because I'm afraid some sort of you-used-the-wrong-template police will descend on me for adding a template which doesn't state the facts correctly.

While we're at it, Commons:OTRS is confusing with respect to use of this template. One place it seems to say {{OTRS pending}}, another seems to say {{subst:OP}} -- what am I really supposed to do? EEng (talk) 01:23, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The latter template just puts the date info along with the former template. So it's probably easier to use that. As far as when to put it, it's not that important. Killiondude (talk) 18:52, 25 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Great that you're telling me that, but for the benefit of millions of other editors the instructions should be clear and unambiguous. Can it just say what to do, period? 108.20.100.196 20:47, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The template itself and the documentation seems fine (with regard to "has been sent"). I'll take a stab at updating Commons:OTRS. I was looking there last week and that page and its related pages were definitely a bit confusing (and I've been here a while!). Killiondude (talk) 23:50, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You Commons guys and gals are worth your weight in gold. Too few of you with too much to do. EEng (talk) 01:18, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to de-clutter things and reword what I could. I also introduced {{OTRS Navigation}}. We'll see if the higher-ups balk. If you see a specific statement that needs amending, let me know. It's late here. :) Killiondude (talk) 06:37, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bad error message

[edit]

The template sometimes generates an error message: WARNING, NO DAILY CATEGORY FOUND, PLEASE MAKE SURE DATE IS CORRECT AND MONTH IS IN ENGLISH OR A NUMBER.

It has just done so both for {{OTRS pending |year=2021 |month=10 |day=20 }} and {{OTRS pending |year=2021 |month=October |day=20 }} .

There are a number of issues:

  1. The template documentarian says "Month of OTRS email; in written form, English, with capital first letter (e.g. June)" - no mention of numerical values
  2. The real issue seems to be that the relevant category had not been created (creating Category:OTRS pending as of 20 October 2021 made the message disappear); this is not mentioned in the error message.
  3. The image is placed into Category:OTRS pending - no daily category existing; that category page has no description or link to advice on how to proceed; just "Please see Commons:OTRS."
  4. The error message should not be typed in all-caps. It should be sentence-cased, and styled in all-caps if necessary (which it is not)

Can these issues be addressed? for No. 2, a red link to the expected category should be provided, with wikicode (e.g. {{Permission pending header|day=20|month=October|year=2021}} ) that can be copied and pasted into the new category page.

Also, shouldn't this template, and the categories, be renamed; changing OTRS to VRT? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:19, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It's an issue with DschwenBot, that creates the categories. It is actually stopped. You've to create the category by hand.
Then, sure, the template will be renamed according to Volunteer Response Team/Naming convention. I was just waiting to have the bot owner active again to do the changes. --Ruthven (msg) 11:31, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

None of the issues described, other than the actual absence of the category, are down to the bot, and we don't need the bot in order to fix any of them. Even if the bot resumes work they should be fixed, in case it fails again. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:11, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Ruthven and Martin Urbanec: Request name changing to Template:Permission pending, in accordance to {{Permission received}} and {{PermissionTicket}}--A1Cafel (talk) 09:41, 29 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I’m trying to figure out which changes should be made, ideally closely together…
  1. rename {{OTRS pending}} to {{Permission pending}}
  2. update {{OP}} to use the new name
  3. rename {{OP}} to {{PP}}
  4. update documentation of both templates
Did I forget anything? The categories which the template adds should also be renamed, but I think that can be done in a separate block of edits. Lucas Werkmeister (talk) 11:53, 5 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Re-tagging as regular edit request (not template protected), since only sysops have the move-subpages right (i.e. if I move it as a template admin, autotranslate breaks). --Lucas Werkmeister (talk) 12:51, 6 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
