MediaWiki talk:Spam-whitelist
Please, add mujweb.cz, see my request and serious reason. --Mirabilis (talk) 11:34, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
- Done — Mike.lifeguard 15:59, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
- Not done. You added only one file, I requested mujweb.cz, not \bmujweb\.cz/www/mhd_jama/galery/2mesta/plzen3\.jpg\b. This change is for nothing in future cases. --Mirabilis (talk) 19:10, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
squidoo.com
[edit]Before I do so I just want to have a second thought from you. I want to add {{published|author=Squidoo|date=|url=http://www. squidoo.com/microwave-magic|title=Microwaved DVD|org=[http://www. squidoo.com/ Squidoo]}} to Burned DVD, microwaved to ensure total elimination of private data..jpg and Microwaved disks-cover fractal-big Δ0048.JPG because they were used on the provided page (just without the space). May you tell me in a few words what you think.
thx --D-Kuru (talk) 21:56, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
Insufficient documentation
[edit]Where can I find why a given URL (cf. Commons:YouTube_files#Chrome) was blocked? Without knowing the reason I can't tell if white listing it locally might be a good idea. –Be..anyone (talk) 00:21, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

Listed buildings in England getting captcha
[edit]{{Edit request}} Because of Wiki Loves Monuments the template {{Listed building England}} is being added to many image description pages. This template creates a link to the photographed building's entry in the official list of architecturally significant protected buildings in England. It is annoying to have to fill in the captcha every time I add this template in the hope of meeting the goals of this large project: to provide an image for every listed building in the country. All the URLs are like https://www.historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1104070 with the number on the end changing depending on the entry. Please whitelist that website! Banknotes.com
[edit]Contains a lot of PD-scan images of banknotes, and I mean a lot. I already found several dozen without watermarks but can't properly attribute them because it's considered "abuse". --Donald Trung (Talk 💬) ("The Chinese Coin Troll" 👿) (Articles 📚) 10:10, 4 January 2018 (UTC)

listenarabic.com
[edit]Add listenarabic.com to the whitelist. It was spammed almost 10 years ago. My impression is that the meta people are generally unhelpful when it comes to taking anything off the list and just redirect any request to local whitelists, so I'm skipping the step of asking meta to unlist it and just went straight here. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 05:21, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
- Is there an example or two of files that need this to be whitelisted, Alexis Jazz? Comments on why something is added is generally required for such things. --Majora (talk) 03:41, 5 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Majora: oh, right, that does make sense. The problem is we can't link to the source for anything with {{Listenarabic}}. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 08:46, 5 October 2018 (UTC)
- So there is a problem here, Alexis Jazz. First listenarabic is not longer a valid site. It is a redirect to YouTube. Second, even if was a valid site, I am concerned about the images being claimed as Creative Commons. Their copyright policy (rejoin link to see: https://web.archive.org/web/20180327090753/http://www.listen arabic.com:80/dmca-policy/) says that listenarabic does not host, save, or cache any material themselves and that they are just an aggregate where people can post things themselves (like YouTube). It does not appear that any of these images were ever marked for review at the time of their upload and the two main uploaders, Rafic.Mufid and Chyah, are now locked so they can't be asked. Then there is the problem of actually proving that this is one big license laundering site. Very few of the images marked with that template are to pages, most of them are direct links to images. I can't find any evidence that any image from there is actually under a CC license but I can find evidence (https://web.archive.org/web/20180317192027/http://www.listen arabic.com:80/arabic-music/muslim-choir-girls-sing-arabic-christmas-carols-along-with-abir-nehme-in-beirut-chants.php) that they take things from other places. I'm quite concerned that these images were never under an appropriate license to begin with. --Majora (talk) 21:54, 5 October 2018 (UTC)
- In my defense, I'm pretty sure the site was still live when I made this request a month ago.. Archive.org seems to be broken atm at least for this site so I can't check, but I'm sure it was working a few months ago.
- Rafic.Mufid = Chyah. Chyah was blocked based on questionable CU-results from fawiki, linking the account to a sock farm with zero behaviour links (trust me, I looked). Chyah went on to register Rafic.Mufid, because, what would you do if you were being accused of running a sock farm you don't have and nobody wants to listen except Incnis Mrsi and Alexis Jazz, neither of which has any power to overrule the decision?
- Anyway, with the site no longer being operational, this edit request is no use. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 22:17, 5 October 2018 (UTC)
- For what it's worth I'm trying to go through the old requests and I'll try to keep on top of them from now on. It appeared that the protected edit request queue was not really being looked at by anyone for quite some time. Sorry about that. --Majora (talk) 22:23, 5 October 2018 (UTC)
- No problem. Thanks for working on the queue. It's appreciated. (and probably underappreciated) - Alexis Jazz ping plz 02:59, 6 October 2018 (UTC)

youtu.be
[edit]{{Edit request}} Old discussions in meta. This is the official YouTube short link and has been included in meta's Spam blacklist,
When I copy a timestamped video url from YouTube player, it offers this link, and Wikimedia rejects it. I had to manually construct a usable new link every time[1][2][3]. Since the site needs and allow to include YouTube links, we should unblock it.
p.s. {{From youtube}} looks fine, but easily forgotten. YFdyh000 (talk) 13:05, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose – If this has been rejected on Meta so many times (
very likely to be declined
according to meta:Talk:Spam blacklist/Recurring requests, emphasis in original), I don’t see why Commons should circumvent this block. Lucas Werkmeister (talk) 21:17, 10 October 2023 (UTC)- The meta rejection stems from the fact that many small wikis may be affected by spam and do not need the external links, but Commons need them. YFdyh000 (talk) 05:48, 11 October 2023 (UTC)
- Not done per Lucas. I don't think we need them; the full URL works fine. —Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 19:20, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
