Thank you Jeff. The photo I tried to upload is a scanned image from a family photo album. I uploaded it first to a private Ancestry.com page and took a screen shot from there. That may explain why it was a *.png. I have since downloaded the image as a *.jpg and then uploaded it to Wikicommons: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:1943_Washington_DC_Sol_Dorfman.jpg. The Wikipedia page still won't allow me to upload it for some reason but I'll try again another time. Perhaps I'll look into an Upload Wizard, though it seems time consuming and intimidating.
