Bot that goes over images with Location template in page but not in SDC yet

and then adds the new location as SDC

(currently for ex Locator-tool only adds the template, not the SDC) thibaultmol (talk) 06:24, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

I have seen SchlurcherBot and BotMultichill do that. --HyperGaruda (talk) 13:05, 4 August 2022 (UTC)

This file, used by Template:Delete, is apparently broken. The preview images of all versions are gone, and when I click on the links for them, I get an error message saying "File not found: /v1/AUTH_mw/wikipedia-commons-local-public.15/1/15/Keep_tidy_ask.svg" (path varies). What happened here? --Rosenzweig τ 12:30, 7 August 2022 (UTC)

Possible bug in the Wikimedia Commons mobile app

Hello everyone. I wanted to ask you about a possible bug in the Wikimedia Commons mobile app.

If I enter the statistics of my profile in the App, I see that I have 89 Quality images; however, I have been including my quality images in this category, and they are 124. I suppose that the App takes the data from another party, not necessarily from that category.

Could someone tell me what the error is? Thanks for your help. Drow male (talk) 16:59, 8 August 2022 (UTC)

The changes, however, don't seem to be affected. De728631 (talk) 13:51, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

I also got these. Yann (talk) 14:24, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
It started a few days ago, see Commons:Forum#Irgend ein Scheiß. --Rosenzweig τ 17:02, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

I did now. De728631 (talk) 21:05, 10 August 2022 (UTC)

What is the proper way to automatically obtain licensing info

I have a list of files and their claimed licences/credits, some linking back to Commons. I want to extract Commons licences, and maybe also thumbnails for comparison.

What is the proper way to obtain machine readable licensing info? I see https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:API with for example https://magnus-toolserver.toolforge.org/commonsapi.php?image=Sa-warthog.jpg&thumbwidth=150&thumbheight=150&versions&meta but can I expect this to work well long-term? Is there some official way to do this? Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 07:45, 14 August 2022 (UTC)

Problem with Commons file caching?

Hi there, this file on Commons:

is not replicating properly to LA Wikisource:

and for a couple of hours is giving the following error:

Our servers are currently under maintenance or experiencing a technical problem. Please <a href="" title="Reload this page" onclick="window.location.reload(false); return false">try again</a> in a few minutes.

What can I do to get this resolved? JimKillock (talk) 12:29, 20 August 2022 (UTC)

@JimKillock: I think that text is part of the local description of the file on Latin Wikisource. If you choose "Edit local description" on wikisource:la:Fasciculus:Marjorie Fay - Carolus Et Maria.pdf you can delete it if you want. --bjh21 (talk) 14:34, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
Ok, so I edited and removed that but the description is not my problem: the issue is that the PDF file on Wiki Commons has actual page images with actual text (‎(1 239 × 1 754 pixels, file size: 15.98 megaocteti, MIME type: application/pdf, 105 pages), while the version on Wikisource does not (‎0 × 0 pixels, file size: 15.98 megaocteti, MIME type: application/pdf, 105 pages).
For some reason, the file did not copy across correctly. The error message appeared when I tried to flush the page, but it did not change the broken file.
I am hoping someone can help me find out how I get this fixed. JimKillock (talk) 16:16, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
May be ? Yann (talk) 16:41, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
Thanks! JimKillock (talk) 16:51, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
I've tried uploading different versions of this file; they seem to be working fine on Commons, but consistently breaking on Wikisource, including this test at en.Wikisource and also at Wikipedia. Frustrating. JimKillock. (talk) 17:47, 20 August 2022 (UTC)

Translation of the "Welcome" message on the Main page

Hello! I've found a thing: if the Wikimedia Commons is opened in its mobile version, it shows a "Welcome, <username>!" message on the top. AFAIK, it is not related to the {{Main Page Template}} template. Does anyone know how and where I could suggest translation of that message?

TWIMC, a translation in Russian would be: "Добро пожаловать, <username>!"

Thanks! — Pacha Tchernof (talk) 17:25, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

It looks like you can’t, it depends on the site language instead of the UI language. (Otherwise you would see the message name using the uselang=qqx trick.) —Tacsipacsi (talk) 23:10, 21 August 2022 (UTC)

Search vs MediaSearch

Hello! I don't know if this need a bug report/software feature on Phabricator but I notice a different behaviour between these two links:

the first one expand the classic search converting "Building" to "&search=Building", the search media just keep "/Building" in URL, without giving any result. --valepert (talk) 09:19, 21 August 2022 (UTC)

Check out the View it! prototype & join us for a demo + discussion on Aug. 31st 16:00GMT

A project has been funded by the Wikimedia Foundation as part of the Structured Data Across Wikimedia Work to create a tool called View it! The tool aims to increase the discoverability of images on Commons, give readers and editors access to more images, and encourage contributors to utilize Commons & structured data. Please visit the Meta page if you are interested in trying out the prototype. We are having a demo and feedback session on August 31st at 16:00 UTC, please join us if you wish!

Please feel free to sign up for updates on the Meta page and please feel free to reach out with any questions. Thanks! JamieF (talk) 16:54, 29 August 2022 (UTC)

@JamieF: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tools/View_it! page is a dead link Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 20:56, 29 August 2022 (UTC)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Tools/View_it! works - wikipedia: prefix in this context turns link into a Wikipedia link Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 20:57, 29 August 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for catching that, I'm fixing the coding - I appreciate you. JamieF (talk) 23:50, 29 August 2022 (UTC)
