Among the 100 or so files uploaded by commons, many of them lack a copyright label (although the existing ones can also be used) and several categories. I want to add them. However, it will be troublesome to manually add them one by one. I hope to use AWB to batch add them (and I will do the same in the future). In addition, I have AWB right on zhwiki. I have AWB experience on the English Wikipedia (my home wiki), and often bounce over to Commons to do minor cleanup. Right now, I'm looking at Category:Vosper Thornycroft. That company changed name or rebranded as "VT Group" some years back and the Wikipedia and Wikidata pages have long reflected that. To get it fixed (brought up to date) on Commons, I'm looking to move the category page and then update the category tags on the 17 member files. While I understand major category moves may be controversial, this renamed company should just be a minor update to bring it in line with the sister projects. I also realize that cat replacement can be done in other tools, but I am already comfortable with AWB and may learn to use it for other non-controversial or consensus-based tasks as I grow my skillset on Commons. @Voidxor: Cat-a-lot is basically made for this exact task. I am saying this to be helpful; while you may be comfortable with AWB, Cat-a-lot might actually be more efficient for this purpose, and requires no special rights. AWB user since 2011, cross AWB helper since 2021 (frWikiquote, Wikidata updater, ...), I need commons permission mostly to deal with broken links in description like insource:"cfa.harvard.edu/iau" which was moved to minorplanetcenter.net/iau when there's a cross request on fr:Wikipédia:Bot/Requêtes. Use of these tools would be a bit challenging. There are at least 3198 categories that need to be created; each file in Category:Twemoji v12 (this one is the most complete collection) would belong to an individual a category, and all files in this, this, this, and a few others would need to be added to these categories. That is many thousands of actions, and due to the nature and the naming of these files automating this can be relatively straightforward (filename dictates category). However, this is pretty much the only task I need to have automated at this stage, if someone else can do it for me I'm happy too. Milliped (talk) 14:45, 1 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
