I would like to fix some stuff on my photo uploads (updating my username, changing licenses, adding a user template). I'm sure I'll find other uses for AWB in the future. Thank you. Samuel Wiki (talk) 15:05, 20 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

i want to add categories to images Thank you. Omar Ghrida (talk) 16:41, 29 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Non admin comment @Omar Ghrida: You can do this with HotCat. You don't need AWB to add categories to images. Pkbwcgs (talk) 17:22, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I already have AWB access on English Wikipedia and Simple English Wiktionary. I would like to assist in cleaning up grammar, spelling and formatting and I do have an established account on Commons. Thank you. Pkbwcgs (talk) 16:55, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I would be prepared to grant access as long as you limit yourself to a small number of edits using AWB - perhaps 250 a week, for the first month, and if all is well following review at the end of the first month (and no complaints etc) I would allow you to continue 'unlimited' so to speak, as long as you comply with the bot policy etc. Nick (talk) 17:13, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Nick: I will limit myself to 250 edits for now and for the first month and I will comply with the bot policy. Pkbwcgs (talk) 17:19, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done as per my previous comment. Will review in a month. Nick (talk) 19:11, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to request AutoWikiBrowser Bot rights. I understand that this is given to users only in exceptional cases. For me, the only reason is the following: I am very annoyed by the mandatory add placement in the edit summaries that can be deactivated with Bot rights. I almost exclusively use AWB to perform easy fixes from the Commons:Bots/Work requests‎ or changes that fall in the ballpark of the edits from my SchlurcherBot, but are not trivial or potentially controversial and thus should appear on the watchpages of users. A recent example beeing the following: [1]. Thank you. Schlurcher (talk) 06:47, 13 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Not done @Schlurcher: you need a botflag for this. (And your bot already has AWB-access) You can request one at Commons:Bots/Requests. A crat will decide if they grant you the botflag or not. Natuur12 (talk) 13:57, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Natuur12: I think you misunderstood my request. I'm not requesting a bot flag. To elaborate: I have been and plan to be active at Commons:Bots/Work requests‎. Depending on the individual task, I consider it benefitial if the changes are hidden in the recent changes (and thus simply carry them out with my bot account) or I consider it beneficial if they appear there (and thus carry them out with my main account). Thus having access to the AutoWikiBrowser bot functionality in both accounts would make it easier for me (as I can use the GUI of the AWB) as well es less annoying (as I can deactivate the mandatrory add placement). I'm only requesting to be granted with the bot functionality in AWB not with a bot flag. Please let me know, if you have any concerns. --Schlurcher (talk) 05:24, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I see what you mean now. Though, I don't believe that it is a good idea to do edits that need patrolling automated. Perhaps @Zhuyifei1999: can have a second look at this request? He's far more skilled with bots than I am. Natuur12 (talk) 18:01, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This is exactly the reason I hate AWB... you have to check every single edit, even if you know what you are doing. When working with files or categorization, one can have other methods with complete automation, like VFC or Cat-a-lot. Therefore, I wouldn't object granting that right to someone who knows what they are doing. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 22:28, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Zhuyifei1999 for confirming that it is indeed beneficial to have access to the bot tools in AWB, if you know what you are doing. Regarding myself, I have roughly 3 years of active experience with AWB and have done roughly 1 Million AWB Edits with my Bot, before I switched to the pywiki framework. I thus consider myself as knowing what I am doing. Frankly stating, in my case, I consider the chance of making mistakes higher with tools like VFC or Cat-a-log (which I have rarely used so far) than with AWB. --Schlurcher (talk) 06:21, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I was hoping to give it to me and my alt User:Artix Kreiger 2. I mean to use it for Category:November 9, 2017 release of John F. Kennedy assassination documents, where I am hoping to change by removing the "Public Domain by US Government" in the "Permission" since all are already {{PD-USGov}}. Thank you.  Support You are a trusted user. You have almost 400,000 edits and I just checked your bot's contributions and I think AWB will be easier and preferable for your bot. Thanks. Pkbwcgs (talk) 12:30, 17 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to request AWB permission to help simplify the task at cleaning up files transferred from other Wikipedias in small batches. Thank you.  samee  chat  09:45, 17 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I do a lot of maintenance work such as inserting machine-readable templates, creator templates, infoboxes, category checking and similar. In the meantime I use VisualFileChange, regular expressions and complex cirrus search inquiries. I am constantly developing towards semi-automated mass editing and could really use every available tool to achieve such tasks. Thank you. Zaccarias (talk) 16:47, 2 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am a big dumb idiot, and accidentally uploaded all the photos in Category:FC Cincinnati vs. Louisville City FC, 2018-04-07 with a description saying it was Orlando City B playing instead of Louisville City FC, so the first thing I'll use AWB for is fixing that. More broadly, I will use AWB for making tedious/large-scale cleanup and maintenance changes. I am already somewhat experienced with AWB having recently started using it on English Wikipedia. Requesting AWB access to make non-controversial fixes to common typos. Thank you. Firsfron (talk) 14:40, 25 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Jeff,
I do see several thousand fixable errors I'd be able to make. I wouldn't call them rare. My edit history on Commons shows the types of fixes I'd make. Firsfron (talk) 15:55, 25 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Firsfron: Like Jeff G., I have no doubts about your competence or trustworthiness. That said, I am slightly concerned because your application here marked your fifth edit in six years. You've also only edited during a handful of months at your home wiki since 2011, having just this week returned from a year-long total hiatus. Before approving you for AWB, I'd really like some reassurance that you now have the time/inclination to maintain some basic level of activity here. We don't need thousands of edits per month, but it's also not ideal to have AWB-approved accounts sitting unused for half-decade intervals. Sincerely, –Juliancolton | Talk 15:01, 26 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Julian, thanks for your response. I don't normally edit much on Commons (most of my edits being simple typo fixes), but the typos here are resulting in false positives on en.Wiki, and as those pages show up as "Wikipedia" pages on Wikipedia searches for misspelled content (see for example File:Bar_Chart_of_Citizenship_in_Cuyahoga_County,_OH_(2015).svg), I'd like to go ahead and get those typos fixed here so they don't show up on English Wikipedia. :) Near as I can tell, there are over 3,000 such typos on Commons, so semi-automated fixes would be easier than manual (which is how I've done them in the past); you can see from my edit history that I have a long history of fixing such typos on Commons. My recent inactivity was due to completing my Master's degree, which is now finalized, so I anticipate having time available for Wiki activity once more, and have been spending time on both Wikipedia and Commons fixing small issues. If I don't have access to AWB on Commons, those fixes will take much, much more time to make. Firsfron (talk) 16:37, 26 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done – Alright, I'm satisfied. Thank you for the quick response, and for your efforts to fix typos that have cross-wiki impacts – and congrats on completing your degree! –Juliancolton | Talk 16:53, 26 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
