Is there anyone who could at least stabilize the videos above, and if you see any other useful improvements, feel free to do your best. If you would rather work from the original .MOV files, you can download them from the links under each file above. --TommyG (talk) 13:03, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Created by @CalendulaAsteraceae: .
- Everything after 1:55:58 should be clipped out (content after "END / SHERLOCK HOLMES Detective Drama"
- The content before the title card at 1:40 should all be clipped out (this and number 1 are not only unoriginal to the film, but are modern 2014 additions and likely copyright infringement due to the length of what is written)
- The audio needs to be stripped.
- The orange taint should be removed.
Thanks. PseudoSkull (talk) 19:17, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
- @PseudoSkull: Thank you for posting this! However, is there a reason to remove the orange tint? Some scenes are blue (I think it's an indoor/outdoor split), and according to the informational notes at 0:01:01 in the current video, this was part of the original work. —CalendulaAsteraceae (talk | contribs) 02:49, 30 October 2021 (UTC)
- @CalendulaAsteraceae: Perhaps my memory is really serving me poorly, but I don't remember adding the bit about the orange taint. I'll have to check the history later to see if someone else added that to my comment after the fact. If so I'd inform that user that it's inappropriate to edit the comments of others on a discussion page. It doesn't seem like something I would say, as I think I'd agree with you that the orange taint should stay. But I'll check when I get a chance to get on the laptop again to see if it's a later addition, or if it's a regrettable lack of remembrance on my part. PseudoSkull (talk) 16:03, 30 October 2021 (UTC)
- I just checked, the comment was as I thought not added by me. It was added by User:Yann. PseudoSkull (talk) 16:30, 30 October 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, I added that. This is a black and white movie, so the colors were added later. Regards, Yann (talk) 21:35, 30 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Yann: At least in the French distribution, if not the U.S. one, the film was shown with the colors, so I don't see how putting the colors in the digitized version is any more of a problem than developing the film from the negatives, or presenting it as a film instead of a series of still images. —CalendulaAsteraceae (talk | contribs) 02:51, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
- OK, but then make a separate B&W version. The article says that US distribution were usually B&W. And personally, I found the colors hughly. BTW, very interesting article. Thanks, Yann (talk) 09:37, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
- There is probably a misunderstanding here. The film is not colorized but tinted, which was at that time a frequent process to distinguish day scenes from night scenes. And there is no other surviving copy to compare this one to. I will take care of cutting the beginning and the end and of removing the soundtrack which is infringing a copyright. — Racconish 💬 13:32, 31 October 2021 (UTC)

- I'd like to add a note that this sort of color tinting changes the underlying values of the greyscale frames: simply running it through a B&W filter will produce a result which is different from the film before the grading was added. It is possible to tweak it back to something very similar to the original, but without an original to compare it to, that's an exercise in futility. Also, the process removes information, so it would be impossible to get a completely accurate result, in any case. Any new file made by removing the tint should not be presented as being the same as the B&W version, but as something similar to what the B&W version would have been. MjolnirPants (talk) 16:43, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
- Again, the original version is tinted. — Racconish 💬 17:30, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, my point was that there's no way to turn this into a hypothetical pre-tint version. MjolnirPants (talk) 23:38, 5 November 2021 (UTC)

- Victorgrigas dug up this video (thank you so much!) and I would like to use it in a number of articles. Can you separate the two pieces into two videos? Please feel free to add a half-second of silence at the beginning and at the end as you see fit. In case you are wondering: Yes, the first four bars of the first piece (pizzicato strings before the start of the celesta solo) were unfortunately cut out of the recording that was posted on YouTube.
