[edit]Characters are subject to Star Wars copyright. Those put on display are not homemade costumes, that might be exempt from copyright. Those on display in the United States (Anaheim) are not subject to Freedom of Panorama. Those on temporarily on display, whether outside a museum or in a shopping mall in the UK, in a movie theatre in Austrlia, or in an airport in Singapore are also not subject to Freedom of Panorama. I imagine most (if not all) of the rest of the images in the category are also subject to copyright too, but I'll leave them for others to nominate.

- See: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Copyright_rules_by_subject_matter#Costumes_and_cosplay FunkMonk (talk) 16:02, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
- I'm aware of that, which is why I tried not to tag any cosplay homemade costumes. (Forgive me if I did so accidentally). Most (all?) of these images are not people wearing costumes but effectively statues of characters on display. In these cases, it seems the people that made the "costumes" (in most cases, I think these are produced in association with the star wars franchise) are likely not the people granting the commons license. - Themightyquill (talk) 18:35, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
- Do you also consider the TIE fighter exhibit to be copyrighted? And do you have an official link to this Star Wars copyright? Wolcott (talk) 08:10, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Wolcott: Which TIE fighter exhibit? There's no reason to think that any notable features of Star Wars films would be in the public domain. You can't make and sell star wars toys or posters or clothing without the permission of the copyright holder. This is no different. - Themightyquill (talk) 18:24, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- Then how do you explain other images which have been around for some time now yet were never deleted? Not Star Wars but surely there's no difference.

Deleted: Some of the comments above are off base. Costumes per se are not subject to copyright if they do not include a mask. Case law has made it impossible to claim US copyright on anything that is "clothing" because it is ultilitarian -- exceptions are things like photographs screened onto a tee shirt, but the costume itself has no copyright. With that understood, however, costumed manequins do have a copyright as sculpture. Many of these fall into that category. Also, masks have a copyright, and all of these figures are masked. . [edit]Each of these images includes at least one masked figure. If they are mannequins, then the whole figure is copyrighted as sculpture. If they are humans, then only the masks have copyrights as the rest of the costume is utilitarian. In either case, however, we cannot keep them on Commons without licenses from all of the creators.
