Obviously not own works. The artists, dates, and sources need to be fixed. User blocked for repeatedly uploading files without proper license and information.

exactly. i wonder why new uploaders do not want to interact, after receiving a wall of deletion notifications? i am suggesting a radical change in practice, would have better results. (and yes the initial attempt here was better than average) i guess images of contemporary art are a dime a dozen, so much so that WMCH has to grant money to do it. but failing that, tagging rather than deletion is better. low risk items in the orphan zone, could be researched and license improved, but editors cannot do that if deleted. it is doubt built on ignorance, rather than curation based investigation. an alternative would be: "let me show you pattypan with artwork template; please email the release you say you have." i do not see the urgency in blocking uploads of orphan american works, that have low risk. these are not picasso. and it is less than a hundred. you realize that getting a scan of orphans is hard, and the gallery may be the only opportunity before it goes into a private collection for a generation. http://www.tfaoi.com/aa/10aa/10aa40.htm has some dates for Edgar Alwin Payne, but I don't know if it's complete. For paintings I do assume the year of creation is also the year of publication, that's reasonable I hope? Otherwise this is basically impossible. - Alexis Jazz 05:22, 12 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. In addition, these files are poorly named. Those which are kept should be renamed.

Yann: I tried the creator template but it didn't work initially. Now it does. I don't know how to "activate" creator templates. I see you created Creator:Edgar Alwin Payne so next time I'll try it myself. I was never able to find these because I thought they would be in template namespace.
I know a US license is needed for them to be kept. The 70pma is not required for Commons for US authors, however it is relevant for people in 70pma countries who wish to use the work. - Alexis Jazz 18:12, 12 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Two issues. 1) A number of the artists are recently deceased and thus not free unless we have OTRS. 2) File:JohnGambleArt.jpg and File:Dixonpaintings.jpg are claimed as own work but have text overprinting to indicate they were taken from another website. The painting might be free but the photo isn't
