After today identifying +10 uploads as copyvio (see User talk:Pakorock for details) it´s difficult to believe that these remaining files would be own work: IMHO untrusted user uploading a bunch of copyrighted material (small/inconsistent resolutions, missing/inconsistent exif) so these ones (per COM:PRP) can't be believed either. All files related to es:Álora, a Spanish city, uploaded in a row on 21. + 22.06.2012, mostly grabbed from http://www.alora.es or Facebook. Usually, the user cropped the files removing watermarks.

Keep against nom: obviously a different chemical. As the description says, "Malonyl substituent". However, there are a bunch in this style, I think we've had a batch-nom or at least done some individually; can't remember the outcome. I would support finding and handling them together, but on their merits/replaceability in context. - Per Commons:Deletion requests/File:Hidroximalonilo.png, I do support deletion as a horribly unclear representation of what its intended use is. Note that the replacement in context (File:Malonilo-sustituyente.png) is not what you think the structure is based on its name or seeming diagram. es:Policétido#Unidades de iniciación y extensión has more of these that need to be replaced. This[2] indicates the images were only drawn under the direction of Osborn, so not his own work. What to do? Could the lack of copyright notice tag be used instead? FunkMonk (talk) 03:05, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
- This is an important point in scientific work and still a question: Who is the more important actor in owning a drawing, the drawer (the second restoration, dated March 24, 1923, prepared...) or the scientific mind (...under the direction of the writer,...)? But so far it is necessary to delete this picture then delete it. The importance of the picture is to show a scientific error on the way to the truth. (as a scientist, I try to draw all things for myself..) Sincerely --DagdaMor (talk) 09:14, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
- I know of it's importance (I'm currently working on the English Paraceratherium article, good work on the German one, by the way), but that argument doesn't trump copyright. There may be other ways to keep it, for example the license seen here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Parasaurolophus_skulls.jpg FunkMonk (talk) 13:52, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
- I have not so much ideas about working on wikicommons, so far it's possible I would prefer your second variant. All in all and in my opinion it is Osborns recontruction of Baluchitherium, not the reconstruction of xyz, the drawings wouldn't exist without the scientific mind of Osborn behind. Also this one ([3]) is Borissiaks reconstruction of Indricotherium and not from another one. (For your work and for the case you don't know it you can follow the link and search on RRC for the most of articles about Paraceratherium) Sincerely --DagdaMor (talk) 17:22, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

- First, are you sure copyright can only be violated if the person who notifies about it has been working in Commons for years? I must have missed that paragraph in Estonian copyright law, have to read it again. Argumentum ad hominem is just silly. Second, all these pictures show the memorial, they are mostly named after it and if they wouldn't show the memorial they wouldn't even be here. If you try to pretend they have nothing to do with the memorial, you won't convince anyone, you're just lying to yourself. Third, the originality clause might be used here because the memorial is simple in form. But like I have already explained elsewhere, I haven't seen any case where this would have been successfully used in Estonian court in the context of monuments. You can hope it would hold but I wouldn't bet on it; the practical use of the originality clause is still quite unclear in Estonian legal practice and different countries use it in quite different ways.

Jajah. Õige. Kahtlemata. "Simple geometric shapes and/or text"? Not really... Palnatoke (talk) 10:07, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
- I see no reason to delete the logo. I have applied to get the name of the logo changed. If I have made some mistakes with the text or other looked the single. Should we also took the discussion of File:Danske Bank logo.svg?. --Søren1997 (talk // contributions) 10:23, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
- The round bits and the lettering are probably "simple geometric shapes and/or text", but the crowned post horn is clearly not a simple geometric shape. --Palnatoke (talk) 09:08, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
- Delete Originality in Nordic law is mostly about the risk of dual creation: things are not copyrightable if there is a substantial risk that someone else would get approximately the same result. If someone asked you to make a drawing of a post horn, it is very unlikely that it would look like this. There are some minor differences compared to da:Gunnar Biilmann Petersen's post horn image from 1939 (see [4]), but those modifications look like something which could easily be made accidentally by someone else. Therefore, undelete in 2039. --Stefan4 (talk) 21:10, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

- Delete (regarding File:Shimabara O-mon West.JPG) there is no reason to believe the text is free, unless the author licenses so. It was published in 1998 ("平成十年") by 島原地区自治協議会, which appears to be a less-known local private organization (and thus harder to contact to obtain the license). whym (talk) 14:40, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
- Comment: File:Sumiya Shimabara-boad02.JPG - {{PD-text}}, I'd say. File:Sumiya Shimabara-boad01.JPG - probably copyrighted but might merit a separate deletion request. It's published under the name of Kyoto City ("京都市") for the public, and it's plausible for them to give the permission to use, if someone volunteers to contact them. whym (talk) 14:40, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

- The text on File:Sumiya Shimabara-boad01.JPG describes a brief history of 角屋, the historical building in concern. You can see its English translation at the bottom left in the picture. Stereochemical mistakes. There are *2* chiral centers, only one of which is indicated; the "racemic" would be opposite of both, but this diagram suggests only the one marked would switch (that would be diastereomer) or that the other one is ambiguous (but the title compound is not a diastereomeric mixture). Needs to be replaced on wikibooks with something from Category:Methylphenidate before deletion (I can't edit there easily). DMacks (talk) 16:06, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

- Orphaned. DMacks (talk) 15:29, 18 July 2014 (UTC)
- Jim, as an active admin, you are supposed to know the deletion policy that reads as follows: If it is agreed that the image should be deleted after the normal time for discussion at Deletion Requests has passed you will need to replace all instances where the image is used with the superior file. You can find where the image is being used via GlobalUsage. After all replacements have been made an admin will delete the image. --Leyo 20:55, 21 July 2014 (UTC)
- I know the policy, but perhaps we read it differently. When I made the comment above, the image was in use. It would be foolish for me to replace it -- since I am not an expert in chemistry, I should not be the one who finds "something from Category:Methylphenidate". It seems to me that if someone expert in the field requests deletion, that first he should do the replacement -- otherwise he is just wasting other people's time on a DR that cannot happen. . Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 23:10, 21 July 2014 (UTC)
- I disagree: 1. decision, 2. replacement, 3. deletion. The 2nd step is nothing a non-chemist admin needs to do. --Leyo 23:58, 21 July 2014 (UTC)

- No, this is not what the text (that was last changed before both of you joined Commons) says. The decision may be taken without performing the deletion at the same time. --Leyo 22:22, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
- True, but not helpful. It is just silly for a user trained in a technical field to nominate an in-use image for deletion and say that it should be replaced "with something from Category:Methylphenidate before deletion". What are we supposed to do -- guess at which image to use as a replacement? Simply delete the image and not replace it? The only satisfactory way for this to be done is for the user with the knowledge to replace the use before coming here. . Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 10:49, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
- During a discussion, many may participate, including others helping to decide how to proceed and/or help each other in the several steps along the way. Per COM:DR header, "This is for requests which require [...] community discussion prior to eventual deletion." "It's in use" is a strong policy against deletion, but instantly resolvable by other participants in the typical week they run when they become aware of that situation (you'll note I did specifically request help from others). Chemistry in particular seems to have a strong record of handling these sorts of details. It has its own subset of transcluded open DRs specifically to facilitate others who are interested and able to handle them. It seems to work. There are admins as well as "mere editors" who are often active via that route (both for discussion and final administrative tasks), so you're welcome to refrain from handling them (now that you know others will). In May 2013 I applied gaussian blur to the faces of the people in this image, and deleted previous revisions. It was my intent to deal with it by way of DR at the time, but there was more important violations being dealt with at the time.
The image was made available at the US State Department website as part of a series of "Images of Human Trafficking". The photo itself was available here. It had a very minimal blur bar placed over the faces of the two men.
The image had the caption:
Customers/exploiters come from all over the world. Legalized or tolerated prostitution is a magnet for sex trafficking. The U.S. Government considers prostitution to be "inherently demeaning and dehumanizing," and opposes efforts to legalize it. The PROTECT Act makes it illegal for an American to sexually abuse a minor in another country. Perpetrators can receive up to 30 years in jail.

Prostitutes talk to potential customers on the street in Pattaya, Thailand.
Given the site it was on, and what the caption on that site was, the caption was indeed an improvement, but still problematic in the overall scheme of things -- no fault or blame being levelled against the person who made that caption change here on Commons.
This image is problematic for numerous reasons:
- The people on the State Department website are clearly identifiable. Only the gaussian blur applied here on Commons protects their identity in any great way.
- The caption on the State Department talks of child sex tourism. Prostitution in Pattaya (where the photo is taken) is rife, but there is zero evidence to show that these girls are minors.
- The caption also implies that the two men shown in the photograph are "customers/exploiters"
- The caption aside, there is no context at all to this image. For all we know, the photo shows two expats living in Pattaya meeting up with two girlfriends and are then going to a bar for drinks. Or it could be two tourists talking to two girls asking for directions to their hotel.
The image was mentioned in Commons:Deletion requests/File:Prostitution in Raval.JPG where User:Kevin Gorman stated:
The photo you linked is sourced to the state department, and I have significantly more faith in the state department's statements about living people than those of a random person uploading a photo to commons.
Unlike Kevin, I am not able to place this enormous amount of faith in the veracity of the backstory of the actual photograph being brought here for deletion. Firstly, there is the obvious risk of putting your faith in everything the State Department says. But secondly, and more importantly, the issues I raise just above show that COM:IDENT could present obvious and real problems for the people shown here in real life.
Furthermore, the image is in use on projects, such as at en:Critical_response_to_She_Has_a_Name#Social_commentary, where it had the caption:
Critics are divided over the question of how clearly She Has a Namecommunicates the fact that it is primarilymiddle-class, First-World sex tourists(examples pictured) who drive the country's sex industry that is run onsexual slaves.
That article is talking about a play on the sexual exploitation of children. Refer to points 2, 3 and 4 above.
The image was in use at en:Prostitution_of_children#Survival_sex with the caption:
Teenage prostitutes in Southeast Asia
Again refer to points 2 and 4 above.
I have removed this image from usage on all projects due to the issues raised here, but we need to remove this on Commons for what I hope are very clear reasons. russavia (talk) 16:36, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

Derivative work of various images on Wikipedia or Commons. Many images on Wikipedia and Commons are licensed under a licence which requires you to attribute the photographer. Unfortunately, the uploader didn't specify who the photographers are, so this requirement isn't satisfied. Stefan4 (talk) 21:19, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
