English. b) if that world means (as google said) "mirror image", no need to delete it, simply upload, photoshop and upload once again. c) no evidence that in your link is right, error maybe there. Only site of museum where it belongs is the trusted source. --Shakko (talk) 15:34, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

- Keep Please leave the deletion template on the file information page until this request has been closed. As far as I know, there is no language that all Commons users speak, so Shakko's request can't be fulfilled. Users who don't speak English must of course be allowed to contribute, but sometimes it can be a bit complicated if I write a request in one language and get a reply in a different language. --Stefan4 (talk) 21:39, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
- I am the uploader of this file, I am Russian. I can understand English, Spanish, a litte bit Italian. I can't understand German. I believe if somebody wants to delete my file he can do it with a some respect to my brain, 'cos when I try to understand why file is marked to deletion I can mistake translating and answer wrong, using wrong arguments. Also administrators not all speaks German, and they also should do more work thinking and can do mistake. I do a lot here at commons and I believe nobody will glad if I'll write my requests only in Russian. Shakko (talk) 08:53, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

No date of death of author. No reason to believe he is already more than 70 years dead. Date of production ~ 1900 - but this is not sufficient. When did Max Mayer Sperling die? Date is too young to assume author is dead more than 70 years. He could have died 1945. That would be fewer than 70 years ago. Saibo (Δ) 20:42, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

- The name is very unusual. Took me quite a while to get the reference in the database of Jewish cemeteries of Vienna and Lower Austria. The dates of photos (ca. 1898–1912) would fit (taken at his age of ~41 to ~55 years). After searching the net for a couple of hours I think this is the best we can come up with. Another option would be to contact the Publisher (Albumverlag, Photoantiquariat Helfried Seemann, 1010 Wien Seilergasse 19, T/F +43/(0)1 5136491). I leave this to Geiserich77. Servus aus Wien! Alfie↑↓© 14:11, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
- Since the name is not a frequent one and the time matches I think it is okay. Of course it would be best if we get a info from the publisher. However, unless there is new info I would add this to all the pictures and we can close this deletion request. Viele Grüße aus Hessen --Saibo (Δ) 14:38, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

one source image deleted as copyvio, FreeArt license of File:Tango au01.JPG is not compatible with the cc-by-sa-3.0 license of this compilation Denniss (talk) 17:41, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
- Delete Copyvio (incompatible licences & copyvio image). I wish CommonsDelinker wouldn't remove image files in cases like this. It makes it harder to spot copyvios if the gallery breaks. --Stefan4 (talk) 21:56, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
- I am the file's author and I have replaced both images to ones that are compatible with the cc-by-sa-3.0. --Bleff (talk) 19:45, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Licence appears to be wrong. No year given for this Japanese stamp which is presumably in copyright. Philafrenzy (talk) 01:33, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
Although the Warren Commission subpoenaed and published this image, the copyright is still presumably held by Marina Oswald Porter. There's no evidence this photo has ever been released under a free license. Kelly (talk) 01:39, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
- Keep. What you say, yes, but: Indeed the photographer would be the natural copyright holder, but it was widely published by early 1964. Back then per US law a copyright had to be actively asserted and registered on first publication to be valid. So if not {{PD-USGov}}, it would be {{PD-US-no notice}}. A bit convoluted (that it might have been first published without explicit permission of the photographer may be another unpleasantness); Oswald never seems to have applied for any copyright on it, and since it has been in print for decades it is too late to do so now. Per my understanding of US copyright law, no valid copyright so PD per US law. -- Infrogmation (talk) 01:53, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
- Given the possibly disputed nature of the copyright claim, would it be better to treat this image as non-free, but historic? Kelly (talk) 02:02, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
- Who is disputing it? Note that we go by status according to copyright law (which is not always the same as what we think might be the most just or most sensible or most defensive of intellectual property). The image is already tagged as PD-US-no notice, which I think is an accurate indicator for the reason for PD status per US law. From everything I've seen, it is PD and can stay on Commons. -- Infrogmation (talk) 21:55, 27 December 2011 (UTC)
- Who is disputing it, indeed. If the author/creator, who is known, has not disputed after so many years of publication and such widespread publication/re-publication we should avoid creating a dispute when none is even remotely anticipated. Consider the fact that if the legal system subpoenaed this photo for use by the Warren Commission this is the same legal system that seeks to protect the interests of authors/creators, implication being that there is an overriding public policy argument for dissemination. In sum, Keep.--Brian Dell (talk) 20:17, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
Keep, this image was created in the U.S., and was first published in the U.S. before 1964 without a © notice. This makes it ineligible for copyright in the U.S., its country of origin. – Quadell (talk) 13:02, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

The copyright to the text belongs to the sender, not to the recepient. The sender only owns the paper on which the letter was written. Stefan4 (talk) 22:57, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
- Keep The letter is not personal correspondence, it is conveying permission for the Foundation to use two Pulitzer Prize winning images on Wikipedia. As it is correspondence with regard to official duties it's well within the Foundation's right to reproduce the letter. I feel this is an important document for the Foundation as it conveys permission to use two historically important images and bolsters our Fair Use claims on English Wikipedia as well. --Wgfinley (talk) 06:25, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
- Delete - although it is alright to quote the whole text in a discussion about these images and also to show this fax in a DR, that does not mean that one could use this image for any purpose. Uploader's claim to own the copyright is false, the license is void. Just forward this to OTRS and archive it there. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 22:09, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
- Comment: This is an important document. If deleted, it should certainly first be preserved in the OTRS database, as Pieter suggests. It would be best if no decision were made while this discussion is still active. If the closing admin would like, please let me know prior to deletion, and I will upload to the OTRS system. -Pete F (talk) 20:21, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
- comment yes, let's add a legal position of the AP section to the article, Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima. let the public see what some folk's copyright claims are. the letter on letterhead adds to the critical commentary, that the AP claims copyright. for example see [2]; [3]. Slowking4 (talk) 20:36, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
- Delete I don't think this belongs on Commons, for several reasons. First, it is a copyvio, as the copyright to the text belongs to the sender, as noted above. Second, it has no relevance to Commons -- it specifically gives permission for use on WP, not the more general license required for Commons. In fact, although it is not our business here, the license does not satisfy WP:EN's license rules, so the document is actually useless there also. Keeping it at OTRS would be fine, but not here, please. Jim . . . . Jameslwoodward (talk to me) 02:19, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

- Keep NASA image, says NASA on it. No problem here. - The Bushranger (talk) 02:01, 9 January 2012 (UTC)
- Delete: While the Hubble image would indeed be {{PD-Hubble}}, there is also the ground image to consider. It is credited to "E. Persson (Las Campanas Observatory, Chile)/Observatories of the Carnegie Institution of Washington" as a distinct entity, and I see no indication that it would also fall under a free license. The solution would be to crop the Hubble image out; while it would lose the comparitive value, it would still be a signficant historic image. — Huntster (t @ c) 21:42, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
- Comment I think you should do that (crop out the Hubble image) anyway, as a non-comparative historic image. 76.65.128.132 07:50, 11 January 2012 (UTC)

a duplicate of the file below, with slightly different colors. Is the one below shows the official color shade, we should not use this one any longer Antemister (talk) 19:35, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
- Comment 1. not exact duplicate : the colors and the letters ج ج are different. 2. File:Algeria coa (1962).svg is more in use than File:Coat of Arms of Algeria (1962-1971).svg. 3. is there any official colors and if yes wich ones ? Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 23:59, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
- Keep File:Algeria coa (1962).svg shows the ج letters more as they actually occurred on the shield, according to Guide to the Flags of the World by Mauro Talocci, revised and updated by Whitney Smith (ISBN 0-688-01141-1), while File:Coat of Arms of Algeria (1962-1971).svg shows characters from a generic Arabic font, so I really doubt whether File:Coat of Arms of Algeria (1962-1971).svg is more satisfactory in all respects... +other from Category:Ihor Podolchak
Modern painter, admirer of Sacher-Masoch. Filled the Russian and Ukrainian wikies with self-PR. Maybe a few of his works shold be kept at commons, but I believe a hundred is too much. See Category:Ihor Podolchak. Commons is not for publishing own art work. Please keep 5-10 of them. Articles like "list of Podolchak's drawings" in ru wiki are speedy deleted, in Uk-wiki may be still existing at this moment, but also it has no importance. Shakko (talk) 20:12, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
- Do you have any proof confirming that the uploader is the painter, or could it also be a fan of the painter? --Stefan4 (talk) 22:33, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
