- Comment As image depicts a coat of arms (of masonic lodge Sweden), it wouldn't necessarily be a copyvio. Incorrectly licensed, yes. -- Deadstar (msg) 08:13, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
- The image Great_Lodge_of_Sweden.gif is downloaded directly from (and renamed) http://www.frimurarorden.se/eng/images/sfmo_stort_vapen.gif
- They are both the same size (9719 byte), the same dimension (104x120 px) and have the same MD5-hash (841A7544A4032E34889BF2CE882D6966).
- On the original site http://www.frimurarorden.se/eng/index.html a copyright notice states "© 1996-2008 Swedish Order of Freemasons".
- Conclusion: copyright infrightment. Haquino (talk) 19:49, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
- Comment Regarding copyright of Coat of Arms in general, and specificly the Coat of Arms of The Swedish Order of Freemasons: I acknowledge your notice about the fact that it must not "necessarily be a copyvio". However, with reference to the Bern Convention US copyright law applies on Wikimedia domains. American Heraldry Society states that "a specific emblazonment of a coat of arms may be copyrighted". The origin of the work File:Great_Lodge_of_Sweden.gif is Sweden, where there is no legislation indicating that coat of arms are generally in the public domain. The laws referenced in Template:Insignia-Sweden are only about unlawful usage, but do not deal with copyright issues. Hence, the copyright belongs to the original author of the GIF-image "Coat of Arms of the Swedish Order of Freemasons". The GIF-image in itself is an artistic work that according to the copyright notice "© 1996-2008 Swedish Order of Freemasons" was published at the earliest 1996. At a maximum the GIF-image is no older than the GIF image format (1987). The fact that the Grand Lodge of Sweden using this specific coat of arm was founded 250 years ago is irrelevant when it comes to this copyright discussion. -- Haquino (talk) 08:35, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
- Keep PD-Old. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 16:32, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
Kept. Stifle (talk) 11:04, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
Renominated, see also Commons:Deletion requests/File:Great Lodge of Sweden.gif. The previous debate was closed as "kept" but I'd like to point out the specific situation for coats of arms again. Even though the description of a coat of arms is usually considered to be in the public domain, the individual rendering of the elements and the graphic style depends always on the artist and is therefore copyrightable. Individual depictions of coats of arms cannot be out of copyright unless the design itself is overly simple or the image itself is old enough (death of author plus copyright term). This particular file has been used at least since 2009 at this website, and it was rightly pointed out in the previous debate that the exactly matching size suggests that Willermoz.es copied it from there. The style and rendering suggest furthermore that this image is of fairly recent design and not a scan from an out-of-copyright source. It should either be deleted as an copyvio or as having no proof for a free license. De728631 (talk) 22:00, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
- Keep Per the last DR. Fry1989 eh? 01:53, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
- Deleted for the reasons given by the nominator. The 2009 DR appears to have been incorrectly closed based on a misunderstanding of the copyright situation. As the nominator correctly points out, the individual rendering of the elements and the graphic style is copyrightable, even though the underlying blazon is not. --MichaelMaggs (talk) 03:45, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
To whom it may concern: the original source of the GIF-file (referenced and linked to above) is no longer published on the Internet, but a copy may be found under http://www.frimurarorden.se/_images/units/1001.jpg.. -- Haquino (talk) 00:15, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

This image contains huge amounts of what's pretty univerally agreed to be inappropriate manipulation. Perhaps the easiest to direct you to is this: Open this file and File:Nagasakibomb.jpg at full resolution in different browser tabs. Scroll to the lower right hand corner. Flip between the two. You will notice that, among other things, a cloud gains a hole when you flip to this edit. There are much worse problems elsewhere in the image.
This edit is, quite simply, far too sloppy to ever be suitable for Wikipedia. Adam Cuerden (talk) 18:39, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

- No, it's far more than that. No attempt was made to match colour, so the image changes significanty around a former dust speck. Adam Cuerden (talk) 01:19, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

- Delete - Adam is right about the lower right corner phenomena, so I'll trust his judgement about the rest of the picture. —Ed (Talk • Contribs) 19:31, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
- Keep – as an example of how *not* to repair a historical image. It needs a prominent note to that effect on the description page; I wouldn't ever want to see it in a Wikipedia article and wiki editors should be cautioned that it isn't an accurate reproduction of the original image. However there are those who would prefer a "cleaned up" version regardless of these inaccuracies, for non-encyclopedic use. After all, it's not as if the editor painted Mickey Mouse ears on it, these are very localised edits. --mixpix (talk) 21:40, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
- I strongly considered Mickey Mouse ears, but decided against it at the last minute. upstateNYer 00:43, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

- Keep Permission for what? Should be {{PD-Denmark50}}. /Pieter Kuiper (talk) 18:52, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
- It depends, just because the subject is Danish doesn't mean that this picture is covered by Danish law. We need to know where it was created, and if it would be PD in the U.S. too. –Tryphon☂ 12:30, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
- It would seem incredibly unlikely that this image wouldn't be at least {{PD-1996}}, if not {{PD-1923}}, but it's true that the source does not give enough information to prove this. I'd still be inclined to Keep this, if only to avoid copyright paranoia. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 00:19, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Explicit permission by the artist for free license would probably be required because of the large painting. Pieter Kuiper (talk) 19:32, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
Crop to remove some of the painting. As it is composed at the moment, the image could be seen to be as much of the painting as the person. --Simonxag (talk) 01:30, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
- Seems like we also need permission from the author of the picture, as it appears the uploader is a different person. –Tryphon☂ 12:38, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

Keep Like the vast majority of publicity type photos that are provided by their subjects, these images were (possibly) not taken by the subject. I don't see any reason to doubt her ability to release under a free license. --Simonxag (talk) 00:14, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
