The Great Sauk (Sac) Trail predates the Detroit-Chicago Road, which used the same alignment. Later, U.S. 12 in Michigan would replace most of it's length in both Michigan and Indiana. Note: The Sauk Trail is the predecessor of the Lincoln Highway from near New Carlisle, Indiana to near Sauk Village, Illinois.
