Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.pfctdayelise (translate?) 15:46, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
Overwriting of files
[edit]Just to tell you that your bot overwrited 3 files from others users, but kept the original uploading info. If i were you i would upload your files under a diferent name than the files overwrited, as this files are being heavily used. They were:

Better source request for Image:Icon-windows os.svg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Icon-windows os.svg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the help desk or me at my talkpage. Thank you. Fleet Command (talk) 11:05, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

African states between 500 BCE and 1500 CE
[edit]Hi Zymos, your African states between 500 BCE and 1500 CE is fantastic. Great work, but it is better to make a Map for African States between 300-700 AD (Ghana-Kingdom) with phonike/punian invasion and a second part for islamic invasion. The punians have 2 Vasalls the Numidian (western Austuriani and eastern Massylia or arabian Musulani) by the northern coast (Language Kalybish) and Mauri Kings (Berber-Languages Tamazight and Taschelhit=Northern alias Masmuda in high atlas and Southern part-west sahara = Hassaniya is the arabian name) by the atlantic coast. Mauri King was not more a vasall from Rome (after the Fall of Carthago), only Numidia is a vasall of Rome. North Mauri has a bit romanian influence, south Mauri is completly indepent. Ghadamsi is the languages of Garamante Kings. Siwi is the language of Oase Siwa Kingdom. Libu is the greek name for libyens, the egypt name around 13th BC for libya and western nil-delta region is Tehenu, Luwatah it seems a hittitic or luwian or lukkian name, Lehabim and Lubim is the name of bible and in latin Laguatan, the real background is a indigene folk with name Lawata in south of cyrenaica. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 2003:46:D02:C7A:B15C:FFB:ADD1:3834 (talk) 03:11, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
Wiki Atlas of World History has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |
