Prośba
Hej. Newspaper logos has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

SVG translation tool
Hi Yarl,
@Masti: asked me to speak with you about my idea of creating a tool to allow SVG files to be easily translated to different languages by
- Listing all the text strings in an SVG file in Commons,
- Providing text fields to let the user modify the strings, then either
- Updating the file with language strings (preferred), or
- Uploading a new file with a different name
I had previously used Jarry1250's SVG Translate tool but it now gives errors and I don't think he's/she's supporting it anymore. Regardless, I'm thinking of adding additional features to pre-fill the fields and let users quickly see and revert changed fields.
Would you know of a tool that can do this (or part of it)? If not, would you be interested to work on this together?
Thanks, cmglee (talk) 10:34, 22 June 2016 (UTC)
wikiwakacja, licencja
Yarl ✉ 21:23, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

pattypan
Thank you for providing us the excellent uploader pattypan. It is even easier to use for mass upload that VicuñaUploader. The only problem I have is that subdirectories are not searched for photos. --Tilman2007 (talk) 09:30, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Tilman2007: I will release new version in the next fext few days with this option included. You can already download test version 0.3 with some new features included. Yarl ✉ 21:09, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
String index error on Pattypan?
Hi, thank you so much for making Pattypan, I'm excited to use it! I've been trying to prepare a file to upload and I'm getting the error message "String index out of range:0". I noticed I had some zeros instead of blanks in the spreadsheet, and I replaced them with blanks, but I'm still getting the error message. Do you have any ideas about what might be causing it? Thank you. Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 16:53, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
- @Rachel Helps (BYU): Hi, it looks like you removed wikicode from second spreadsheet tab called "Template" (but I'm not sure). If not, can you check pattypan version 0.5? I've just released it, I've added some more error handlers, so I hope message will be more meaningful. Yarl ✉ 23:45, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
- I wasn't sure exactly what went wrong, but I hadn't considered the template, so I made another one (this time leaving out fields that I wasn't planning to fill in) and deleted the other sheet I was working on in the file, which solved the problem. I'm uploading a bunch of files now! :-) Also, I should have realized this sooner, but editing the spreadsheet while Pattypan was using it crashed my graphics driver (I think). Obviously I shouldn't work on the file while Pattypan is using it! Thanks for your help.Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 18:41, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

could you tell me, how much does it took to create initial version of VU in hours? I am trying to find out how much time it takes to do such tools. Thx.--Juandev (talk) 10:13, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

Zdjęcia
Witam.
Yarl ✉️️ 17:19, 26 February 2017 (UTC)
Pattypan
Hi! I am looking into using Pattypan to upload 7000 30 second .ogg sound clips to Commons. Firstly i would like to check if it will deal with this amount of data? Secondly, i'm having trouble with the custom templates. I would like to use the Template:Musical work if possible. Could this be easily added to the default templates? or do i need to format the code in a particular way in order for the spreadsheet to generate properly? Many thanks - This looks like a very promising tool! Jason.nlw (talk) 16:15, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
- @Jason.nlw: 7k should not be a problem, but I'm not 100% sure :). And I can add Musical work template, no problem at all. Are you in rush about that? I need to find some time to add it and release next version of the app. Yarl 💭 19:14, 5 April 2017 (UTC)
- @Yarl: Great, thanks! I am no huge rush. I was planning to start a few test uploads in a couple of weeks depending on how preparations go. I appreciate your help. Best Jason.nlw (talk) 07:44, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
- @Yarl: Hi! I am getting closer to being ready for my upload and wanted to see if you have had a chance to add Template:Musical work to the tool? Do you have an idea of when you might be able to release a new version which includes this template?. Thanks Jason.nlw (talk) 08:01, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Yarl: Also - can the file name (which will be displayed on commons) be different to the filename as specified in the Path? or does it need to be the same?
- @Yarl: Hello again! OK, so i seem to have overcome the template problem by using the Wikimarkup for Template:Musical work to form my spreadsheet, and i can see now that you can choose the file name which will appear on Commons. Everything previews fine, but i Cannot login to Pattypan in order to test the upload. I have tried with this account and with one other. I have also tried using the two factor authentication with no luck. I just get a 'Log In Failed' message every time. Do you have any suggestions? Cheers Jason.nlw (talk) 09:06, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

WLM 2017 and Flickr
Hi Yarl, I hope this finds you well. I work at Flickr and I used to work at the Foundation. I wanted to see if we could do more coordinated efforts around WLM this year and get the Flickr community excited about participating. I saw on the WLM talk page that you had added most of the details, so assumed I should start with you. Can you let me know who are the main organizers of the international competition this year and if I should reach out to anyone? Maybe we could get a video call together or some other kind of meeting?
thanks,
Almonroth (talk) 22:49, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
Flickr Community team
- Hi Almonroth. This is Lily from the international Wiki Loves Monuments team. Yarl mentioned you've pinged us. :) Thanks for that. We would really like to learn more with you about options to increase collaboration between the Flickr community and Wiki Loves Monuments. It's probably best to start with a 30-min meeting. I'll ping you via email to set that up. Thanks again. We are looking forward to work with you. --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 12:00, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
License review
Ankry (talk) 19:01, 4 June 2017 (UTC)
- @Ankry: hej, widzę, że @Masur chyba przemaglował wszystkie pozycje. Nie wiem czemu wiszą jeszcze w kategorii, pewnie kwestia cache. Yarl 💭 14:06, 6 June 2017 (UTC)
- Ręcznie do kategorii wrzucone, to trzeba ręcznie wywalić. W każdym razie Masur zrobił solidny kawał dobrej roboty. Trochę jeszcze zostało, zatem jeśli chcesz go odciążyć, to zapraszam. Ankry (talk) 16:55, 6 June 2017 (UTC)
Wiki Loves Monuments in Poland in 2017

Eight days into Wiki Loves Monuments
Thank you for taking part in Wiki Loves Monuments UK
Photos from this year are already being used on Wikipedia. WLM runs until the end of the month and you can take part as many time as you want - multiple pictures of the same site help get the full picture - so please add more and invite other people to take part. We are within touching distance of 1,000 photos for the UK, let's see if we can reach that landmark today! If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message here or contact me directly at richard.nevell@wikimedia.org.uk. |
Let's make Commons Conference a reality
Hello Yarl,
I'm writing you as one of the WLM organizers. Since a while now, the idea of a dedicated Commons conference has been floating around. But since the last Wikimania concrete steps have been taken to actually make it happen next year. If you're interested in participation or maybe willing to help organize the first ever Commons Conference, I invite you to check out the project page and add your ideas; or just show your support for the idea, by signing up.
Cheers,

An update from Wiki Loves Monuments UK
Thank you for taking part in Wiki Loves Monuments UK
More than 300 people have contributed a total of 4,000 photos to this year's competition and we wanted to say thank you for helping us get this far. The competition runs until the end of September, and you can upload as many images as you want - so feel free to document some more sites. Or why not go through your old images to see if you have any others that could be submitted?
Since you've already submitted some pictures to the competition, you might be interested in the banner mini-contest; to take part you crop your images to a 7:1 and upload a new version. You can find out more about how to do that here. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the competition and share it with others! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 12:24, 22 September 2017 (UTC)} |
Welcome to the Structured Commons focus group!
Hello! Thank you very much for signing up to the community focus group for Structured Commons :-)
- How to organize ourselves?
This focus group is new and experimental, and I welcome your tips and thoughts on how we can organize this in the most convenient and productive way. For now, I have posted a few separate topics on the focus group's talk page. Please add your questions there too! If we all add that page to our watchlist, that's probably a good way to stay up to date with current discussions. Steinsplitter has also initiated a brand new IRC channel specifically for Structured Commons: wikimedia-commons-sd (webchat) which we invite you to join. Please let me know if you have other ideas on how to work together.
- Current updates
- For your agenda: IRC office hour about Structured Commons, Tuesday 21 November at 18:00 UTC in wikimedia-office (webchat).
- A newsletter about Structured Commons is sent out later today. Its frequency will probably increase from now on. You are warmly invited to contribute to next issues — don't hesitate to add updates.
- The documentation and info pages about Structured Data on Commons have received a thorough (and much overdue) update this week, in order to get them ready for all the upcoming work. Obsolete pages were archived. There are undoubtedly still a lot of omissions and bits that are unclear. You can help by editing boldly, and by leaving feedback and tips on the talk pages.
- More things (logo? tools?) to be discussed on the focus group's talk page!
Warmly, your community liaison, SandraF (WMF) (talk)

Hej.
Przykład: black and white photograph on paperboard.
Pozdrawiam. Gytha (talk) 09:42, 8 November 2017 (UTC)
