Canis lupus distribution maps

[edit]

Hello.

Sorry, that I replied late.

When I made the changes, it was mainly about the Iberian wolf (Canis lupus signatus), which is a distinct subpsecies of the Gray wolf (Canis lupus) and was missing in these maps, and the range of the Eurasian wolf (Canis lupus lupus) in Europe and Western Russia. I removed the Egyptian wolf (Canis anthus lupaster), because it is not a subspecies of the Gray wolf (Canis lupus), but a subspecies of the African golden wolf (Canis anthus) which is a separate canid species.

However, if there are mistakes which I overlooked, please edit this map and all the maps about Canis lupus, by making the same changes, so they are in sync. When one change is made in one map, the other maps (including the language versions) require the same change as well, and there are close to three dozen maps showing the original and present distribution of Canis lupus in Category:Canis lupus distribution maps.

I have also created the Spanish, Polish, Norwegian, Russian and Turkish version of File:Original distribution of gray wolf (canis lupus) subspecies-en.png which I created in 2011. You can edit them as well, as long as they are all edited and with the same changes, so they are in sync.

Thank you for the additional sources about the wolves in British Columbia. Should I or you include them in the present range of wolf maps? They should be included in all present wolf range maps.

And can you edit and upload the GIF maps about the gray wolf, because the GIF maps uploaded from my not very up to date computer are of very bad quality and are riddled with dots. Please also look in my upload list, for further possible corrections about the gray wolf files which I uploaded (and many of which would require the same corrections). (P.S. Please don't forget the South Sudan and Montenegro borders in the updates.)

Yours sincerely, Maphobbyist (talk) 20:51, 10 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Maphobbyist, thanks for your comprehensive reply and the good work. I was highlighting the dated IUNC reference so that you are not too concerned if people start making changes. It would be convenient if other editors would provide some sort of reference for their changes, such as a DOI, as this map develops, but we will see how things progress. I am simply using Windows Paint, it is not very sophisticated and leaves some pixels in the wrong shade, but overall it works. I have little to do with WikiCommons and it is an alien landscape for me. Thanks for creating my Talk Page here, I would not have known how. Perhaps if I updated the English-speaking map and ask if you might replicate it across the other languages? Regards, William Harris (talk) 10:39, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
William Harris, thank you for your kind comments and contributions. I will copy your exact latest update in File:Gray Wolf Distribution.gif to the other PNG present wolf distribution files, however can you copy your latest update in File:Gray Wolf Distribution.gif to the GIF files File:Leefgebied wolf (canis lupus).gif, File:Present distribution of gray wolf (canis lupus) subspecies.gif and File:Present distribution of gray wolf subspecies-pl.gif because the GIF maps uploaded from my backward computer are of very bad quality with many dots. Best regards, Maphobbyist (talk) 13:43, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Maphobbyist, I have updated File:Leefgebied wolf (canis lupus).gif as you have advised, however the other two are based on subspecies. I will need to do a bit more research on these before I tackle them. Regards, William Harris (talk) 10:39, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
File:Range of Canis lupus filchneri in China.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
