Manuel Antonio Caro

Greetings! A couple years ago you created the creator template for Creator:Manuel_Antonio_Caro, and I notice you have "Olavarría" after his name. This is causing me some confusion (I recently created the English version of w:Manuel Antonio Caro). So I'm asking, where did the "Olavarría" come from? Thanks. It is the mothers last name. Caro is the son of Victorino Caro y Cárcamo and Asunción de Olavarría y Sierpe. Consequently, in Chile he was named Caro Olavarría. Calles de San Pedro de Atacama

¡Hola!

Veo que, aparentemente, has movido o removido la categoría "Streets of San Pedro de Atacama" y digo "aparentemente", porque, a pesar del aviso, la sigo viendo como subcategoría de "San Pedro de Atacama" y con todas las fotos que yo incorporé (dos mías y el resto de otros). Yo hace poco que empecé con esto y puede que no haya entendido aún bien todo. En cualquier caso ¿no te parece adecuado clasificar lo mucho que hay de San Pedro? Yo traté unas cuantas, pero me parece que hay más por hacer y si tú conoces/quieres al pueblo, creo que podrías seguir creando más subcategorías (en el "cajón de sastre" genérico están mezcladas imágenes del casco urbano con otras de los alrededores, etc.)

Y lo mismo digo con "Travertine textures" ¿Acaso no es una subcategoría pertinente de "Rock textures"? ¿Hay algo de Wiki-sintaxis que se me escapa?

@LBM1948: Hola, son impresionantes tus fotos, muy buenas todas. Recién las he visto, porque actualmente estoy trabajando también en las numerosas fotos de la comuna de San Pedro de Atacama, ordenándolas en categorías, agregando información sobre los lugares y subsanando errores.

No he removido ni movido la categoría "Streets of S.P.d.A.", está todavía. Sin embargo, la he modificado, para que no queda como su propia subcategoría.

Claro, que hace falta asignar una adecuada subcategoria a muchas fotos, que ya se subieron hace tiempo. Pero a veces no se puede hacer nada, por falta de información sobre el lugar y/o el objeto la imagen. Así quedaron muchas en la categoria "S.P.d.A", formando una mezcla, como tu dices. Mi opinión es, que esta imperfección no esta tan mala para preocuparse demasiado. Encuentro, que había sido mejor dejar todas las fotos de "Streets of S.P.d.A." en la categoría "S.P.d.A", aunque el centro de S.P.d.A. merece su propia categoría por la cantidad de fotos disponibles y el previsible aumento de esta.

A tus preguntas asociadas a "Travertine textures" te puedo contestar lo siguiente: Creo, que si se puede tomar esta como subcategoría de "Rock textures". Mi propuesta para mejorarla sería dejarla adicionalmente como subcategoría de "Travertine". Lo que te escapó es, que una categoría no se toma como su propia subcategoria. Y esto he corregido.

Si vas a subir más fotos de San Pedro, dejame saberlo, y con gusto te voy a ayudar categorizarlas y eventualmente agregar informaciones y geotags. Saludos WeHaKa (talk) 20:13, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

Hola @WeHaKa: : Gracias por tu apreciación sobre la calidad de las fotos; la verdad es que tambien las tengo regulares y malas (pero esas no las enseño).

En lo referente a la organización de lo de San Pedro y alrededores, tú verás: es tu territorio. Hay usuarios de diversos tipos: gente como yo que adora la disposición fija en anaqueles de las cosas que quieres localizar (como en los hipermercados), mientras que a otros les encanta perder una mañana rebuscando en un bazar de chinos. Yo dejaría lo de Streets ¡Y crearía varias más! En lo referente a lo de los travertinos, como a cada sitio de este mundo, hay varias maneras de llegar a él. Efectivamente "Travertine textures" puede ser subcategoría de las dos; pero no puede estar en ambas, hay que escoger.

Lamentablemente, no tengo nada más que mostrar de Atacama ni del norte en general después de la de la carretera de Calama: allí tomé el avión para Balmaceda. Sólo hay un par de panorámicas cargadas con anterioridad; una de ellas la titulé "Lagunilla junto a El Tatio" pero ahora veo que es el Bofedal de Putama: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lagunilla_cerca_de_El_Tatio.jpg y otra de las fumarolas del El Tatio: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fumarolas,_El_Tatio.jpg

Geolocation

Concerning this: Could you add the corrected location coordinates, however inexact*, please? The photo’s EXIF metadata does include the location you removed, and, lacking better info, a bot might be tempted to add to the file page the EXIF geolocation in the future. *(You can add |prec=nnnn to {{Location}}, expressed in meters, if you cannot pinpoint the exact location of the photo but can indicate a wider area you are certain about.) -- Tuválkin ✉ ✇ 02:01, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

Hi @Tuvalkin: Thank you for your comment. I opted for removing geocode that was lacking precision of hundreds or even thousands of kilometers. In this cases it would not have made sense to introduce an error value. Nevertheless these images, that show frecuently photographed objects or landscapes, are well geo-categorized and findable. Therefore I did not spent my time in looking for not even aproximate locations. But now, I will make a revision to meet your concerns. Yet I am adding geolocation information to numerous images that do not have any, or I am improving geolocations where they are imprecise. WeHaKa (talk) 13:52, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

• Thanks for your reply. In general, geolocation is most needed for Categories about places (usually in the form of {{Object location}}), while geolocation of photographs (most often {{Camera location}}), while interesting, is less crucial for us. In this case, however, since the photo file itself includes in metadata a wrong geolocation, it is important to have correct values on the file page, instead of merely removing the wrong values (as I routinely do with bad geolocation data from Panoramio or Flickr, as entered by a user but not present in metadata). It should be low priority for your volonteer time to geolocate assorted individual photos, instead geographic categories. -- Tuválkin ✉ ✇ 20:30, 5 March 2018 (UTC)
